  1. Good for you!! BCBS of Florida must have changed their policy. 5 yrs ago when I had BCBS Florida, we received a notice that effective Jan 1 the following year, they were no longer going to cover anything weight loss related... Glad to see that they have seen the light!!
  2. I am in Florida and I buy the Chobani greek yogurt.. my local grocery store usually has it on sale 3 for $4... BUT... if you have a BJ's Wholesale club near you.. I get a 12 pack for like $12... that's the Florida price, not sure if the price is consistant throughout all their locations.. but worth checking out!

    213lb loss photo

Your post has given me hope. I was 358.5 two weeks before my surgery.. I was banded on May 19, 2009. I am down 73.5 lbs as of this morning. I am just working towards my first 100lbs, and you give me hope that I can hit the 200lbs loss mark.. thank you for sharing!!
  4. If you threw up 4 times from one stuck episode.. there is a really good chance that your pouch is very irriatated and swollen... I would stick to liquids for at least 24 hrs to allow the swelling and inflammation to go down...
  5. I started w/a BMI of 63.5. I am 5'3" and 2 wks before my surgery I was 358.5 lbs. I was banded on May 19th. Since the beginning of May when I started the pre-op liquid diet I have lost 70 lbs.
  6. I am fortunate that I live local to the Bariatriceating store. As a matter of fact, one of the girls came to one of my support group meetings last year and they brought samples. They did bring the Believe products. I am not a coffee drinker, but I did try the cappacuino (SP?) and it was actually good... the good thing about the store is that you can go in and they will allow you to sample the products.

what did u eat for breakfast?

I am so tight in the morning that I don't "eat". I have a protein shake for breakfast every morning. I mix 8 oz of skim milk, some ice, 1 TBSP of peanut butter and my protein shake mix, Pure Protein Chocolate, and put on the magic bullet. I get close to 40 grams of protein from the shake.

I have comcast.. I think I will need to check this out.. I have two Lesle Sansone walk away the pounds videos... but I don't use them much.. which is bad... LOL Thanks for the tip on the Walk for Weightloss on the Comcast ondemand...
  9. I actually buy my protein shake mix in Target. I use the Pure Protein brand and I get a big jug for $18. I am fortunate that I live local to the Bariatric Eating store, so I can go there if I want to buy stuff.. I even know one of the girls who works there... great bunch of ladies that run the store... and the recipes on the website by the way, GREAT!!

    Flipped Port

I have a friend who had a port revision... our surgeon just moved it to a different location, very similar to what you are having done.. she said the pain after was nothing... and it was done outpatient....
  11. My before and current after pic... before was taken May 18, 2009 and current after was taken 1/1/10. I am down 70.5 lbs including the pre-op diet.

    Flying and the band

I was banded the day before you and in August I flew and I had no problems... no issues w/the metal detectors and no issues w/the band tightening up from the pressure of the airplane or altitude.. you should be fine!

    Port Replacement

I'm sorry but that is total BS that you will have to pay for revision surgery since the surgeon admitted that he punctured the tubing.. HE should be paying for the entire revision as you did NOTHING wrong and the tubing wasn't defective... you need to talk to your surgeon about him paying for it...

    Greek Yogurt YUCK!

I love greek yogurt...but not the plain yogurt.. plain yogurt in any form is nasty.. LOL I use the Chobani flavored yogurt... it comes in three flavors, peach (YUM) blueberry and strawberry..... I add one packet of splenda to it... try that...
  17. Sounds to me that he is pushing is preference on you.. I was banded on May 19, 2009. My BMI 2 wks before was 63.61. I have lost about 68lbs including my 2 wk pre-op diet and my BMI is now 51.49. My cholesterol has gone from 238 10 days before my surgery to 177 at the end of September. I am totally off one of my Diabetes meds and cut the other one from 1000mg a day to 250mg every other day.. I think I have been successful and so does my surgeon.. he tells me every time I see him how well I am doing... If you truly want the band and this surgeon will not do it, go see another surgeon.. do not let him change your mind unless he can give you other reasons other then that people w/BMI over 50 don't succeed, why he thinks that the bypass is better for you. Every person is different and your success is all up to you and how you work your band... and just for the record. .my surgeon NEVER tried to convince me that the bypass would be better.. I told him I wanted the band and he said ok.
  18. Thank you so much for the kind words.. I'm glad to know that I am an inspiration to you.. I have been banded since May 19, 2009 and it was the best thing for me and I would do it again in a heart beat... Good luck next week.. please let me know how you are doing.. feel free to email me at untfluter@comcast.net and we can talk more.. if you use any messenger, feel free to IM me on yahoo at bbwfluter@yahoo.com

  19. Yup.. that's Lortab.. that's what they gave me as well, in liquid form... it didn't do much for me... it took the edge off a little bit but that was all... thankfully after the 2nd full day, I really didn't need any pain meds... and I am a stomach sleeper, so I know what you are going through. Like everyone said, nap as much as possible during the day... a recliner is great... I only had my couch, but I would lay on the couch propped up during the day... and I did get up and walk a lot.. that is important... good luck and let us know how you are doing...

Need Pep Talk or even a chewing out

you are welcome Laura... yeah.. it's a good site.. I live in S. Florida, that is where they are based.. they have a store and everything.. I know one of the girls, Teresa White... I'm sure you saw her on the site... At one of my surgeon's support group meetings, which by the way, he separates the band pts from the bypass/sleeve patients, but for one meeting, he had the head chef from the hospital he does his surgeries at come in and he fixed a few of the recipes from the site and Teresa was also there w/samples of some of their products... I have not done one of their online support groups but I understand that they are very good...good luck and I hope you can find a support group close to you!!

I found it and downloaded it.. I have the G1... looks very cool... can't wait to really get to check it out...
  22. I am one that is very sensitive to fills...I have a 10CC band and I have 3.25 CC after my last fill the week before Christmas and I am TIGHT... it's hit and miss from day to day, even meal to meal sometimes if I can eat... I have had 2 slight unfills after being too tight...

    Very Frustrated

I would definately talk to your surgeon... but I would also get another fill...

Need Pep Talk or even a chewing out

first of all, good for you for going back and getting that fill after the unfill. Glad you are feeling better too... in regards to the support groups, are you sure there are no other supports groups in your area? Contact your local bariatric surgeons and ask them if they hold support group meetings and if they do, are you welcome even if you aren't a patient and explain your situation... I know my surgeon welcomes everyone, his patient or not...second, if there truly isn't any support groups in your area that you can attend in person, the Bariatric Eating website does host an online support group... check out their website... www.bariatriceating.com good luck!!

    Very Frustrated

It is true... some people it takes less to feel restriction then others... I was banded May 19, 2009. I only have 3.25 CC in a 10CC band..I have a LOT of restriction.. so much so that from one day to the next, I don't know if I will be able to eat or if everything will get stuck.. I was last filled the week before Christmas... I am just sticking it out and doing liquids on the days that are bad... I don't want to lose this restriction but it is also a struggle because I don't want to damage the band... I started at 358.5 2 wks before my surgery, so I also have a lot more to lose and I am down a total of almost 70 lbs including the 2 wk pre-op liquid diet... what kind of band do you have? Realize or lap-band? I have heard people w/the realize band that have needed to be overfilled before they felt restriction.. I'm glad my surgeon used the lap band on me and no the realize... good luck and be proud that you have lost what you have w/no restriction and have not gained it back.. you have more will power then most!!
