3rd Fill - Swollen or Restricted or Too Restricted?
voodoo posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3rd fill on Tuesday (3/9), did the Water test in front of the doc...went down no problem. Did make a gurgling sound when it went through. Nurse says, watch out later for issues because it can sneak up on you...post fill swelling, I guess? Because of my vomit session I had due to eating something naughty a day after the fill (see other post - esp. if you love vomit stories, lol) I'm not able to keep down even 2 sips of Carnation. It felt like I had something stuck right at the back of my throat, just begging to come out. So I obliged...because it hurt, too. Like being stuck but more like constant waves of contractions. I figured, after the first time I threw up, I would be swollen, so go to full liquids. So now when I sip water, it also feels like it sits there...right at the back of my throat. (I know that it isn't, but it's uncomfortable and annoying.) Oh, experts...do chime in. Was I initially too tight, hence the gurgle? Or have I exasperated an already delicate situation and swollen shut (or mostly shut)? Is this what NORMAL restriction feels like? I really hope not because I don't like feeling my food once it's passed the back of my tongue...know what I mean? I AM calling the doc today, but I want to guage what's normal. Thanks! P.S. Lost 5 pounds in 2 days. Can't (too afraid) to take meds. This isn't good. -
3rd Fill - Swollen or Restricted or Too Restricted?

Oh, man! I'm glad you pulled through it. After trying to get 2 sips of water down this morning and it not working, my Doc told me to come in. I wanted to just work it out like you, but I was worried that any more puking would cause some damage (expensive damage). But I am back to normal (post unfill). Doctor told me to do only water, broth, and Jello for 48 hours. Then take it real slow on the mushies. -
Did something very naughty, paid for it BIG time

"Slime in peace!" LOL No kidding! It's the weirdest thing. I feel like an alien from the Siguorney Weaver films. Just dripping and oozing...like some rabid animal. So last night, I'm salivating hard...not quite up to sliming and I stop swallowing it because it's making everything worse. So MY DH brings me an empty Water bottle to spit in... cuz he's thoughtful that way. I'm like, "Dude, I'm good with my bowl here." (I don't actually call him dude) But he insists that "this way is easier" and probably more attractive than spitting into a bowl. Oh, it's great...til I knock it over onto the carpet. (Saliva, saliva everywhere and not a drop to drink.) No, but here's the best part of my mini horror movie... I went to expel the saliva that built up in my tummy...it's painful now. I bend over the toilet and out it comes...PLOPPING into the water...splashing it in my face. So when I learn lessons the HARD way...I ain't kidding around, folks. BAH!! BTW...had an unfil today...everything is super duper. -
3rd Fill - Swollen or Restricted or Too Restricted?

Yes, and the feeling that something was sitting at the back of my throat. I say WAS because as soon as I called the doctor, he was like, "Come in NOW." I got an unfill. ALL Better! -

LOL! It was so surreal for me because people are passing me on the hwy and here's me trying to "play it cool" with a paperbag attached to my face, with me heaving into it. Uh...NOT cool. -

Thank you for that. I'm really nervous about drinking because it starts the extra saliva flowing. At least it did last night... I wasn't sore after throwing up, but I think I'm really swollen. -
Restriction, my friend? You ROCK!
voodoo replied to JoiaRox's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is so exciting! Thank you for sharing because I know that I'm not the only one on the boards who thinks, "When's this thing gonna KICK in?" I'm so surprised you ate bread and didn't get stuck! You said you had a hard time, but for many, bread is a demon. I wish you continued success! -
Welcome! Congrats on having the courage to jump on the LB train! I slept in a recliner a week but my back couldn't take it. When I slept in my bed, it was the body pillow that saved me. It helped me to balance and keep my weight more evenly distributed. Everything you do will be a little more difficult and things that you shouldn't feel, will feel weird... for a short time while you heal. Like when I would roll over or get up, I could feel this "thing" inside my abdomen shifting. I didn't like it. But now it's gone. You will learn to appreciate normalcy real quick! Nice to have another man on the boards. The other men will appareciate it, because they are out numbered! In no time, you'll be on the other side of the fence, answering questions for newbies like yourself.

