  1. Prior to surgery, I always had such a dry mouth. Felt like cotton was in it. I'm pretty sure it was my meds and I still take all of them. Not far enough along to drop some yet. Anyway, I have noticed that I seem to have more salvia (sp?)in mouth and no more dry cotton mouth. Is this normal? Don't get me wrong, I like not having the dry mouth but don't like the salvia all the time either. I seem to be spitting a lot. BTW: Off subject..is there a spell check on this forum?

    Shingles

Neosporin is not for shingles. There is medications for shingles. Don't cover them either.

3 days post op and confused...

I was banded 8/11 and I am just now beginning to feel hunger. I started on regular food today and so far, have done well. Once the swelling goes down, you will be able to eat more. Just make sure you continue with your water & protein. It's very important. If you have problems with gas, walk, walk, walk. It helps.

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients

I ask my neighbor about the fills since she is a Dr Schmitt patient. She said that Lisa has done both of hers. She also suggested that I NOT get the deadening shot. Says it hurts and the fill isn't nearly as bad. Is this correct information? She drinks Adkins Advantage Shake, twice a day. It has 15g protein, 1g sugar, 1g net carbs, and 2g of Fiber. Said that it has helped regulate her bowel movements. I tried the vanilla flavor and it isn't as good as the Matrix but I can tolerate it in order to get the fiber on a daily basis.

    im hungry

Since you are on liquids, drink warm things like broth, strained soups, herbal teas. You aren't limited as to amount and everytime you feel hungry, go drink something. It will help. The time will pass.

    Protien Shakes??

I tried Akins Advantage Vanilla Shake. It has 15g of Protein, 1 g of Sugar, 1g Net Carbs and 2 g of Fiber. It helps with the bowel situations since it has the fiber in it too. Drink two a day. Can purchased them from Walmart or by the case from Sam's club. Not too bad but they be COLD.
  7. Repeat after me, "I forgive myself and will go back to what I am suppose to eat." The week will go by and then you can start on regular meals. However, since you were so easily tempted, you really need to evaluate WHY you caved in so easily, so that you can avoid future problems. I know you can do this! So many people before us have done it and we can too. Take care of yourself, follow the guidelines, make good choices, and the first thing you know, the guys will be drooling!

    5 weeks post op

Erin, I think it's a smart idea to not go to cosmetology school right now. Every young lady should have a wonderful senior year and enjoy all that goes along with it. You also don't want to be so stressed that you can't enjoy either one. Also, you want to take the time to really get comfortable with your band, know what you can/can't do it with it. It's stressful enough learning about it. You're very young and life awaits you...but you don't have to rush everything. Enjoy life sweetie.

    Fill port question

My friend has this surgery about four years ago. She wears a firm support panty and it helps all the giggling.

    5 weeks post op

Erin, I wake every morning with nausea and it's not fun. I have found that if I have something warm, like tea or hot SF chocolate, it goes away. My body no longer likes cheese either. It makes me feel bad!

    2.5 Weeks post op

I was told that while I was healing, walking was the main exercise to do. No lifting or vacumning either. No swimming for 6 weeks. Hope this helps.

    giving hope

Congrats on feeling better. I was banded 8/11 and I'm doing well with the exception of some lingering gas once in awhile. I too am on a soft diet until Monday. It isn't too bad. I am trying to be more concerned with improving my bad habits than always thinking about food. I have the motto that some others have: I eat to live...not live to eat. I refuse to let food be my controller any longer!
  13. I had a little problem after surgery and my doctor put me on a med-pack. Fine now. Call your doctor and ask about some antibiotics.

Will I get my first fill????

My daughter had surgery two years ago and she said that for a whole year, the gas would come & go. Just when she thought it was over for good, it would come back. I just know it is a miserable feeling! BTW, thank your hubby for me for serving his country and tell him that I for one appreciate his service. Good Bless him & all our troops wherever they are.
  15. I'm happy to hear that you are alright. Thanks goodness for your doctor. Thanks for posting this thread. You never know when it will come in handy for someone.

Will I get my first fill????

I am hoping that I get a fill on 9/23 too. So far, I've lost 26.1 lbs but I don't have much of a restriction at all. Sometimes at night, I am tight but not much. The gas is killing me tonight. Guess I shouldn't have eaten that tuna.

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients

Hey, anyone tried the Muscle Milk and the Unjury Protein Powder? I am using the Matrix from the hospital but thought I would try others to see if they are better.
  18. I use vanilla Matrix that my doctor recommended. It's okay and I can mix other flavors in it. I am going to try the muscle milk that someone mentioned on another thread.

    Is this normal??

I was banded on 8/11 and I had the same problems you are having. I didn't take any pain meds at all as I have a high threshold for pain. My nurse said to walk, walk, and use gas-X. It finally got better about a week later. The only problem I have now is that my tummy itches all the time! Hang in there. You will be alright.

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients

Thanks Shawna: I've been reading old posts and according to them, I am suppose to be in "Bandster's Hell" with no restrictions and might gain instead of losing. Well, so far, I am losing, I do feel some restriction at times, and I am thankful for it. I hope to meet you at group on the 19th.
  21. I know what you mean. Mine sounds like an orchestra sometimes. I sure hope it doesn't do this in the middle of church one week!

    One meal at a time...

Yippee! You managed to beat that mean old craving. Good for you. I know it isn't easy.

    Restriction is finally here

    PB's = Productive Burps
  24. A better choice than bread would have been a protein shake. You probably haven't damaged your band but you do need to be careful about what you are eating/drinking right now. You need to let your site heal. Bread is hard on some people that have been out longer than you, some never have it again. A good rule to remember now is that your stoma is about the size of a dime and food has to pass thru it. Oh another good thing to remember....chew, chew, chew
  25. Melinda_205: Get rid of the Dt Mtn Dew. It is carbonated. It will stretch your pouch and you'll have slippage. If you have to have caffeine, drink Tea.
