    Discouraged

You are right on target. Are you getting in your protein FIRST? That will help fight the hunger. As for the other people, don't let them put you down. Explain that this is a tool for weight loss not a magic wand. Tell them that you have a long long way to go and you'll let them know how much weight you have lost when you're ready to tell it. Please don't give up....you can do it.
  2. Lisa: I too started this process in Dec2008. I am very happy to have made this decision. I think it may save my life or at least increase it. Good luck.

    HELP! Is this normal?

Drink something warm. It should go away. If not, call your doctor.
  4. Surgery on 8/11/09. To date, I have lost 26.1 pounds! I, never in my life, no matter what diet I was on, lost this much weight in such a short period of time. I know I will reach times that I don't lose on a regular basis but it is sweet now and I'm enjoying it.

    Happy Loser

BethL: I am still on the soft diet following surgery. Doing great with it. Looking forward to regular food next week. I haven't cheated once and don't intend too. My health took a turn for the worse in late 2008 and I was given this chance for a healthier life style with this tool. I don't intend to ruin it in any way. So, I sticking to all my doctor's rules. I plan to see at least 100 years old and to be skinner too!
  6. You are right on track. Everything you mentioned is normal. Lots of burping and gurgling sounds. My appetite has just begun to come back. I had to make myself drink my 2 oz of shake and drink my water. Make sure you get as much rest as you can also. You know you have to have healing time.

    Restriction is finally here

I am using this time to "teach" myself to slow down, take smaller bites, not to gulp, use a smaller plate/fork/etc. and mainly NOT to drink anything with my meals. Maybe when I get restriction, I'll be ready. I too don't plan on having PBs, vomitting, or anything else, if I can help it.

    Burp!

I would love to stop burping! I hate to do it out in public. Between the burping and the stomach growling...I sound like a lion sometimes.

How do You do Eating Out?

I haven't eaten out as yet but Chinese is my all time favorite. I have been thinking about what I will do since my place is a buffet. I think I will stick to the Hot & Sour soup and be happy. I don't think it will be possible to count every little carb, Protein, fat, sugar, etc that you put into your mouth. Use common sense and do what you did. Eat your allowed amount and leave the rest or take it home for someone else in the family.

    Curious

I had surgery on 8/11/09. I have to say that this last day or two, I have finally say that I am feeling hungry. I have stayed on my clear liquids-full-liquids and am now on the soft diet faithfully. I can't afford to blow all of this over some food. I find that the creamed soups are very helpful in the food department, along with the Protein shakes. Yogurt is helpful too. Just try to find things to keep yourself busy w/o always thinking of what you can't have in food. Think about what the journey's end will bring you.

Yippee! Another 4 pounds gone this week.
  12. Please don't be discouraged. Everyone has a different situation. You may drop lots of pounds when you don't expect it. Do what your doctor says and it will get better. Are you walking or doing any exercise? Lapband is not as fast as gastric bypass. It's a slower and safer way of losing weight. When you first get your band, there is no restriction except what is in the band itself. As you get your fills, things will change. Hang in there.

    Just Banded!

Let me be the first to congratulate you! Glad you are home and it's over...at least the hardest part. Make sure you get plently of rest and allow for good healing time. Don't eat anything you aren't suppose too. Your journey has begun!

Support group is on the 19th...third Saturday. Hope to see you there. Would love to meet all of you.
  16. I read all the previous posts in this thread. I can't imagine WHY anyone would pay the amount we pay for surgery, go thru surgery, pain, have scars, etc. etc and then talk about CHEATING! My goodness, I feel so fortunate to be able to even have the surgery at all. I was told in New Orleans that I was too old for it and I thought I would die a fat old lady someday. We retired and moved home to Alabama. Shortly after doing that, my health started falling apart on me. I was rushing to the end of my life as my doctor said. He suggested the Lapband for me and when he did, I started crying I was so happy. Now, I have a chance to live a long life, a healthier life and a skinnier life. NO WAY, am I going to goof it up now! I'll eat and drink exactly what my book of directions says. I'm not gambling and playing around with all of this journey. I plan to win!

    Getting Exercise after lapband

My doctor said to walk, walk, walk. The problem I have is that I have bad legs and walking is hard to do right now. So I walk as far as I can, rest, and start all over again. Better than nothing, I hope.
  18. I am a new bander as of 8/11/09. On Mondays, I quilt at my local church with a bunch of wonderful cooks that bring food for lunch. At 11:00 a.m., we stop quilting and eat together. Some of the husbands join us also. The main thing I am most proud of is I was able to eat my protein (fish) and I didn't drool over all of the other food. I was satisfied and happy with what I had for myself. That is a huge step forward for me. You don't know what great cooks these ladies are.....
  19. Go to GNC store and buy some Isopure drinks. They are high in protein. Can you travel with a small one-serving blender (Hamilton Beach has one)? If you can, you could make your morning shake or night shake right in your room. The main thing you want to remember is to get in your protein and your water each day. Good luck.

I'm sorry. I resolved the problem during the night after asking the questions. Go figure.... I deleted it since it was resolved...thank goodness. I am feeling so much better today. Now, maybe I can get on with my lapband journey.
  22. I was allowed the Matrix Vanilla Protein Powder with milk when I went on the full-liquids diet on day 4 post-op. This is a great recipe for a shake that tastes just like a Reese's Peanut Butter cup. 1/2 cup fat-free milk 1 cup crushed ice 1 scoop of vanilla Protein Mix 1 pk of Sugar free Swiss Miss Chocolate Mix 1 Tablespoon of Creamy peanut butter 3 pkgs of Splenda Mix everything well in blender and enjoy. I didn't need the Splenda..it was sweet enough for me already.
  23. I certainly hope that I don't lose my close friend. Four years she was weighting almost four hundred lbs and is now at 142 lbs after having the surgery. I was there for her then and so far, she is with me. All my other friends/family seem to be very supportive. My church friends that I am closest too, all have a daughter or niece that has had it done, so they are being supportive to us all. You have to decide who are really friends and who are people that you interact with according to the circumstances of the moment. Not all people that you interact with on a daily basis is a real friend......
  24. I love the cream of chicken the most. However, New England clam chowder isn't bad for a break every now & again but you have to run it thru the blender to get the chunks out. You could make your own potato soup, you know.
  25. By all means, at least, call your doctor's office and inform them of the problem. You don't want to take even a ting little chance when a phone call might be enough. As for sleeping, everyone responds differently to anesthesia and your body may be having a little trouble shaking it off this time. Now stop reading and go make that call please!
