Hi All, I just got home from the hospital a few hours ago. I was banded yesterday morning and my surgeon said everything went perfect. I was even able to walk around the block a few minutes ago! She used the smaller of the two bands. Thank the Lord I was able to get rid of the fever I had Tuesday, but now I have a bit of chest congestion I am trying to chase away. Only one problem so far. Anyone know how I can get rid of all this gas? It will not come out no matter what I do. And what sleeping positions do ya'll recommend? I am really uncomfortable sleeping on my back all through the night. Despite a few minor issues, I am happy to be banded and look forward to the future! Thanks, Sarah

Hey everyone, I am scheduled to have Lap Band on September the 20th in Memphis with Dr. Virginia Mcgraff Weaver. Can anyone tell me how much time I am going to need off from school? I am in Nursing school (finished in December, yay!) and cannot return until I no longer have lifting restrictions. Does any think that will be more than two weeks? Oh and the reason I am not waiting till after I graduate is because my Endocrinologist says it would be too dangerous (health wise) for me to wait that long. Also, has anyone heard anything about Dr. Weaver? She works out of St Francis hospital. Thanks, Sarah

Okay I am 2 1/2 wks post op and have not had much wt loss. The wt I have lost has mainly been from the gas. I am eating like a bird, exercising 5x/wk on the elliptical and taking all my Vitamins. I am also really hungry all the time. Is it normal to not loose much in the first few weeks after surgery? And will I start loosing more once I have my fill in a few wks? I guess I am worried that the band is not going to work for me. ~Sarah

Yeah I have been on solids since 4d post op. They do not do the liquid thing for more than 1 day. I can swallow everything fine, even my huge Metformin pills. I was even able to eat 2oz of sirloin last night without any problems. Thanks for all the encouragement. I was just afraid that I had paid 17k for it not to work. ~Sarah

I developed a horrible sore throat this morning and cannot get rid of it. I do not have a fever (yet). Will they cancel my surgery if I am sick???? I am drinking hot fluids and eating cough drops left and right. This is the worst time to be getting sick. I am hoping it is just the weather change here in Memphis. Sarah

Hey guys, I started my liver shrink diet last Wednesday and have not lost a pound. Is that normal?! Mine is a little different. They put me on a Protein Shake for Breakfast, prt bar for lunch, 3oz lean meat, sm baked potato, and sm salad for dinner with 3 servings of fruit and yogurt in between the three meals throughout the day. I am worried it is not working and that I will have complications during surgery or that they might not even be able to do it (surgery is Wed the 20th). Any thoughts or comments from experience with this diet? Thanks, Sarah

I am scheduled for banding on the 20th and just found out that my surgeon has only done 50 bands (mainly does lap bypass). Should I be worried? I am about to leave to see her for the first time in a few minutes. Sarah

Thanks to all that replied. I met with my surgeon today and she made me feel more confident and I feel comfortable having her place the band. Now if I can just get over the anethesia fears and get used to this liver shrink diet! Sarah

My surgery is coming up on the 20th and I need prayer. I am getting nervous and somewhat fearful. I fear that something will go wrong, I fear I won't finish school due to a complication or that it won't work and I will be out thousands of dollars. I was so excited and now all of a sudden fear and doubt are taking over. Please just keep me and my surgery in prayer. Thanks, Sarah

My surgery is in less than four weeks and my surgeon hasn't said a word about stopping. I guess I should give her a call. That is a little scary. Sarah -
Anyone with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome been banded and had success with wt loss? Sarah

That is so great to hear. That is the one of the main reasons my Endocrinologist is wanting me to get banded. I hope that my cysts and infertility are taken out by the band. Sarah

Hey everyone, Has anyone had serious complications or any type of complication that kept them from returning to work or school within 2 to 3 weeks? People that I work and go to school with are telling me about all the horrible things that will go wrong after my surgery but I would rather hear from those that have actually been through it and know. Thanks, Sarah
-
How many had complication that kept them from returning to work after 2-3 wks?

I thought they were referring to GB too but they swear they mean Lap Band. Thanks for your comment. Sarah -

Banded in Memphis and have some questions.

I have heard from several people the same thing you are saying. My surgeon's nurse said only two wks no lifting. I am confused. Anyway, I am starting my internship (my last rotation) on October 13th I believe and my surgery is scheduled for Sept 20. I will either be on the Med-Surg or Cariac Unit at Methodist. Should I just tell my doctor I have to wait till December after I have graduated? Thanks, Sarah -
I am self pay for my band with Dr. Weaver and it is going to be 17,000 but this includes all the preop tests (psych eval, nutritionist) and all post op appointments for 1 yr. Sarah
