I have grown up in a "juicy" family. My Mom had g-bypass and lost about 100 pounds. I also have 2 aunts on my Dad's side that had g-bypass and an aunt on my Mom's side who had lap-band. That is not an excuse for my weight. Out of High School I weighed 125-130 pounds, wore a size 6 and thought I was fat. When I met my husband I started to gain weight very slowly. Then I had a baby and gained about 20 pounds. So the weight I put on after meeting my husband and having a baby was about 30 pounds. Then my husband got orders to go to Korea and I moved back home with my Mom for that year while he was away. That year I gained 20 pounds. Then I quit smoking and gained 40 pounds faster then I knew was possible. Those are not excuses either, just the times in my life when eating well was not a concern. I ate a lot and my portions were not smart. I put on the weight and was determined to loose the weight. I have tried everything from pills to starving to Atkins to throwing up and the list goes on! The most I ever lost from dieting was 20 pounds. But then I gained it just as fast as I lost it. I tried exercising and eating better but then after no results I would get so discouraged and give up. My weight never kept me from doing things I wanted to do except put on a swimsuit, look in the mirror and be happy, feel depressed and I could go on and on. I do not hate myself but I hate the weight. Being on about 5 different medications does not help either. My Dr. asked had Lap-Band ever crossed my mind? Duh? Yeah! So 3 months later here I am. I have a week until my surgery and am excited to start a better way a life! I want to live healthy and long (O.K., and a little thinner). Wish me luck!
