I grew up in Nahant, Ma. Now I live in southern Maine. I was banded at Maine Medical Center. They are a bariatric center of excellence. My experience with them over the last 6 months has been great.

My preop diet was 3 protein shakes and a lean cuisine or something similar, 300 calories or under with 2 oz of protein added. I was told at one of the group sessions that the protein prevents hair loss. I'm sure we need protein for other reasons, as well, but I definitely didn't want to lose my hair. So i make sure I get in all my protein in first.

Today is the morning after my surgery, yesterday afternoon. I feel pretty good. My port site is pretty sore and I barely notice some pain in my left shoulder area. I woke up once around 2am to take a vicodin. I'm not having any trouble drinking, I felt so dehydrated on the way home we picked up some popcicles when we stopped for my presciption. I ate two before we got home. This morning I drank my protein shake, slowly, took a half hour, and took all my vitamins with no problems. I'm planning on going back to work on Friday.:thumbup:

Greetings Everyone, Long time reader, first time poster. I spoke with my nutritionist about coffee and she told me that small amounts were OK, as long as it wasn't black. I saw my surgeon last week and she said, "so how are you doing giving up your morning coffee?" I'd like to get everyone's opinion on coffee or no coffee. It sounds silly, but giving up my morning cup will probably be my biggest challenge. Thx Maggly

Thx for the responses everyone. I like the idea of the protein powder in the coffee. I think I'm going to give it up for 2 weeks after my surgery, then start slowly and see how I do. My surgery is this Tuesday, wish me luck
