That's great, good job!!
Everyone seems to lose weight at a different pace. I think I lost about 20 pounds the first Month or so then dropped back to a pound pound and half a week or less after that. What they don't tell you (at least in my case didn't tell me) is that the pound a week or so is an average and not neccesarily linear. That means one month 2 pounds next month 10, next month 0 next month 6. I finally just stopped weighing myself because it was driving me crazy. Besides they weight me at my baratric clinic and PCP anyway. I think belt size may be a better metric. It is for me anyway. I'm at about the 6 month point and I've lost about 40 pounds and 6 inches around my waist. The weight is good, but comfortably getting into pants and shirts I haven't worn in 5 or 6 years is priceless.
Hi,
No pre-op diet, got banded 11/4/09. Stayed overnight, 1 week liquids, 1 week mushies and finally back to solid food:thumbup:. Pretty much no appetite at all. Lost about 12 pounds so far:thumbup:. First fill scheduled for 11/30/09.
That's the same instructions I had for my surgery November 4th. It varies from surgeon to surgeon. I had 2 days clear liguids post op then full liguids. Then Mushies at 1 week and finally solids at 2 weeks which I just started:thumbup:. It all seems to vary with the surgeon.
Even with my suurgeon, they said they can't always follow that timetable with everyone. It depends on how well they do with the surgery and the diet. They said some folks have to hang out on liquids for a few weeks before moving on to mushies:sad:.
I ended up with 6 incisions . All small with the exeption one about 1 inche long. All glued, no sign of stiches or staples. They didn't put any kind of covering on them either. I had a shower the day after my surgery no problem.:smile2:
Hi,
Had my surgery November 4th. At the hospital I went to, they keep everyone overnight. No complaints, got some good drugs for mild pain :smile2: and I went home the next afternoon ater a barium swallow.
Had some pain for the next few days. Felt pretty much the same as if you did way too many sit-ups at one time. The Surgeon gave me additonal pain medication but I didn't need it.
Slept a lot more than usual for the next 2 days. Could easilty have gone back to work Monday the 9th. But I thought I would take an extra day to get caught up on everything.
Good luck on your recovery.
Nope I don't have to do a preop diet either. :cursing:
When I asked my surgeon he said he doesn't have any problems working around the liver during the surgery unless the patient is over 400 or 450 pounds. Then he has them do the pre-op diet to shrink their liver to give him some working room. I think it varies by surgeon, how overweight you are, possibly even where you are carrying the weight (i.e hips vs. stomach).
He (the surgeon) also said he used to do it for everyone years ago but hasn't for the last hundred or so surgeries he's done. I guess he does 2 or 3 of these a week. So I'm pretty comfortable following his advice.
That being said I'm still doing the Protein Drinks for 2 meals and having a minimum carb meal for the next week before surgery. With the exeption of a final beer and pizza night :cursing:
