Why can I eat so much and keep gaining weight?
untfluter replied to SamWaters's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
How many fills has he had??? How big of a band does he have and how much does he have IN the band?? also, what kind of band does he have?? I know some people it takes a LOT of fill before they feel restriction.. I have also seen a lot of people w/the Realize band that are almost filled to capacity and they don't have restriction, and everyone is different to when and how much fill it takes to feel the restriction... I have a 10 CC lap band and I only have 3.25CC in it and I have a LOT of restriction....I have had 5 fills and 2 slight unfills... -
I was banded on May 19th... I have had 5 fills w/2 slight unfills because I was too tight.

I use Pure Protein brand.. I get it at Target... I use the chocolate and I mix it w/8 oz of skim milk, a tbsp of reduced fat Peanut Butter and some ice and put it on the bullet... it's great and has close to 40 grams of protein once I use the milk and peanut butter.... -
Pre op testing for self pay?
untfluter replied to Bell1138's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through my insurance for all of my pre-op testing.. all the testing I had done where not tests that were unusual for an obese person... so this was before my surgeon's office tried to get approval from my insurance company. After their denial, that is when I went self pay. -
Amount of weight lost on the pre-op liquid diet?
untfluter replied to brat7169's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally get the easy to take to work.. but the sugar... that can be a killer.. if you like broccoli, see if you can get the pre-cut packages of raw broccoli, etc.. you can also get pre-cut celery too... cauliflower pre-cut... if you can find that.. try going that route because there is no sugar in those... hope this helps and good luck!! -
Amount of weight lost on the pre-op liquid diet?
untfluter replied to brat7169's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost about 12 lbs... I was drinking 4 slim fast shakes a day and one meal a day of 5oz of lean Protein and 1 cup of salad w/low fat/fat free dressing.. this is what I was instructed to do by my surgeon.... the only issue w/you not losing might be if you are eating too many carrots... Carrots are VERY high in sugar... I LOVE carrots.. but they are very high in sugar... something to think about... -
Mayo Banditos / Friday Weigh In !!!!
untfluter replied to Scorpioqt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Had a fill on 12/16 and weighed in at 298. This morning on my scale I was 290.8. I have been VERY tight since my fill and have had some issued eating but it is getting better... thankfully!! -
It is very common w/significant weight loss to have your gall bladder go bad... so much so that there are a lot of surgeons who will take it out when they do your procedure to keep you from having to have an additional surgery should it go bad. Fortunately I had mine out years ago so I didn't have to worry about it...

Question for Women ONLY
untfluter replied to cawells's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also on Depo... I had to stop before the surgery.... I was due for a shot close to my surgery date but I did not take the shot... I imagine that the "trauma" of the surgery may have caused you to have a period... or... if you had to stop like I did, that is probably why... -
Congrats and good luck tomorrow!!

I understand where you are coming from... I had liquids for 2 wks after my surgery... 14 days, not 10.. LOL but.. it is VERY important that you do what YOUR surgeon told you... you can't go by what others did.. every surgeon has their reasons for why they do the post op diet the way they do... I understand the hunger... but you must listen to your doctor and don't do anything different unless you talk to him/her and they tell you it's ok to advance to the next stage...good luck and congrats on being banded!!

I started in a size 28 jeans the day of my surgery.. I am now in a 20 and looking forward to getting into even smaller clothes.. although I will admit that if I have to stop shopping at the Avenue, my favorite store, that will be a little bitter sweet but exciting at the same time.. LOL

I agree, Insurance companies suck... but at the same time, I don't regret for one minute paying for the surgery myself... I wasn't so fortunate to only have a BMI of 38..my starting BMI was over 60... and my insurance wouldn't cover it.. my BMI is now 52..that's a HUGE difference..I still have a long way to go, but it's a start... my cholesterol 10 days before my surgery was 238... the end of September, it was 177.... would I have liked my insurance to pay for it.. sure.. but I don't regret taking the money from my 401K to have this surgery because I am already healthier... am I worried that something will go wrong w/the band, etc.. sure... but again, I was more worried about what could happen if I DIDN'T have the surgery.. but I can't live everyday wondering "what if something goes wrong w/my band" just because I self paid...

Hey Heidi... I just had a fill on Wednesday and Dr. Wizman just changed to 2 day of liquid after a fill too... the reasoning being that it allows more time for the swelling to go down after the fill. I am definately tight but I can get liquids down and I think it is getting a little better in terms of what I can actually get down...

That makes more sense... LOL I couldn't imagine a surgeon doing a fill 4 days after the surgery.. LOL -
First fill down...but getting frustrated already...
untfluter replied to pamg9679's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Your surgeon did your first fill FOUR days (including surgery day) after your surgery?? WOW!! that to me doesn't sound like a good thing.. I mean your stomach is still swollen that close to your surgery date... how does a surgeon do that?? I didn't get my first fill until 3 wks after my surgery and that was only because he was not going to be in the office 4 wks after my surgery...I have never heard of a fill that close to your surgery date.. that could be one of the reasons you are having so much trouble.. you were already swollen and then he added MORE restriction to your stomach.... -
It is totally normal. I was banded on May 19th... My surgeon also has us do a 2 wk liquid diet... they had us do 3 Carnation instant Breakfast along w/broth and sugar free pops,etc.... this is to allow your stomach to heal.... these things are easy to digest so your stomach doesn't have to really work.... the Fluid will fill you because the swelling of your stomach does give you some restriction.... good luck and keep up the good work!!

pre-op gal with some questions
untfluter replied to suri's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
While I agree w/most of what you said, I don't agree with the alcohol, and what I mean by that is this.... EVERY Surgeon is different.. My surgeon says no alcohol for a year.. some say, 1 month, etc... so in regards to the alcohol, you are best off asking YOUR surgeon and following what he says, not what other's did or say....same thing goes for smoking, pre-op/post op diets, etc... follow what your surgeon tells you.. not what others tell you...good luck and congrats on making the decision to begin this journey.... -
What Age Were You When You Got The Lap Band Surgery?
untfluter replied to MsFab1988's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on May 19th, 2009 and I was 41.. I am now 42... I have my high school 25th reunion next year and I will be at least a year post op when I go and hope to be down 100lbs... I am down 60 total now including pre-op diet.... -
Your surgeon is the best one to answer that, but I know w/my surgeon, we could not submerge ourselves either in a bath or the pool until all the sutures were out. I live in Florida and I had my surgery in May, so I was anxious to get in the pool to start working out, but I had to wait a while... my best suggestion would be to ask your surgeon and then go by what HE says, not anyone else.... Good luck!!

I met Dr. Bass at the S.Florida Walk from Obesity this year.. you might know a good friend of mine... Dr. Bass did her surgery too... Dr. Wizman does his seminar at his office...so I'm not sure if it was him or not... maybe he did it at the hospital last year... but he has been great... as a matter of fact, he filled me a week before thanksgiving... Water went down fine during.. but i couldn't get anything down hardly... the next day, after being in the OR all day and 3 yrs of support group meetings, him and his nurse met me at their office at 8:45pm to take some Fluid out... not may surgeons would do that... anyway, email me at my comast... let's get together since we are so close to each other!!
