Eat what you want!
pilotlisa2008 replied to rmbj0721's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So glad this is up here. I have been having a few bad days, and they are nothing like a pre op bad day would have been but I may eat an extra snack or small meal once or twice a day and my gym membership has lapsed. I knew it would. I have a habit of being gung-ho on health kicks and giving up a few months in. So no big shock there. But I can't remember where I heard it but I read some where " if we were any good at being on a diet and working out we wouldn't have need surgery" I love this phrase and think of it often. I also take comfort that I would have to work really hard to actually gain weight. I think not stressing and obsessing is helpfull in loosing. I do make an effort but there are days when stress and myself get the better of me. I have made some choices I have been able to stay with like no soda. If it really is a learning process I must be a slow learner, But I am learning and that's something. -
How has this changed your relationships?
pilotlisa2008 replied to HiMow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've stopped weighing myself, and I used to say either in my head or out loud I'm fat. I still might say it but it passes, it used to be followed by a trip to the fridge for comfort eating. I might say it and move on , I have to remind myself that I'm working on it but the negative feelings pass. I used to obsess about it and feel hopeless, that is a big difference. I have to look at my real issues and not hide behind weight so much. As for my husband he is the same as he ever was, I was heavy in highschool and when we married so no big deal there. My mom is constantly telling me how great I look but I only see small changes. She and I and my entire family have weight issues. The only thing that buggs me a little is the way I want to make even healthy-er choices but I can't change the world around me ie.. people I dine with, and also to be honest I still have bad days when I just need a candy bar. But I'm working on it and it will pass I don't have to binge, in fact it's impossible to truly binge like I used to. -
My I get personal? My doc warned me I might all of a sudden get my period back, and start ovulating. I am slightly concerned. I can go for up to 6 mos with out. Which is no big, as I am not planning starting a family right this second. Funny though thats how I got the diagnosis, I was a dumb 19 year old newly wed who was trying and after three years no results DR said PCOS. I have been off the pill happily for nearly 9 years. sorry long story to bascily ask has the sudden return of a period or an acidential pregnancy happened to any one out there? Especialy if there was no way the PCOS would have allowed this pre op ? Just curious, We would love a munchkin in about five to ten years, so I would hold out hope for that, just not tomorow. Thanks

Yoga anyone ? I went tonight and I am a little soar in my arms but feeling pretty good. I had tried yoga several times in the past but didn’t stick with it. After a mis-weighing incident I decided to give it another shot. I know I need to work hard and do my part too. What happened was; I had a little set back… I was accidentally weighing myself ten lbs lighter. I feel like a bone head I thought I had lost thirty, turns out to be twenty. Still ok, so I decided to up the ante on exercise. I have been swimming twice a week for two weeks, I am thinking I should add yoga one or two times a week. The teacher tonight was really cool. There was even one other lady a little bigger than me so we hung out in the back of the class. It was nice that there were people of all ages and fitness levels, so you just do the modifications that work best for you. I was interested to hear about others who are just starting or maybe a full fledged yogi. Any struggles, victories, mastered a new pose? surg date 08/05/09

Any one Banded 8/4/09 or 1st week of August
pilotlisa2008 replied to ToomuchRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is hard not to compair my 23Lbs with someone elses 35 or 40. I don't mean that to be snotty, I realy am happy for those of you who are seeing it all fly off. Meanwhile , I am thinking about another fill, but I thought I might wait a while. Any way how do you know if you need another fill? is there a check list? -
My loss has been slow and I am in a struggle too. I lost about 20 lbs but 12 was on the pre op liquid diet. I think the DR should be more understanding. For peets sake! What sort of way is this to inspire you. I was banded 8/05/09 and also had my first fill twoweeks agoe. I go to the gym every other day, but I find I eat five small meals a day. I am attempting to get serious with my food journal, yesterday I actualy wrote down every thing like I am supposed to, I was shocked to see I had only eaten 1100 cal. I thought I was pigging out. Some days are better than others. The best thing I can say is my weight has finaly stopped creeping up like it was constantly doing pre op. I sometimes think " man how did I wind up this way" like I wasn't a party to it. We all know that isn't true. I caused this issue, and now I have to work on fixing it. Sorry tangent city. I would encourage you to not give up and if your Doc is realy a jerk, I'd concider continueing your post op care with a different one. It never hurts to make a few phone calls and see who's available for a consultation. Good luck.

