  1. Yeah - I didn't realize I had this problem (never really had to have band-aids and tape I guess). Oh good! So did you start mushies the day after 2 weeks post op or do you start them at 3 weeks? I'm confused by that.

  2. Hi there! I'm doing okay. I ended up canceling the appointment. The redness around it was from the adhesive on the paper tape...I guess I'm allergic to bandaids and any type of adhesive (we had covered it with gauze and the paper tape thinking that would be better than band-aids...not so much). It's starting to look better (not as good as the others, but it does seem to look better than when I saw him last week, and he said it was fine then).

How are you doing with the mushies?

  3. I've been drinking the Premiere RTD Chocolate drinks (from Costco) - they are really yummy. BUT, I just tried a new yesterday that I really like. It was from Vitalady(online) - It's a half and half combo of Champion Chocolate Whey stack and IDS Vanilla Cinnamon - do 1/2 scoop of each of those in hot water and it's like a VERY yummy hot chocolate....it was SO good - I'll be ordering some today (they sell samples, which is how I tried it). This morning, I tried Nectar Caribbean Cooler, it tasted like a Pina Colada, but was way too sweet for my liking (only drank half of it).
  4. I'm 10 days post op, and according to my doc's scale, I've only lost a pound since surgery. According to my home scale, I've lost 4 pounds...I have to admit, it is really bugging me. I'm hardly eating and doing everything I'm supposed to do - pre-surgery, I was losing weight steadily and now, nothing.:scared2: I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing and I have to believe the scale will eventually start moving again.

    Just banded last week

I think that stuff doesn't happen until after you've had a fill. I was banded on the 22nd and I just really haven't been hungry for the most part - I've been drinking the shakes and Soups occasionally because I know I need to - I'm not getting anywhere near the 1000 calories they say to do - it's more like 300-400. OMG, egg beaters sound SO good....I'm still on full liquids for another week or so
  6. I was banded last Thursday (10/22), and went back to work Monday (10/26)...also a desk job:wink2:
  7. I took the bandaids off right away (was having a reaction to them). I had staples and one of my incisions was looking a bit funky yesterday, so I went in and he removed the staples. He put steri-strips on them, and the one that looked bad, I think looks even worse now (it's like open)...so he put two steri strips on those and covered it with a band-aid - I've been changing that band-aid, but man, it really looks gross to me (but he wasn't worried about it). Maybe if you take it off in the shower, it will pull less?

    I am Hungry

Lolly - have you tried PB2? It's like a powdered peanut butter, and 2 Tbsp has like 57 cal, less than 2 gms fat and 5 gms protein - I bought some and also put in my protein shakes - SO yummy! You can add it to lots of things as you are able to eat them again to make it peanut butter flavored - supposedly you can also mix it with water to make it like peanut butter (but without all the calories/fat) - haven't tried that yet.
  9. I don't know about the gum...I would call your doc's office about that just to make sure. I was told that to get your protein requirement during the liquid stage, you had to have the protein shakes (or you can buy protein powder and add it to your soups or drinks - I bought unflavored Unjury and you really can't taste it). I also like the Premiere ready to drink protein shakes (got them at Costco) - so far, those have been my favorite. I am finding it difficult to get two of those down a day (they have 30 gms of protein each)...I get in almost a whole one a day though and have just been adding the protein powder to my soup, yogurt or pudding to get in the rest.

    Lap Band on 10/22

I had my surgery the same day! GasX strips seem to help with the gas (at least for me they have, but I'll admit, it hasn't been a big problem for me). They have Isopure Protein drinks that are not milk based - you can get them at GNC or Vitaminshoppe - I've tried the blue raspberry (it's okay) and then the cytosport watermelon Protein Drink (not that good)....I did not like the isopure that much, but some people prefer it.
  11. Interesting....

Have you tried any other protein (or do they all have a lot of iron?...I haven't ever checked that).

