Banded in october--updates please
bargaingranny replied to delfinajones's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on Oct 15, 2009 weighing in at 215lbs. I now weigh 155. I've lost 60 lbs. in 11 months. I love my band (most of the time). It's been a challenge to learn a new way of eating after 55 years. I would really love to lose another 15 lbs. It's slowed down so much for the past 2 months. I could get a fill but I'm afraid of getting over-filled. That's when the problems come. I'm pretty tight. can't eat before noon, and I'm so glad to be maintaining and losing sloooowly. My goal is size 8 jeans !! any ideas? -
I had a protein shake for breakfast today but it slid right through and I got hungry sooner than usual. plus it's soooo cold here i'm going back to my oatmeal and one soft scrambled egg for breakfast. more satisfying to me right now. But after my next fill I may be going back to liquids only in the AM. It's hard to eat early. I totally understand aboout protein. It's very very important. I always eat protein first. I have read and followed the Zone diet off and on for many years and always feel great when I can do it.

So I'm now eating so little I'm worried that I'm getting enough food. Who woulda thunk it? I'm trying to just go with it though. I'm eating small amounts and get that weird full feeling and I'm satisfied. Do you guys count calories or just go with how you feel in knowing how much to eat everyday My diet today: Br: 1 large strawberry, 3 bites oatmeal Lunch 1/2 arugula salad w/ 2oz chicken, cherry tomatoes, Dinner: the other half of the salad I would love to hear comments from those who have been down this road longer than me.

i love seeing your diet

I hear you. It's a strange feeling to be so full and uncomfortable with so little. I just got my 4 fill last week and wow what a difference to get the restriction. what's a day's diet for you now?

Hi Mama. Aftercare is so important. I was getting so discouraged with not losing 'fast enough' but now that I've had my 4th fill 5.4cc in a 10cc band it's finally starting to happen. I am feeling restricted and just not interested in food. I'll bet you need more restriction. Don't be discouraged. You're not doing anything wrong. Hopefully you can find the aftercare you need to walk you through this. The surgery is only the beginning....it's all about proper restriction...lGranny -
I was so nervous about the surgery, but now I can say it was no biggie and you'll feel the same way soon. Be at Peace

I've never blogged before but I feel the need for support and accountability of the members here. I've been banded since 10-7-09. I just went in Thurs for my 4th fill and just now am beginning to 'get it' I've been frustrated with not losing as fast as I expected....15 lbs so far.. all post band. When I went in for my first fill 6wks post op she put in 1cc and I swear I couldn't pass a sip of water. just gurgle gurgle so she let out .5cc and has been going slow since just .5 per visit. So now I'm at 5.4 in a 10cc band and this is all coming together now. Oh Yeah !! after 4-5 bites I'm done and fine with it. Love this feeling. Still dealing with head hunger and just the 'need' to eat. It truly is an addiction. My doc gave me a script for Welbutrin and it has really helped. Just a little bit of help to feel calm and not crave food. I used this when I did the phentermine thing a couple of years ago. I lost 60 lbs. but you know the routine...gained back all but 5 before my first lap band consultation. Anyway that's a bit about me. I feel excited that finally I understand 'restriction' and can see that this thing works.. I know there will be ups and downs (literally) but I have a good feeling about this. I have some questions about getting enough food. My gosh it seems like semi-starvation. I guess that's ok huh?

I had surgery on Wed 10/7/09. Today is Sunday. I am doing fairly well. Still in pain especially at the incision of the port. I intend to go back to work on Tues. Now that seems about right. We'll see. I have enjoyed reading about others's experience on this site. Mostly very encouraging. I'm excited about this journey that I have started, but also apprehensive. Will it work for me? I know I will lose weight. I've done it before. Dramatically, but alas it comes back and that is so so so discouraging. So my sincere hope and prayer is that this is a real opportunity for lasting results. I wish I could hear more current follow-up from folks on this site. I wonder why did they stop posting? Since I just dished out 15k for this surgery, it motivates me to get this weight off and KEEP it off. Thoughts?

Hi Groupie, I've been following your blog. You have been an inspiration plus your writing on such a personal level makes me feel 'connected' to you. I've never blogged and this is all so new but I think I need the accountablilty to post here often. I'm going to spend some time figuring this out. Happy and Skinny New Year to you !...Granny

here I am a week later. I went back to work today. I was tired easily and a bit spacey but it went ok. I'm still taking Advil and Motrin for pain around the port area. I'm eating mushy/regular foods but certainly not much. I do feel some restriction. but mostly I guess I just am not that hungry. I had a few bites of soft fish and mash potatoes and little bit of cooked greens. Then later in the day a bit of chicken and rice. a sugar free popsicle and a small protein shake. That's it Imagine that ! I'm thankful all has gone well.
