    Fiber Question

I've been banded for 4 months now and the fiber issue came to my mind. My friend had stomach issues and told me that she uses Benefiber powder that clearly dissolves into water. It's not much water either, and so I thought it'd be an easy way to include a daily amount of fiber in addition to regulating my digestive system. After about 4 straight days of taking the fiber 3 times a day (as directed) I found that my stomach felt like it was full of gas. It wasn't painful or embarrassing in anyway, just annoying. It felt that my stomach was just full of air, but that's a common symptom of fiber supplements. Just wanted to keep you in touch with the effects of it. Mixing that stuff with your food is alright if you were to ask me, but it's so much easier put in water. Hopefully you'll not have the gas-filled reaction!
  5. I've been having some trouble recently finding foods that will go down nicely. I eat slowly and in small portions, but certain foods just don't have the right consistency and have trouble going down. Foods that don't go down (for me): scrambled eggs sticky rice (anything sticky in general) bread (duh) pieces of oranges If anyone can help advise me on a list of some more foods so I don't keep running into the same issues that would be great! Soups are awesome (obviously) and so is pieces of cheese. Thanks!
  6. I understand what you're saying. It's hard to transition to "knowing" when I'm full compared to "I'm not hungry". This is the time to really listen to your body and pay attention to what's going on. Obviously your probably more aware then you ever have been, but I'm still learning and I'm 4+ months out of surgery. They told me scrambled eggs during the 2nd/3rd phase of mushy foods, but just an FYI, later on down the road, scrambled eggs (my absolute favorite) are not the easiest to get down. Weird because you think they would, but sticky foods, eggs, bread, and sometimes rice (if it's the sticky kind) are not your friend! I know others might have a different opinion on that, but that's my take on it!
  7. I've done all my research about lap-band, and I've attended the seminar. I'm still in my early stages, this I know. I'm 24 years old with a BMI of 36. The only co-morbidity that I have is sleep apnea but it's not diagnosed through my GP. I'm in such need of this procedure and I'll benefit so greatly from it, but I'm afraid my insurance (BCBS Of NC) will decline me due to not having a BMI of 40> and only 1 co-morbidity. What are the chances that this will happen for me do you think? I attended 6 sessions of a dietitian last year, and it didn't do anything. I actually gained weight after wards. The health related issues is that I've got celiac disease and the sleep apnea. I need to just have patience. For those of you that have gone through this, what do you think my chances are?
