Poll - Democrat or Republican?
L8BloomR replied to KariK's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow.... you sure got us "right wingers" pegged.... don't forget that we also like to kick puppies and starve old people.... Oh yeah, and pollute the air, rape the land and wreak destruction where ever we go.... Gotta love those sweeping generalizations.... sigh.... :tired -
Yes, and Bush haters will simply NOT find anything to like about the man, no matter how many times anyone here posts their reasons for supporting him! There is not even respect for the differences in our beliefs, just sarcasm---so disappointing. We supporters can post as many articles FOR Bush as you all can post AGAINST him. But what would be the point, at this point? This is the reason this smilie was created::deadhorse: I am tired of flogging.... knock yourselves out, guys.

Gosh, "peace out" appears to only apply to you and others you agree with? What is with the "Pollyanna" comment.... did I insult you? I agree with Jack on the fact that we see things a certain way based on our different perspectives. I can see that you are one of the people that can't get over the 2000 election, no matter how many recounts there were that showed that Bush won. Even if you can't accept THAT, then how do you account for the election 4 years later which he won by a larger margin than Clinton? OK, now that we established that you can't accept anything good about Bush, fine. But please at least accept that what you say about Bush's ability to "investigate pertinent issues" is your opinion....not mine and certainly not everyone else's. Say what you want, but allow others to state their opinions without being ridiculed, please.

and the "Pollyanna" one wasn't the post I got on my email....

Hey, has anyone experienced what I just did..... I got an email telling me that "Tanderson" has responded to my post on this thread, and letting me read what was posted, but when I went onto LBT to respond, the post isn't here. I have refreshed my browser a bunch of times. Tanderson, did you remove your post or is there something wrong with either my computer or this thread? Help?

Great post, Jack....and not one insult in the entire thing!! :clap2:

BJean, I answered this in my post just made to Carlene. No one can really know what is the correct way to deal with terrorists. We did nothing much in the 90s because Clinton treated each attack as a "court" issue, not a "war" issue. That obviously didn't work, hence: 9/11. Now we are treating everything on a "war" basis.... maybe this won't work, either. I don't believe we can just wait for things to happen to us, maybe you do. This is a debatable issue. I don't think we are "lemmings" for agreeing with our leader. We can't ALL act, we have to have someone act for us. As long as our leader was elected, we should trust them until we see that they don't deserve that trust, while keeping in mind that they see issues, evidence and problems in far more depth than we do or can. Bush apparently has never had your trust; he still does have mine. I am not a lemming or brain-dead, just as I would never consider you that for voting differently. But until I can be President and see all that ours does, I have to hope and pray that ours is doing the best he can do, and that goes for all presidents, regardless of political party.
-
Carlene, I hope you know that I was not making that assumption. I was only making the point that terrorists are everywhere, and that Saddam was not an innocent party to the murders of Jews and to American interests. As for uniting the Muslims--- yes, we have probably done that to a certain extent, but it is impossible to know how many would have hated us anyway, due to the long-time teachings of radical clerics and to the spread of Hezbollah and Hamas who hate all things "Jewish" and consider any friend of Israel as their enemy. It is a crap shoot, and I wouldn't know how anyone could determine the correct answer.

One more thought.... I found an old pre-WWII Life magazine that I thought was very interesting. There were a lot of articles in it about the war in Europe, and all the debate in the U.S. about whether to get involved. I found it interesting that the (Democratic) president was for it, and many others (including a lot of Republicans) were against it. Many of the same arguments for and against sounded like the ones being used today.... It brought to mind the old expression, "the more things change, the more they stay the same". Interesting, no?

Dennis Miller has an interesting take on the Iraq war..... He calls Iraq a "giant salt-lick for the terrorists in the Middle East", because "since there is no 'Country of Al-Qaeda', this brings them out to one central place where we can fight them." I understand why a lot of people are against the Iraq war, but I can't understand why those same people don't give the same consideration to the people who think it is necessary. I have a friend who moved to Israel 15 years ago, and she has lived with the awareness that every day, for many more years than she has been there, millions of children of radical Muslims living all around her are in training to become suicide bombers or to "kill a Jew" to earn their place in Paradise. And that they consider Americans the same as Jews. Saddam was paying suicide bombers' families for successful kills, and the 9/11 attack was planned many years in advance, in several different countries. Let's not forget all the other attacks on our military and our interests by many of those same terrorist groups. My Jewish friend, who was a "dove" here, has become a "hawk" since living there... out of sheer necessity. My BIL is a history scholar and retired professor. He still gives lectures on the Middle East, his specialty. He has studied the Koran, the old one, not the "cleaned-up" version used in the past few decades. The old one is still used in some Madrass schools and taught by radical clerics. This is the version quoted by the radicals....they don't "play nice" and they don't want to live in peace. I'm sorry, but they DON'T. That is not to say that all, or even most Muslims feel the same, and I am not saying that we shouldn't try to live in peace with all peoples. My BIL is very liberal in most things, but not in this....he believes that we have to face the reality of terrorism. That there are a whole bunch of people who really do believe that our way of life is an affront to Allah, and to please Allah they need to rid the world of us. That is a fact... what isn't so clear is how to deal with it. No one WANTS war. I don't believe that at all. But some think that fighting it now over there is better than waiting, while some think it would have been better to leave it alone or to get out now before it gets worse. I don't know the correct answer or even if there is one. I do try to respect all debate and opinions and acknowledge that there is no easy answer. I hope that others will give the same respect.

Geeeeeeesh, Green, are you OK? I left this thread many weeks ago and just now peeked in.... and was shocked to see you using language and expressions and name-calling that I have never seen you use before in your postings. You and I don't agree on much, politically, but you have always been polite and I respect your opinions. I don't see much of that here... is there anything wrong? I am not criticizing you, just concerned.

