September 2009 Band Date
katklaws replied to ashleysara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everybody! I was banded on 9/1/09, and I am back to work this week. Yes, I am hungry. Ready for some chicken salad with dill seed or baked fish. I have had it with liquid food. And I would die for something salty and crunchy. But next tuesday I go to mashed, so I am almost out of this phase. Yeah!!! Recovery has been ok, although a little slower since I had a gall bladder out a month ago. And the last couple of days I have had the WORST excruciating shoulder pain. I had to call in crying for a refill of the Liquid Hydrocodone. I have heard it's gas, to a nerve. Hope it just goes away. I have lost about 25 - 30 pounds since April, but I am not sure since the surgery how much I have lost. Will know next week when I go in for follow up. Good luck everybody!! -
Hi there. I'm a newbie. My banding date is 9/1/09. On the pre-op 'New directions' shakes right now. Spent the last 6 months getting ready. Had my last meal last night. Started at 204 (april 09), and now I am at 189. Hoping to eventually get down to 120 or so post surgery. I am short and small, but realllly widee ... Looking forward to a thinner me, and hoping to learn from some of you. Lansing, MI

You are so right. Everybody who starts to feel bad, go look at some cute dresses or something and see what your future will be. Believe it!!! Go to www.tickerfactory.com create your own ticker .. then copy the code and paste into your signature through the User CP link. Good luck!! -
That is just not true! More misinformation. Do you really think the federal government wants that responsiblity and cost? Do you really think additional competition won't help costs? This is what I am talking about. I tell people, live by your values, but GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT. Policy and media is what I do for a living. I have analyzed this and I am SO sick of people who get it wrong so vehemently and incorrectly. Policy can't be created through misinformation. Right now Barney Frank is my hero. The brutal truth is needed. Finally, somebody who has the balls to stand up and address the nonsense. Barney Frank goes toe to toe at health care town hall - CNN.com

Well, right now I take the horse pills I have at home, but will have to purchase something later. Nice to know D comes in liquid. Cool! Good luck on your surgery.

Oh, they were the ones bitching about government run health care. HELLOOOO!!!!! Seriously, most of the people that show up at these town halls are misinformed. And they watch Glenn Beck all day, so they have to emulate the tone, posturing, outrage, and yelling. It's a lack of civility that does nothing to address the problem. It just makes the other side look stupid. The thing is, varying opinions are good. All sides have perspectives to contribute. It's the misinformation and fanatic frenzy that is just embarassing. Debate your points in a calm, concise, truthful, educated manner, or get the hell out of the way for those who are versed on the issue. If this segment of protestors can be so easily manipulated to act out with swastikas and assault weapons, maybe they need a time out or medication. And need to exit the debate entirely. Which congressman, if I told you that you could probably find me. No thanks. I don't need raving lunatics finding me any more than they already have. And I totally disagree with your assessment of our country's status on health care. We're at the bottom because we don't have universal access, not because of medicare. It "is the only industrialized nation that does not guarantee access to health care as a right of citizenship. 28 industrialized nations have single payer universal health care systems, while 1 (Germany) has a multipayer universal health care system like President Clinton proposed for the United States. Government's administrative costs are much lower (3%)than the private sector (20 - 30$) because it isn't for PROFIT ... same with transportation. http://againstallclods.wordpress.com/2009/08/17/the-simple-and-accurate-way-to-understand-the-health-insurance-reform-issue-part-1/ So now that we choose to civilly disagree ..why don't the folks from TX just secede from the nation and get it over with?

I loved the class. Even though there is a lot of information you already know, it helps to motivate and really drive home the process. I love it the teacher is a nutritionist and lapband patient herself. I feel so lucky I am in a program that is so comprehensive. Do you go in on thursday? Who is your doctor, Richardson or Lane?

The whole idea of shakes is you will lose weight to shrink the liver, and get your Vitamins. At least the brand we were given provides that. (New Directions). Egg Drop soup with chx broth ..mmmmm.. that's a great idea. For post op anyway. Good luck!

Hi there! I have Dr. Richardson. She did an awesome job removing my gall bladder. My holistic osteopath recommended their office, and I have been impressed by their comprehensive approach. No quick fix. Just adding tools. Love it. Who do you have? You go in on the 20th?
-
Oh, don't get me started. We are no where near socialized medicine. I was at a Town Hall filled with hecklers, and a Congressman asked people to raise their hands who were on Medicare, and a whole bunch of them raised their hands. Some people need something to bitcha bout, hate any change, and are playing right into the Karl Rove/insurance industry play book.

Update? How did it go? I go in Sept. 1.

Did you cheat on pre-op liquid diet
katklaws replied to crystalcml's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Day 1 of my 2 week shake diet pre-op. I don't care how hungry I get. I have waited too long for this, to blow it by being temporarily weak. I am excited. I am ready. -
how private is too private?

My husband was pretty much opposed to it. He's tall, lean, has little body fat, and just didn't understand what it was like. All I had to do was walk around the block more. He has a hard time seeing things outside of his little box, so I pretty much told him that he needed to get on board and become educated about the program and process before he offers his opinions. We had a few major disagreements about it, then he started to lighten up. He's on board now, it took months of reinforcing it. You should probably tell your husband, although I can understand some people have a hard time opening up to things they don't understand. I wish you luck.