We now drink Iced Tea with Splenda or the Kroger sub. I don't even miss it any more -
Hi all. Has anyone ever seen that show “you are what you eat” with Jillian Mkeath on the BBC ? Well I was watching it last night and she had this large man in a lap pool and was telling us all at home that swimming burns 550 cal per half hour! I was wondering if any of you are on a swimming program? I love to swim and plan to go today. If this is true I should be fit in no time. Has anyone out there had any success with this or Water aerobics?

pilotlisa2008 replied to pilotlisa2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am getting results. I have now lost 30lbs since the begining of my journy. I had to buy new pants and I took in four of my shirts to fit now 2-3 inches. I can really tell around the neck area. I am now an advocate of the free style/ doggy paddle lap swim. I feel it in my arms, and once in my fingers? I do get breathless and the heart rate goes up too. That sounds goofy but it's true. I especialy love how I don't sweet and it is alot nicer on the knees. I think I am finaly at a point that I want to try some of the classes. I uesd to take lessons and was briefly on the swim team as a kid during middle school. I feel like I have forgotten everything about techneique. I know I am getting results but It may be fun to have support of new friends and aprofessional teacher. The aerobics could be fun too. If nothing else I can have fun all by myself just swimming laps. BTW thanks Thin10 for the livestrong.com site/ myplate.com very helpfull. Surg date 08/05/2009 -
:blink:LOL I once heard them referd to as prosti-tots. I was out looking for a cute baby gift int the kids clothes dept at walmart I actualy saw a pair of sequined hot pink string bikini underpants and training bra (for a boobless child)! Holy moly! I just wanted a little frilly dress or blanket witha duck on the hat. I do remember wanting an off the shoulder shirt or the ocasional mini skirt that was to short (1980's) Thank heavens my mom knew when to say no or put a leaotard on under my " outfits"

pilotlisa2008 replied to pilotlisa2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL I probably got the Cal count wrong. Any how I went to the gym and walked .75 miles and then swam 10 laps in the olympic pool. No Idea how much the numbers for today were butI'm going to keep at it. I realy do feel tired. I cant' be to hard on my self though because I am still a large lady, and I havn't exercized in a very long time. There was only one person who openly stared at me, it realy was rude. I just kept doing my thing and told my self he's just an #$% and he must have no manners. Every one else was realy nice and over half seniors just puttering. I am pretty proud that I got up and did something. It' s a big step for me, I have to work not to be a shut in. I just have to continue with my baby steps. Start 293 pre op 280 now 266.5 -

I had my first fill on sat I am suppsed to be graduly moving on to solid food, but I'm a little hesitant. 1. I hate to vomit. 2. I lost 13lb pre op and 12 post op all on liquid. 3. less cooking. I did heat up some instant grits last night and I'm able to eat only a pack and a half and be full! pretty cool to be full like that. 293lb to start 280 day of surg @ 270 now -
Lap Band while a full time student - possible?
pilotlisa2008 replied to treyes628's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a full time student working tward my comercial pilots license and 2 bachelors degrees. I just had mine done between semesters, we had 2 weeks off. I realy only needed one week to jump back in full force. You can do what ever you want! just have realistic expectations. The band was right for me, for recovery time, less pain, slower loss to get used to the changes phiscily and mentaly, and the price. But I agree with saffi255 your school schedule can be changed or take a lighter load if you have to, you'll be a batter nurse if you have it done now. You will have to spend a lot of time on your feet and I can tell you now that as an EMT some things like CPR or pushing gurneys can be pretty phisical stuff, a few pounds lighter might make life a little less stressfull. Good luck -
Poll - Democrat or Republican?
pilotlisa2008 replied to KariK's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That's funny because I would say I am a liberal republican. It would be nice it the in the middle were more respected. I can never agree entirely with one or the other, however I am irate about cirten current events. Any one going to DC for the 9/12 march? -
Good tips. I actualy don't have any recent photos of me. I realized this about two weeks agoe, It occured to me that I am a camera ducker. If I do have a picture it's because I was drunk and a friend ambushed me. They arent pertty, and I only have a few of those. I think it's sad I plan to print out that halloween picture of me and slap it on the fridge. Maybe in the future I won't always be behind the camera. It realy is odd, I have family photos and friends photos, but only one of me for the last 3-5 years and i was in a costume, My mom only has a hand full of me past age 13, she said I deleted them all, or refused to be in them, not a coincidence that is when I started getting chubby. We do have an obligatory wedding album, although I dieted before and was also in a body girdle and a tone of make up mmmm..... Banded 8/05/09