Connie, My son's friends also said their parents thought we were being too hard on our son. A couple of the parents even called us to tell us that! But hard as it was, we stuck to our guns.... and it was THEIR kids who later got into drugs, got into trouble, and dropped out of school.... I think especially since he has another year to go to the prom, you shouldn't feel bad for keeping him out of this prom. Remember, the tougher you are now (if justified---which this is), the easier it will be later. At least that was our experience!! Keep your chin up..... you WILL get through this! Karen

Connie, I am impressed with your determination to teach your son right from wrong, no matter what!! You just got some great suggestions and I just have one more thing to add. Don't let the pain of punishing your son get you down or make you waver. You have great instincts and are doing the right thing by "lowering the boom" now instead of waiting for the next infraction. My own son started to become a holy terror when he was a teenager, but my DH and I got some "tough love" advice and it turned him around completely. It was hard and he used the "I hate you" stuff so much, but we stuck with it. Out of his entire group of friends, he was the only one to graduate, to stay away from drugs, and to never get arrested. He is now 37 years old, upright and honorable....the finest man you could ever want to meet. He has thanked us again and again for being the only parents from his crowd of friends that cared enough to do the hard work of getting and keeping him out of trouble. As a parent, I don't think you can ask for better than that! Hang in there... you are doing great! Karen

Have a great time, Vikki!! Can't beat the smilies you put into your email... makes me feel the excitement!! Have fun!!! Karen

What a terrible experience you had, Misty!! Why are you having trouble holding down food, even with no saline in your band? Are you able to keep yourself hydrated, at least?? I'm glad you are feeling better now, but how awful to have to be hospitalized. :phanvan The good news: You will surely lose weight from this! The REALLY good news: You get COOKIES!!! :biggrin1: Karen
-
Kinda makes me long for processed food.... Don't like to think of all my "natural" food has to go through!! Tom, could your band be tighter from vomiting?? Can you drink hot liquid first before eating something to see if that will loosen things up a bit? Hope you feel better....must be awful to feel so weak with all you have to do around your place....:phanvan

Thanks for the visual, Tom.... I will use that when I am tempted to eat chocolate..... :heh: Karen

EXCELLENT, Cindy!! With all the worry that somehow Pres. Bush will "chip away" at our freedoms, I think it is easy to lose sight of how many of our freedoms WILL die if we lose this war on terror. So many people who think that the REAL evil is Bush or Republicans or conservative thought maybe never really think about what is really at stake. We are so used to having total freedom to do or say anything...yet where in any of the countries that have vowed to destroy us, (and that has been going on for many more years than Bush has been in office), do they have even half the freedoms as here? Gays are stoned to death, women beaten even in the streets. Women as property. No freedom to or of religion. We would not be able to have these kinds of discussions on LBT, even. Thank you for reminding us of what is really at stake... scary stuff.... Karen

JACK----INCREDIBLE POST!! You said so many things I was trying to say but couldn't find the words.... you are GOOD!! You said it ALL!!!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Sorry, but I didn't see anything satirical in the first half of your post. Picked it up in the last part, though..... loud and clear....
-
Sunta, although I don't agree with you politically, I usually think your posts are well thought out.... but this post totally disgusts me and I can't believe you could write such a terrible thing. I won't even address the Michael Savage issue, because unless you know for a fact that his audience is mostly Christian, which I don't believe it is, your argument there is simply mean-spirited and unfair. And if you really understood Christianity you would judge the message, not some of the flawed people within it. Christians are taught to love, respect and serve. Some don't do as they are taught. You will find those people within all religions, and in people with no religion. To call "many" Christians "bloodthirsty" because they liked the movie "Passion of the Christ" is to not understand that Christians are moved by Christ's suffering that he underwent for us all. It reminded us how much we owe to Him. To imply that we get off on watching torture and blood is just so far off the scale that I can't believe it came from someone on LBT. Your apparent hatred of some groups of people seems just so beneath you. I'm sorry that this sounds harsh, but I am sort of in shock at this.
-
Carlene, I said it before....you have honorable instincts and it must make your DH feel really good to hear you speak out like this. While he might feel he has to defend his friend, I know that inside he must feel wonderful to know how strongly you believe in the marriage bond. Keep it up!! Your DH will see the light about this guy soon enough...and treasure you even more.... Karen
-
YEAH, MARNI!!! Great news and a hopeful message for the rest of us!! I'm so happy for you!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Karen
-
Ohmygoodness.... where on earth do you see any post saying this...that we should always back our president in everything.... ALL his decisions, etc.?? I don't find that here or on any thread. Just because some of us choose to support Bush in many things, doesn't mean we never are unhappy with his choices or that we agree with everything he does. Hopefully, you do the same when the president in power is one YOU voted for!! Please, these kinds of statements, these sweeping generalities, do not help a debate. No one is trying to force anyone to like all things Bush does or is. But to hate or dispise him for everything is also wrong....
-
These are not facts.... Since there is ample proof (and video) of Bill Clinton, Madeline Albright, Hilliary Clinton, etc., etc., claiming that Saddam and Iraq was a threat, that he had used WMD to kill millions of his own people, I do not think Bush misled the country. If you listen to all sides of this, and to other news sources other than your usual ones, you would hear what we hear.... and see the tapes and transcripts of other conversations beyond what the liberal press prints. So what is "fact" to you is not the same to me. I can send links showing why Bush and Blair thought they had to deal with Saddam....even the U.N. thought he was a threat. So while to you it may be "cut and dried", to me it is not. So whose "fact" is right? We can do tit for tat all night. It still won't change anything at the end of the day.... Anyway, you are entitled to how you feel.... so am I. Again, if you are having fun, party on! As for me, I am going to bed now... tomorrow comes too early! :notagree