Help please!! I need advice
voodoo replied to chloe2169's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I've read here, it's pretty painful when slippage happens. I would still hear it from your doctor, but I bet you're all right. Also, for awhile you are gonna feel the LB until it scars into place. It's an odd feeling. -

voodoo replied to voodoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, it's fine...it IS funny! I did laugh when I saw that the bag tipped over. I was like, "Come on! Really?" But now, I think I'm swollen from the experience and I can't get Water down. So after I swallow for a little bit... just regular spit swallowing, my pouch fills and I have to go throw it up because I start sliming bad. Gosh, that was SO dumb of me. It will never happen again. Hopefully the swelling will go down tomorrow. -
Why I'm considering a lawsuit...
voodoo replied to rlynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"After much research and dilberation" is the key here. My point to the OP was that he didn't do any research and then went straight to lawsuit as a solution. He then posted somewhere else that he was just kidding. Come on...did he not see all the commotion here? He could have said it in this thread and NOT let it go ON for FIVE pages! Is this the only thread you have read and decided that we are all a$$holes? If you check a few more threads you will see that everybody here is very generous with their positive reinforcements and knowledge. -
Wraps are great for super hydrating the skin, getting all the dead stuff off...sort of reseting it in that way. You can get Radio Frequency treatments for sagging skin and that will help...but it ain't cheap.

Now that I'm losing weight my poor husband is having nightmares
voodoo posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL! He keeps having dreams that I become this obnoxious, self-centered woman who likes (and gladly allows) strange men to play with my boobs! HAHAHA! Even when I was thin, I was never like this! He knew me back then, too. I keep telling him that this is absurd. This is not who I am and all that. But he's been having dreams like this for a week now. This is a man who has never been insecure. We aren't fighting or anything, but it's so strange that it's starting to really affect him. So now starts the reassuring process... -

Oh, I'm laughing to his face. LOL He smirks and pretends to be upset but he knows it's silly. He also knows that the good out weighs the "bad". -

See, I wasn't gonna say anything, but I'm actually volunteering them. I'm like, "Wanna touch 'em? Are you sure? They are sooo awesome!" I go back and forth between that and offering my autograph. I mean...it's the least I can do, right? :w00t: -

Ah, we are cousins! I was banded on 12-15, having my second fill tomorrow, and I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! I cheated BIG TIME last night during the superbowl. I'm thinking, "I'm banded? Really? Because look at me shoveling this rice krispy treat in my gullet! Oh look! Curly fries!":w00t: Anyway...from what I've read, the first fill doesn't do jack...other than prepare you for the next fill. Don't fret...see you on the other side of our second fill!

Did the film "Shallow Hal" offend anyone?
voodoo posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just saw it recently on TV (for about the 3rd time) and I still laugh at it. Except for the scene where they offer Rosemary a piece of cake and she takes a THIRD of the cake. Okay, yeah, fat people over eat, but come on. Nobody does that! Anyway, I was wondering what others thought of that film. -

Interesting... I looked up "negative effects of depo shot" on Google and the first thing I found was someone complaining about how at the end of her depo (before her next shot) she would get really depressed and gain weight. Here's another quote... "She went on the shot, she was OK while it was still "active", with the exception of gaining of gaining a few pounds. She decided not to get another shot and a few weeks later she was depressed, would barely talk, didn't want to see anybody or talk on the phone like she had before. She complained of hot flashes and heavy perspiration. She cried a lot and couldn't handle any amount of stress. It has taken her nearly a year to get back to her old self again." There may be something to this. Some people are like this ON it and some are like this when they get off of it. -

Could you have PMS? Have you ever suffered from PMDD (a hardcore version of PMS)? It almost sounds like a chemical imbalance now. Either hormonal or a serotonin issue, something. -

