How much is enough??
velvets143 replied to velvets143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone> I figured I wasnt getting enough but I have had THE RULES drilled since my first consult. Now I am so used to it, adding an extra meal is like waiting for the sirens to go off and the banding police to come get me:tongue_smilie: I cannot eat more at a meal, do not want to make myself sick, which BTW i did today:crying: Tried to get in some extra cals and made myself miserably sick Just frustrated that i have apparently hit a wall. I thought after a year I would know what Im doing but i guess everyday is a new challenge- used to struggle to limit my intake, now struggling to increase it. -
I had my banding done in November 2009, down 100 pounds< still have about 30 pounds to goal. I have been working my ass off in the gym, literally! My belly looks gross- all jelly and floppy but the whole idea of the panniculectomy and tummy tuck scares the crap out of me. I would not be able to do it until at least February because off my job and time off. I know I could really use it but it seems like such a risk. Need some encouragement and positive stories- just thinking about the huge incisions and the risk for infection and the pain, I am backing out of even the consultation.

Stupid accident and completely sidetracked
velvets143 commented on velvets143's blog entry in Blog 74081
So my appt was last week- lost only 2 pounds, so pathetic. Been really trying to do as much as i can at the gym. Wednesday I could jump rope in my boxing class and today i could do jumping jacks and jumpin up and down on the step but the sidestep slides I ccaused the pain to go shooting up from my ankle through my knee and to my hip. Not fun. Physical therapy today then Im in pain the rest of the night:-( -
Ok I am a HUGE clutz!! I am always doing something stupid, walking into things, dropping stuff. I am always the one to spill something or knock something over. Well 3 weeks ago, Saturday August 7th to be exact, I went to my interval training class at the gym. The first part of the class is with the step platform. I have been doing these type of classes for YEARS! So what does stupid me do, I jumped up on the step and must have stepped on the edge of the step instead of the middle, turned my ankle sideways and then fell on it. Took me a minute to realize what the hell happened, thought I just twisted my ankle and it'll be okay. Attempted to finish my class but within a few minutes it was a large swollen, bruised , PAINFUL mess. Left the gym and went to the hospital for an x-ray, no fracture thankfully but a bad sprain. They gave me an aircast and crutches, said if its not better to call ortho. I am also stubborn and put it in my head that its not broken, it'll heal on its own. Waited a week and still limping horribly, and in pain, finally went to ortho to find out I tore a ligament. He ordered a new brace and physical therapy. Now its been close to 2 weeks that I havent been in the gym, sitting home, bored, eating garbage I shouldnt be touching. Limped my ass into the gym with the brace on and did the elliptical, figured that was no impact. Has slowly been getting better but i still cant take an impact on that ankle and i have no lateral mobility to it. Now its 3 weeks and im still in this stupid brace, still pushing everyday in the gym to see how much I can do. 3 weeks and i still have a swollen, painful ankle. WHen the hell is this going to get better and how the hell am I going to explain to my surgeon all the crap I ate. So mad at myself so this!!

Lap Band Jounrals are there such a thing?
velvets143 replied to dana67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could not find something I liked so I use a small notebook. It is divided into 3 sections, one I use to track wieght, exercise, and measurments. Another I use for my daily food log and the third is my journal section. It is helpful for me and a lot easier to have everything in one place. Also, its portable so i can track things better than if i was using an online version. good luck -
Hello all> I was banded in November and have been doing ok with my diet. Was being REALLY good with avoiding the heavy carbs like bread, rice, pasta, and cereal but still picking at sweets and sugars in fruits. Down 100 pounds feeling good, then I went on vacation and it all went to hell. I knew I was not going to be sticking to my diet guidelines while on vacation but I planned for it and tried to bring alternatives. I ate the fruit and protein bars I brought plus the other crap that was available on vacation: mashed potatoes, bagel!! ice cream, even pizza etc. SUGAR,carbs and more sugar and carbs. Now i am craving carbs and sweets- in carb withdrawal, trying to be good but I have been fighting it all month and everytime I give in its like starting all over again. Have only lost about 3 pounds this month and I know its because of all the crap I ate. What have you guys found to help handle the carb cravings? I want to get through one entire month without cheating!!

