  1. Hopefully when you get your own home, you can have better control over what you eat. It will be up to you completely then and you can't blame your family for what you eat. Gain control and hold on to it. You deserve to be healthier and thinner. We all do!

    I'm Scared

Plan your day very carefully. Planning ahead will make a huge difference. Keep your eye on the goal and you can do it. Oh, you need to also focus on other things than food to meet your social needs. Food is soon gone but family & friends are more important. You can do this!
  3. At church tonight, I had just the meat from a grilled hamburger that had Dale's seasonings on it. Now I have gas so bad I can't move it. Can I take a rolaids or pepto bismol??????:cursing: Someone please hurry with an answer. It late and I need to go to bed. I can't walk all night.

    Rolaids????

Feeling great tonight. Doctor said to take the Gas-X and follow the directions on the box. I won't eat another hamburger for a long time! It might have been the Dale's seasoning but since I haven't eaten beef yet, it could have been a rejection from my body. I know it doesn't like cheese anymore. Back to chicken & fish. Thanks for the help.
  5. Okay---forgive yourself and start again. Don't look back, just forward. You can do it. Keep a food diary, drink your water, eat the protein, low-fat, low carbs, and exercise. You can do it. Good luck.
  6. Sure you can! Also, take in some fiber and drink your water everyday.

    Failed....

Please don't be so hard on yourself. Just take steps to do better tomorrow. Prepare ahead of time and plan on what to eat daily. It's a long journey and you can do it. Just start over!

    Vitamin B12

Could you share the recipe for the muffins?
  9. Completely normal! Some people have the other problem and some have yours. It will get straight again soon.

    No fill ever??

I think you need to talk with your doctor again and ask him "why" get banded at all if you don't need fills. If you don't need fills, according to him, is he just doing surgeries to take money from people? Something isn't right here.

    Rolaids????

I had run out of the Gas-X and since I live in a rural area (Walgreens is 15 miles), I didn't want to go out that late. I didn't take the rolaids but intend to call doctor and get some more Gas-X today! Thanks for your help.
  12. I still drink a protein shake for breakfast as I am not much for food in the mornings. My doctor wants me to use 1% milk in the shakes. Sometimes, I will have one at night with my night meds.
  13. I was regularly taking Aleve prior to surgery. My doctor said I could not take at all. He said it was "a guaranteed ulcer". He also said I could bet my last dollar on getting one if I took it anyway. Needlessly to say, Aleve is not in my meds cabinet anymore.
  14. I've had two fills and could eat the dog (if I had one). It's all about keeping your eye on the goal, working hard, & not giving up. You can do it. Just hang tight until you get enough fills.
  15. I intend to get a make over when I get to goal and I'm 67 years old! No long hair for me. I've been there, done that and don't plan to do it again. I used to have such long beautiful healthy hair that I could almost sit on it. My hubby, even today, likes it better long. However, in my own opinion, unless a woman wears it up in a very tailored look, she is just fooling herself to think it makes her look younger. Long hair after age 50 is like trying to hold on to her prime days of women hood.

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients

I am a retired psych nurse and when I worked I had a lot of patients that were on Zoloft. It's an effective and well tolerated drug. It won't make you gain weight! It is used for anxiety, panic disorders, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Some women get relief from PMDD right away and others require a little longer. In the last 15 years, it has been found to be a safe drug. If you want to know more about it, go to www.zoloft.com. Good luck. Hope to see you at support this month.

    MAY 2009 Bandsters!

I'm not a May bander but I wanted to say congrats to both of you on the weight loss. I hope I can say the same when I reach my 6 month anniversary. Both of you have encouraged me. Thanks.

    18 days post op

I didn't feel hungry for the first month. I think it was the swelling. Now I could eat the dog if I had one! I have to be very careful in what I eat and how much.
  19. I had 4cc on first fill and 2.5cc on second fill. The first fill was six weeks after surgery and the second fill was four weeks later. I have a 11cc band. The only time I even know I have the band is when I eat too fast & don't chew well. Then I have PAIN!
  20. Make sure you get in your 64 oz of Water and your Protein each day. Go easy on the carbs and get rid of anything that causes you to graze. I didn't feel any restriction with my first two fills but am looking forward to my third. Maybe it will help me feel more restriction. I hope I know when I get to my sweet spot. Right now, it's still up to me to be completely in control of what & how much I eat. The opportunity to even have the band is very special to me because I thought I was too old for it. They wouldn't do it five years ago when I lived in Louisiana because I was over 60 yrs old. Therefore I'm not eating anything that could cause me to fail! I will get healthier and live longer. The weight loss is just a side effect of getting healthier to me. So hang in there and it will happen for you.
  21. Wow! You're doing great. Don't be discouraged. The weight will come off if you continue to do what your doctor said. It might slow down but it will pick up again. Just hang in there. You're not alone. This is a slower journey than the gastric but safer and more long lasting. You shouldn't be losing more than 1-2 lbs a week anyway.
  22. Congrats! You're doing great. So far, I haven't had a gain either and I'm like you about Thanksgiving...more family time & less food. I still have a long way to go to goal but I'll get there someday. I am becoming a new woman as each day passes and it's a good feeling. I will not be a slave to food anymore! As my hubby says "eat to live and don't live to eat".
  23. I take Bariatric Advantage Vitamins that are berry flavored chewable. They were recommended by my doctor and I buy them from the hospital pharmacy where I had my surgery. They are a complete multi Vitamin. You probably could go online to buy them. They are very good. My mother uses a chewable vitamin that isn't the same kind but she says they are just fine.
  24. I'm 11 weeks post-op and have lost a total of 38 pounds. Doing great and right on target according to my doctor.
  25. Just say, "I had a minor surgery" and let it go at that. It's no one's business what kind of surgery you had and if they persist in asking, tell them you had a "secret 007 device inserted to monitor nosey questions". That should do it for you!