  12. That's great - I can't wait for that. Did he use staples on any of your incisions? I had asked before the surgery, and Lissette said that he doesn't usually use them on lap band patients - well, he did on me...not at the port incision, but the other ones. I just had a huge shock when we were changing the bandages. I'm trying not to freak out, but am really dreading the whole removal part :-(

  13. Hey Jeri - I'm doing okay....I'm pretty sore today (more so than yesterday, which was a surprise). I got home this afternoon. Haven't had any gas pains or anything like that, just feel really sore. I just took another walk around the block and am about to take some meds and hopefully get some sleep (didn't sleep much in the hospital last night).

  14. Hi there! I'm home...all went well. The first few hours after were the worst for me (nausea from the anesthesia)...but I'm good now...very sore, but hopefully that will go quickly!

  15. Congrats! Glad it all went well...it will all be worth it in the end  I'm being banded this morning....hopefully mine will be uneventful also!
  16. Hi! My surgery is at St. Joseph's in Burbank (Dr. Quilici)

  17. You can also make your own protein pudding...get some unflavored protein powder (I bought Unjury), and you can pretty much add it to anything to boost the protein (pudding, cottage cheese, crystal light, etc.).
  18. Hi Anush!

I'm doing okay...getting a bit nervous (not sure why, I'm more than ready, LOL). The liquid diet is going okay...the more I exercise though, the harder it is because I get hungrier :-(

Are you in much pain? I'm currently on hold with my primary doctor's office because there was a bit of a snafu with the lab - I went last Thursday for my bloodwork, but they didn't run all the tests they were supposed to, so they called and asked them to add them that same day, but as of Friday, they didn't have the results for those yet, so I'm worried they didn't do it and I won't have the necessary tests...grrrr.

  19. I like the Premier RTD shakes (I get them at Costco)....the one by me only has chocolate, but they're good...they're 160 calories and 30 grams of protein....I drink one for breakfast and I'm good for 4 hours (and they taste good - not sickly sweet or anything).

    Liquid diet help !!!! Please

The first few days were really hard for me too....but I think I'm good now. Although I'm finding it very hard to even get to the 1,000 calories a day that I'm supposed to be on....I am just over the whole Soup thing and so if I am not hungry, I'm just not having it . My surgery is next Thursday too...just went this morning for my blood work and my physical is today and nurse assessment tomorrow and then I'm done with the appts.
  21. I'm so glad to hear you are feeling better! I hope you're able to sleep tonight (I'm sure I won't sleep at all the night before mine, lol).

  22. Tomorrow's the big day! So excited for you....hope all goes well, I'll be thinking about you!

  23. I'm right there with you.I'm so scared that I won't get to have surgery next week because of this lingering cold, it's not full blown-and not my sinuses luckily, just a sore throat -some days it's worse than others. I wish I knew why he says no vitamins - others that I've talked to (with other doctors) were not told that same thing and continued to take them up until the week of surgery. I made chicken noodle soup and then just drained out the broth (and my mom got stuck with brothless soup, lol) - hoping that the enzymes from the chicken in the broth will help me (could be a complete old wives tale but I don't care - I'll try anything).

I am also VERY tired..I could sleep all day - but alas, I was good today - my clock went off at 5:30 and I got up and did a mile on the treadmill and I'll do another mile tonight (even though I'd much rather wrap up warm in bed and take a nap!)

  24. I think it is common to charge a program fee, but I don't think it's common to charge it BEFORE they've submitted to insurance. I didn't have to pay mine until after I was approved and my surgery was scheduled. I paid it at my last pre-op visit with the surgeon...I would be skeptical if they ask for it prior to approval - seems odd.
  25. Yes - I did find one at Trader Joe's I like - it's a sweet potato bisque....the red pepper one was a bit hot for me (I'm a wimp, lol). I'll have to check out Albertson's, I haven't been there yet.

9 pounds - that's great!!! It does make it slightly more bearable to see the scale moving in the right direct ;-)