Hi. I have always taken my pills whole since they are so small. If you find you cant tolerate that then crush them. Good luck

The first few times I used the Arc Trainer it KILLED my back and was really awkward. I do feel it works my legs more than the elliptical. I use both- one day I do elliptical, one day the ARC, another I jog on the treadmill.

Just wanted to mention one thing- if you do your own adjustment and your surgeon finds out, do you think he/she would continue to treat you?? Your actions could lead to complications then you expect your doctor to take responsibility for correcting that. Also, would the insurance cover any complications caused by self manipulation?

Check in for Nov. 09 bandsters
velvets143 replied to vlp1968's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all-I was banded Nov 18th> I have been working out about 2 hours a day, mixing weights and cardio. I have my appointment comin up on tuesday and I expect to be right at 100 pounds, I want the 'OFFICIAL' weigh in. I have not had an adjustment as yet and I have noticed my loss has slowed down lately so I have increased my cardio and started tracking my intake again. 30 pounds to goal!! Congrats to all:thumbup: -
So freaking aggravated! I have been doing well the past months. Then the stupid gallbladder issues but i was still losing. Now this month I have been back and forth up and down repeatedly the same 5 F*** pounds. I am in the gym everyday, usually 2 hours a day and I am eating less than I had been previously. If it was something i was doing wrong I could understand not losing. I had one bad month where I only lost 4 pounds and I know I had cheated a lot and been drinking. I have been sticking to the rules throughout the month and now I have my appointment in an hour and I am showing NO LOSS!! NONE! I want to scream and cry:-(
-
I was banded in November. I have been losing pretty steadily 10+ pounds a month. I have been in the gym EVERY day for 1 or 2 hours doing kickboxing, bootcamp, interval training, spin, weight training, and jogging. I had my gallbladder out last month and since then I have not lost 1 single pound!! I got right back in the gym after surgery(surgery was friday, was in gym on sunday). I really cant see any way to increase my exercise so it has to be what im eating right?? So i have been keeping a food log and holy crap I have bben eating a lot and not even realizing it!! Why am I doing this?? Do I need to have an adjustment?? I have never had one and I have always felt full after only a little bit, now not so much I go for my appointment in a little less than 2 weeks< im embarrassed to go and show little to no loss:-(

When I am being good and following the rules, I take in anywhere from 900- 1200 calories a day. I havent added it up over the last 2 weeks when i was being a sloth. I have changed my exercise routine a bit and we'll see if that helps break this horrible stagnation!

Are protein shakes considered a meal?
velvets143 replied to criveraarroyo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually have either a protein shake or bar for breakfast. I am usually on the run at that time so it is easy for me to just grab it and go. Also, I hit the gym so I need something in the morning so I dont pass out. On the weekend I have a bit more time I might have some turkey bacon and eggs. Sparkrecipes.com has a lot of recipes you can adjust> i search under low carb and substitute to keep it low fat as well. Good luck OH BTW- i havent tried them but i just recently saw them advertised- i think its jimmy dean_ has in the freezer section lite breakfast sandwiches and bowls -
OK. So I had my banding done 7 months ago. I have been losing well and never had any adjustment. Now i feel like I am eating more than I should- still not large amounts but more than I have been. How did you know you needed and adjustment?? Is it just based on the scale?? I am down 90 pounds in 7 months so I really have nothing to complain about but I have noticed my losses slowing down.