worried band is not working :(
pilotlisa2008 replied to dione's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well weeks 4&5 said regular foods, I may have rushed it a little, but no problems with processing, I have had rice too, and raw veggies which were supposed to be last. I didn't mean to rush, clearly I have food problems, controll problems, probably an addiction to said food.... I don't know what Im' doing half of the time, I'm just trying to do my best. I figure the swelling has gone down and I have very little restriction. I don't even know if there is any Fluid in there. My Doc did things a little different, I got on the plane and headed home and was told to wait for the surgical report to take to the fillcenter. The report is to come in the mail. It didn't so I called two days agoe and they said they would resend it. But I do have some cool pics of the Allergan band and a hernia he fixed while he was at it... Sorry it's 4:06 am and my mind is wondering. My point was that I thought I was takeing it slow and I have not vomited or productive burped yet. I think it's a little different for every one as to their tollerance for different things. I'm no MD though and If I'm doing any thing dangerous, please call me out on it, cause it was crazy expensive and I would hate it if I wrecked it because of a lack of patients. On the up side I do stop eating when full, and it is faster than before, and to be honest in the past I may have gorged and not felt full untill I reached that sick feeling, to be totaly honest the binging was realy bad pre op, I am realy glad to have this band. banded 08/05/09 -
Exercise frequency
pilotlisa2008 replied to susannah's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yo guys are great! I feel motivated now. I have been doing 3-5 10 min walks a week and 2, 10 min on the stationary bike so I try to do something every day, even though it's not much it's better than none. I am a real lump when it comes to this type of thing and I want to get better, I never want to be one of those women that says I lost x amonunt and then gained it all back. If that was the case I could and have done that with out the band. I am cleared for real exercize next week and I am actualy looking forward to it. better dig out my old knee brace and sport bra.Who knows where that knee brace is? It's been a while..... -
Ok I am lost, I am not cleared to do real exercize untill next week, but I would like to try this. a friend sent me a link for couch to 5k and It sounded good and I did it for two days and then back to my wicked ways. Now post op I am looking for a way to jump start my weight loss. How ever I do have some joint issues and I was never what you would call an atheleet. So how do you keep motivated? I have found that the last umpteenmillion times I have started a program the gym works better than out doors, but after what ever time period I stop going. I told my husband we were going to try out a few gyms next week and he is behind me 100% but how do I get on my own team? Any wisdome would be awsome. Thanks Banded 08/05/09

What and How much do you eat?
pilotlisa2008 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all I know it's a personal question but I am a little lost, My Dr sent me home with a list of post op foods and general instructions but no real structure. It was an out of state thing, for financial reasons. I was banded on 08/05/09. I lost about 12lbs almost imiedatly. then I tried the mushy foods, all went well, now I can eat what ever I want. And no weight loss for a week and a half. I try to eat slow and stop when full. I was also wondering about eating and drinking at the same time, I find it hard to not have a glass of Water or tea with food. I know I need to exercize some self controll, and exercize in general. I try to eat my protien first, I get wierd headaches if I don't take my vitimin and eat my protien, but I wonder if I am eating too much. My eating goes something like breakfast; one egg, or yogart or a couple of pices wheet toast, Lunch: Soup or chicken salad no bread lettuce scoops,Dinner; half of a small chicken breast then a few bites of veg. for snack; soup or yougert, or cheese grits. Ok that looks like a lot. May be Its because I havn't been filled yet, that happens on 9/19. Any advice would be great, I feel a little lost, and like I'm just trying to figure out whats what. Oh and if you guys have recipies to share thats cool too. -
What and How much do you eat?
pilotlisa2008 replied to pilotlisa2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you every one, I feel better now. Reading this and other threads has been so helpfull. I realy can't just drive over and see my Dr any time I want, I guess I can phone if it gets serious, but I know things are moving in the right direction. I just get a little overly concerned. I need this to work so badly, not only because of the price, but it's time to reclaim my life, I have a lot to do that health issues related to being to heavy won't help. -
Any one Banded 8/4/09 or 1st week of August
pilotlisa2008 replied to ToomuchRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat a regular diet now, banded 8/05/09. I do try to chew well, and eat meat first, then veg, then bread. the one thing that I don't do well is not eating and drinking at the same time. it's so hard. I guess they don't advise it because it will wash the food through and you won't feel full. I am just guessing. I have lost 12or 13lbs also post op. I can eat what ever Iwant but now I just eat like anyone else and I might have a quarter or half small plate. Which is good, because I used to eat enough for three any one elses. But I'm not loosing. I get filled 9/19/09. I am curious about exercize and how to start. I tend to over do things and then burn out fast. I have knee issues but I think I might like to try something other than walking short distances or 10 min on the ex bike. Next week I should be ok to start for real. I was told to wait a full month and ease in to it. -
wanna let my mind catch up with my body.
pilotlisa2008 replied to JENNIFER7375's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Mom had a Gastric by pass about 7 years agoe, and it freaked all of us out how fast her weight loss happened. it was like 100 lbs in five months. it was drastic, I think she has gone back to snacking and not exercizing and she has put on about 35 lbs but in total she went from 310 ro 320 down to 125 in less than a year and has skin issues and body immage issues. We all love her and are glad she si healthy, but watching how she had no controll over her weight loss and how fast it was was a major reason I got the band insted. I think it's realy great how if you like how you look at 150 and you feel good, no joint issues, no hert issues diabeties ect. you can hang out at 150 it's your choice. the other thing is it may give your mind a break from some stress and let your shrinking skin catch up a little. BTW I was an absolute booger from 13 - 20 , I was also a curvy then chunky teen, with attitude issues. now I call my mom every day sometimes more. She has been a great cheerleader for me. -

ok this explains alot,I still have questions though. I am glad I found this, I just startes a thread on this and similar topics, what and how much fo you eat. -
thank goodness I was getting concerned, I havn't been filled yet, and I am in the mushy food stage and gradualy adding solids. today I had one slice of wheet toast and though I broke off little bird bites and ate slowly ate with cheese, it went down fine, but chicken fills me up fast. I havn't lost this week and am constantly starving I was starting to think about how I get full fast but two hours later I'm starving. you guys have hleped, thanks
