Please Help --Gaining Weight--Changing Doctors Again
LarraineM replied to karibensea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am with u girl.............I was banded almost 2 1/2 yrs ago . I ve enjoyed much sucess with looseing 104 lbs but now I ve gained 8lbs of thoes lbs back. Its my fault I am sure I LOVE ICE CREAM and soft foods that go down easy so I ve been eating around my band. I ve also gotten away from weighing my 4 oz a serveings.I ve let myself and my gaurd down and been entirely too easy on myself. We both know this is a marathon NOT a sprint. So I picking myself up I attended my first support grp meeeting for banders last nite . I ve never been much of a support grp person so i never took andvantage of this service that has always been available to me. I t felt good just to verbally tell the grp of my struggles. I ve made an appointment for Monday with my Dr and I ll go tell him" how I lost My mind " and get another fill. I havent had one in about 3 months. Even after all this time I am NOT in control EVER and need to use MY TOOl. So, I invite you to do the same its been eight months for u I read, don't be ashamed just hold your head high you and I are learning everyday and thats ok...................we know what to do.Good luck girl we are both in a good place we know how to take back our lives ! -
Frustrated W/ Lack Of Wt Loss Lately
LarraineM replied to r_martin77's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Try measureing your food at each meal ( 4 oz) I find that counting calories allows you to slip back into eating maybe too much...............sorry about these underlines????????????. My eyeballs decieve me all the time -
1000 Calories, Gym 5 Days A Week..no Weight Loss!
LarraineM replied to Mommyto4's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Are you measureing your food 4 oz each meal total? My entire lap band experience has been ALL about the measurement of what you are eating at each meal. Of course eating healthy high protien to stay satisfied. I kinda think counting calories only may be slowing your weight loss down. If you are not satisfied with 4 oz each meals and lite snacks during the day you need a fill. Good luck -
Anyone Ended Up With Kidney Stones Or Pancreatitis?
LarraineM replied to JillDisney's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Three months after my lap band I ended up in emergency room with extreme pain. I had pancreitis also they said a stone got loose from my bad gall bladder. They had me on nothing my mouth for 2 days before surgery. They had to clear the infection before the gall bladder could be removed. My Lapband surgeon preformed the surgery using the same incision made during lapband. Everything turned out great no other problems. Some times gall bladders go bad with extreme dieting not uncommon with lap banders. -

I hear what u r saying about counting calories but it just dose not compute? Are you measureing or weighing your food intake 4 oz at a time? I ve been banded since 2009 also but I have never had a conversation with my dr about calories he only wants to know how much I am eating at a meal and how long after a meal am I hungry again................. -
There are low sugar alternatives in instant oatmeal, even Quaker has them. Also my fav is to toss raisins and a little more cinnimon in to apple cinnimon oatmeal humm.

I lost my gallbladder 5 months after lapband. My Lapband Dr is a great surgeon I called him in from emergency room. It worked well my dr just used a couple of the same lapband cuts to remove my gallbladder..........a breeze.you're in good hands

I feel your pain, I was banded in 2009 I ve lost 104 but find myself stuck there with my final goal just 20 lbs away. I am finding myself alot of times eating around my band, its just me chooseing soups, too much yogart ,sugar free cool whip and sugar free ice cream. My dr reminds me when I show up with a few extra lbs and he is right. I must focus of eating whole foods primarily protien but still only 4 oz@ each meal. We are only visually fooling ourselves with the notion of eating around the band get us more. Its false it seems like more but actually the full sensation will not last long and then the picking and snacking starts and thus not useing our TOOL correctly. I hope my confession helps you I feel better when I am more honest with myself........................keep it SOLID my new motto

Yes ,of course I hope that having the band will help me live to be 70,80 or 100. At my pre band weight I was literally ensureing my early death.I now have hopes of living healthier than any other time in my life. I am a baby boomer and the prediction is that half of us will live to be a healthy 100

Denied by BCBSI for Lap Band Surgery And Devastated!
LarraineM replied to loretta\ Baconton Georgia's topic in Insurance & Financing
Just take a DEEP breath, and follow all the steps they tell you to. Its not uncommon for them to require 6 months of documented weigthloss attempts. Sometimes I really think they are attempting to wear your resolve, and hope you'll get frustrated and just walk away MAD..................don't give it to them presist -
What a blessing ! Good luck

I am happy with my choice to have the Lap band. I had many health issues primary was back pain associated with weight I was carrying. 104 lbs gone I feel wonderful eliminated pain meds walking 10 miles a week ( never thought that was possiable 2 yrs ago) I d say if u r sick and tired of feeling sick and tired try the lap band

Yes exercise must increase to at least 3 times a week for 30 mins. I dont get a real picture of what you are eating you said you eat less than you use to ? Are you weighing and measureing what you eat.......sticking to 3 or 4 oz as Dr instructs? this is key to sucess our eyeballs tend to decieve us on a regular basis if we don't keep a check on them. Especially true of my pair. Review the basic banding rules and keep reading over and over again until its second nature. Ive was banded almost 2 yrs ago and I review the rules monthly.

Totally Frustrated Newbie Needs Advice
LarraineM commented on ALittleLoopy's blog entry in ALittleLoopy's Blog
You are just a little off track with the "I can still eat whoppers ,donuts and pizza. There is no magic whip that will pop out and hit you when you drift to your old ways...............You have to walk or RUN away from your old habits. I d check back in with dr staff or nutritionist for a consult. MEASURE your food you have to in the beginning 4oz is the norm for a meal to effect loseing. You are a rookie don't be embarrassed and don't think this band will magically keep you from eating the wrong things IT WONT.You are the PART that really makes this new relationship work.............don't give up try try again untill you fully understand what you have to do...........Good luck friend -
Lapbanding is great if you have a full undertanding that it is not a magic pill. Its your tool to freedom from obesity.YOU are the most important factor in its sucess. You must committ to the RULES eating prescribed amounts of food and starting a exercise program that gets you moving in some way shape or form. I too have multiple problems with my spine so I started with just walking a mile in a pool to gain strenght and mobility. Its amazeing what this activity did for me. I ve graduated from the pool now and walk anywhere I want to now at least 10 miles per week. It feels WONDERFUL !.If your searching for a easy way to obesity freedom its not without 99% sustained effort on your part. Good luck with your decision !