Frustrated, frustrated,frustrated.
velvets143 replied to mnsmith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am right there with you- banded Nov 18th have been steadily losing 10 - 15 pounds a month- now I have hit the evil plateau. I exercise HARD EVERY day!! The nights I am not working I am in the gym twice a day. Still not getting the stupid scale to budge. I have changed up my routine a little added jogging instead of the elliptical. I also am HONESTLY tracking my intake and noticed ALL of my little cheats, realized I am taking in much more than I realized. Try to not keep eating the same things. Havent had a fill yet and if this continues I guess I will be getting my first one the end of the month- Anyone know if this will help get me past this plateau?? -
I was told about mine after the endoscopy. It was planned with my surgeon to repair it while they were in there.

Exercise frequency
velvets143 replied to susannah's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am in the gym EVERY day! I was really enjoying it< loving the kick butt classes- kickboxing, strength training, interval training, cardio, and boot camp. Occasionally I jumped into a spin class but that wasnt my thing. Now my stupid gym cut ALL the classes and I am left to do the machines on my own> I hate it!! I am really having to push myself to go everyday and I am not getting the same results. I need a new gym!! Getting so frustrated -
What is your goal weight for your height?
velvets143 replied to gingerjane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no set number in mind> I want to look and feel comfortable. I know where I was when i was in great shape and it was a lot more than the ideal range. I think it is more important to stick to the diet and exercise- whatever number i wind up on the scale isnt as important- I'm not where I was. I would love to say i would like to be 150 but i think that is unrealistic and sets me up to feel like I failed. Everyone is doing wonderful- take credit for the work you have put in and enjoy:smile: -
What is everyone eating for breakfast?? I am having a hard time with this. I am often on the run at breakfast time so it has to be something quick or something that i can prepare the day before. I am usually just grabbing a protein bar on my way out the door. Really getting sick of them so i need some suggestions. Thanks

Weird Weight Fluctuation (please read and answer if you have same problem)
velvets143 replied to justinsmami91's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know the feeling!! This drives me crazy!! I am thinking about getting rid of my scale all together- I know all the reasons for the variance but still it is frustrating I have been trying to just weigh in the morning and go with that -
Exercising - How much? How often? What type?
velvets143 replied to breesue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work out EVERY day!! I do a variety of classes: i do kickboxing, boot camp, iron body(strength training), intervals, and spin. I also do 2 days a week of just cardio- either the elliptical or arc trainer. I have always been exercising so my workout are a bit intensive. I make sure I get cardio in to help drop pounds but you also need weight training for strengthening and tone. Pushing yourself is good, do as much as you can and push just a little bit further and it makes a big difference. Congrats and enjoy it. -
Gallbladder shenanigans
velvets143 replied to A-WENZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my stupid gallbladder removed May 14> I had my banding in Nov. was doing well then in Jan I started having sharp pain under my rib on the right side, right next to the port so I went to dr- didnt think anything was going on, pain went away- came back every now and then but nothing I couldnt handle. Until march, PAIN and ridiculous nausea. 2 months of back and forth. Finally got the evil little thing taken out and I feel so much better. Surgery was nothing- went home the same day- 3 little lap sites, no real pain- a little sore. thats it- I was back in the gym on sunday and I have felt so much better -
Congrats to both of you_ i am also just past my 6 months and just hit the 90 pounds down. I just had some gallbladder issues so that helped me get rid of a few pounds. I have had the same feeling- I love being in the gym and I enjoy that I am feeling better but I am a little afraid that I am going to slip and wind up back where I started> i know it seems silly but its always in the back of my mind. Maybe thats not such a bad thing?? Enjoy the ride and congrats to all!

Help! My pants are too big!
velvets143 replied to sunshyne528's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats!! i also have gone through this- i try to buy stuff on clearance or at least on sale as I know it wont fit for more than 2 months. Also, I bought things a size smaller- when I tried stuff on I got the size that was a little tight. I have taken this as part of the whole process and it is a little frustrating in that something that looks good this week may be a little saggy next month. Not to mention the expense- I dont want to keep replacing my wardrobe so I have been getting one or two things here and there.I have to wear uniforms for work so I have to keep buying new uniforms as well. All progress, take it as such and enjoy it.