Do people still make fun of fat folk to their faces? I know in the UK, even with all their "English reserve," they can be BRUTAL with their insults in public of fat people. I notice that in my neck of the woods, people either stare a little too long, or you're invisible. But no one calls names. I remember when "Shallow Hal" first came out there was something on CNN about how over weight people were outraged by it. But the majority on this thread enjoyed it at some level. Hmmm... -

A shot in the dark here... Could it be that after being hurt by your ex you are feeling helpless? In order to feel powerful again, hurting something weaker than you is a release? I know you don't ACTUALLY want your cat to die, but it may be a way of punishing something to deflect your pain of the loss. Allow me to share something personal... When I was a little girl (about 5) and my parents were fighting, I would poke needles in my doll's eyes. I needed to pass on my pain. Sounds psychotic? Sure. But what is a five year old to do with feelings that overwhelm her and are foreign? I don't act out like that now...I talk. (FYI...I never did this to living things!) It just sounds like you need a strong release. You might be so angry that you want to hear something/someone else suffer more than you are now. I don't think it's abnormal...unless you act on it, of course. Talk, write, meditate. Go get a facial or massage. This will help mucho. To save money, find a student...either a cosmetology school or massage school. Cheap services. I'm sorry you are hurting. It will pass. :sifone: -
What would you do, if this happened to you?
voodoo replied to jenrobbar951's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm... Well, you may have been a little sensitive at the moment (understandably) and read attitude where there was none. However, after mentioning that your mother was dying, attitude or no, she should have complied and moved on instead of harassing you further like you were some dumb ape. I hate when people repeat themselves over and over like I'm stupid. I GOT it...there's a waiting list. I would have addressed it during the phone call...but that's me. You should talk to the doctor about it. Calmly tell him what happened, trying not to interject what you think the receptionist was feeling or thinking... because you don't know that. Tell him how it made you feel, because that's the point. Not HER attitude, but YOUR feelings on the matter. He's educated, he'll get it. He needs to know it made you so upset that you wanted to change doctors. Give him a chance to make it right. If he blows you off, then that whole office might have issues and you may want to find another doc. But don't be afraid to stand up for yourself on this. Good luck. I'm so sorry about your mother. -
Why I'm considering a lawsuit...
voodoo replied to rlynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What I don't get, is that you make it sound like you walked into the doctor's office and said, "I'll have one LAP-BAND®, please." And then they just wheeled you into surgery a few minutes later. I'm self pay and my doctor saw me a couple of times, talked to me about everything. If I said I knew about whatever topic we were on, he would stop and make me tell him what I thought I knew. I nailed it of course, because of this site. Then I was REQUIRED to go to what they called "Teaching Day" where they spent FIVE hours going through A to Z about this Band, my part in it, how my body was going to react. They even had a pastor come in and talk to me for a spiritual portion - how the band will change you emotionally, etc. They were thorough. I did not go into that surgery clueless as to what I was doing to myself. Why wouldn't you do any research before a major surgery? Why would you pay for a surgery you "KNOW" won't work? Why would you come here, see all the success stories (like hundreds!) and assume you'd be the lone "failure"? Were you hoping that it would fail so that you could sue and makes lots of money? Apparently you didn't do much research there either. Did you take the MMPI? I'm thinking this would have shown up. I'm feeling very little sympathy for you right now. Sorry. Stay on the board for a few hours and read about all the physical and mental misery we folks go through to meet our weight loss goals. MOST of us are trudging through the unknown and it can be unpleasant. But like I told my doctor, "Don't worry, I'm not gonna miss pizza. What I miss is size six." (Uh, no. I miss pizza! OMG!) Sounds like you are afraid to be thin. Perhaps it's a foreign place for you and you don't know how to handle it. 1. Read the boards. 2. Get a fill 3. Talk with a therapist about your fears. Fears are powerful. Don't underestimate that.
