I love the EAS shakes. No sugar and not as sweet. I buy a case of pre-prepared shakes for on the road, and the powder for at home to use with my magic bullet. Love it!!!

That's the one I get. It's not as sweet. Love it. -
Struggling with my protein, Please help me my wise friends!
katklaws replied to Grandma26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
FYI, your body only absorbs 25 g of Protein at a time. Also folks, I buy the EAS shakes and powder in bulk at Sam's. They're sugar free and only about 110 calories with about 20 g of protein. -
THEY AREN'T PRIVATE businesses when MY TAX DOLLARS bail them out. And you don't think Bush had czar's? This post is so unintelligent I can't even respond to everything. Go back to college and improve your critical thinking skills. And TURN OFF GLENN BECK.

You have to add the unjury and taste it to find a good amount. Don't just dump in a bunch and expect it to work. Also, add the unjury to cottage cheese, chili, etc. It's great in food. -

Oh yeah, I would get some unjury. You can add it to so many things and get that extra Protein. Get the unflavored for flexibility. I also bought some EAS chocolate protein powder adn sometimes start the day with a shake. Only 130 calories too. -
Advice Needed on Having Gall Bladder Surgery After Lapband
katklaws replied to Mandie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the gall bladder out 1 month before the lapband, and both were laproscopic. And I had 2 c-sections, 4 and 6 years ago. I'm sure there was some scar tissue, but my doctor likes to avoid open surgery. Hope yours does too. -
Can't feel the band at all. Sometimes you can feel my port, but I will make jokes with my husband, I say to him, "honey, do you want to touch my port?" It's all good.

IBUPROFEN????? Guys - may be TMI
katklaws replied to JenFenRen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told no Ibuprofen pills. Ever. I hear you on the cramps. Or sinus headaches .. ugh ..Tylenol doesn't touch it. I will take 2 tbsp of the kids ibuprofen if it gets bad enough. Tastes like hell though. -
Sounds like Protein deficiency?? Try adding unjury unflavored and up it to min 75 grams a day?

Have you had your band more than 6 months?
katklaws replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The thing about exercise, is you also build muscle, which weighs more than fat, but burns fat. So you technically could gain weight, but you it's muscle, not fat. And you increase your metabolism which burns fat. And you don't have to be a gym rat, just ride a bike, dance, have some fun moving your body. Get that heart rate up, there are many more benefits to exercise than just weight loss, your body just tightens up and you minimize health risks. To do one without the other, sort of doesn't make sense to me. However, I agree with you about the mental hunger aspect. I know what hunger is, and my body had had some real hunger. Stomach growling, uncomfortable, not able to sleep hunger .. and it was no figment of my imagination. Of course, I was told it would happen and would be temporary. I was mentally prepared for the several weeks of shakes only. I just got my 1st fill yesterday, after losing 33 pounds since April doing all of the things I need to do in addition to the Lapband - exercise, Protein, Vitamins, journaling what and why I eat ... I really enjoy the program I am in. It's comprehensive, and through our support group, classes and manual, I was mentally prepared for what I needed to do, and accepted a long time ago that the lapband is really just a tool, not a short cut. We'll see where I end up, but I suspect it will help me keep the weight off, I will lose more than if I didn't have it. I hope you find a good solution, but without a comprehensive approach, it's much harder. Good luck to you. -
The window of absorption for Protein, good question. I know my Vitamins are administered in 3 hour intervals for optimum absorption, but I eat protein before that. I usually start my day with an EAS shake (110 calories) with 25 g of protein. That takes care of a 1/3 before I even really start my day. And I add unflavored unjury protein to just about everything else. Heck, cottage cheese has 14, if you add even 1/2 a scoop of Unjury, you have your 2nd 25 grams.
-
Not enough, and your hair will fall out. I was told at least 75 - 80 a day, but your body only absorbs 25 at a time. So more at one sitting is not necessarily any different.

If you find a 100% whole grain, no or low sugar cereal, it should be actually good for you. Complex Carbs are OK in moderation. I bought a cereal called Uncle Sam. Added a small 1/2 tsp of splenda, it satisfied my craving for grains. Yum.

So here's the million dollar question
katklaws replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
AWESOME~ That's how I feel. Thanks for sharing that. Made my day. -
I am sorry your experience has been riddled with non information, that sucks. That sounds more like a function of your particular doctor? That has not been my experience. We even received a manual and had to take 6 weeks of classes to learn the materials. I hope it gets better for you.

Surgery oct 1st - gas pains are horrible
katklaws replied to bethany329's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same thing. It was so painful. I went ahead and got my 1 vicodin prescription refill for the next few days. It hurt that bad. But it has gone away since then, thank god! -
I was banded on Sept. 1 and going on my 5th week. Will have my 1st fill next week. I am eating pretty healthy (although I did have a girls weekend and ate a few samples that weren't exactly low fat), but gained about a 1 pound since my lapband (lost 30 pre-op). But I have a decent appetitie still. I am at the point where foods aren't sticking, I feel pretty good. Yes, I chew slow, and eat some the low fat foods, incl shakes, etc. Try and limit my portions. Question is this: do the fills make a big difference in your hunger?
-
Cool. I just wanted to hear somebody say it is normal to have an appetite before the fills, and that the fills will make a difference with hunger. I think I'm doing good, but it helps to hear from others who are going through the same things.

Unjury or any other "unflavored" protein powder
katklaws replied to thinkingaboutit77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love the unjury Protein. I add it to cottage cheese, yogurts, etc. Slowly add it to your food. I have whey protein too, but it's really sweet. Love Unjury. -
Definitely not hiding. Just freakin busy! I come back here and there's 15 more pages. And I'm still right .. :mad2:

September 2009 Band Date
katklaws replied to ashleysara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
4 week of liquids (2 weeks pre-op shakes only), I have really about had it. The soups aren't too bad though, but I'm ready for some other foods besides the 3 things I eat now. Ugh. I am starting to obsess about foods I want to eat. All healthy, but pureed liquid foods just aren't that good. I lost about 30 since April, but in the last week I don't see much of a difference. Ready for meat. meat meat.
