I think someone should sticky this simply because it describes a PB So well . I was just banded and have not had a PB yet. I hope I never do . But MAN do i know what im in for now . Thanks to the OP for that description. Love Mindy -
Has Your Weight Loss Affected Your Marraige / Relationship?
coltonwade replied to mariaxoxo4u's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My husband and I have been married for almost 8 yrs. He is not the jelous type , I was thin when we met ( 130 lbs) . So he knows my "thin" personality as I call it, in fact he wants THAT person back , frankly so do i . Im not as out going and "Bubblie" as I was when I was thin. One thing I have noticed since I have lost some weight ( I was banded on 7-16-07 and have lost 27lbs so far) is that I no longer want to stay in the house and do nothing. He's not overweight. We have never been an "Active" family but I would like to start to be . He works out side so doesnt want to do a whole lot during the weekend and I do now . So we had a talk today that I want us as a family ( we have 2 kids ages 6 and 15) to become more active and get out of the house more, he agreed, I told him if they dont i see that becoming a big issue because im going to feel isolated from everyone else, and it will be the opposite of before. THEY Were the ones going and doing stuff and I was at home , never wanting to do anything cause of my weight . The boys and Hubby want to sit around and play video games alot ( they play world of war craft) and I want to just get out, I have a TON more energy al ready . Sorry im rambling LMAO Mindy -
New/making decision about doing surgery
coltonwade replied to Marlu77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Marlu, You will love this forum . I had my gallbladder out about 6 yrs ago , I wish I could have had them done at the same time LOL . I bet you are having a hard time in everything. I dont know alot about diabetes foods but I know a little. As for the gallbladder stuff, you should be ok for the most part if you stick w/ the foods you can eat w/ you diabetes. W/ gallbladder issues its important to stay away from greasy , spicey , type foods anything high in fat as well. So I would think you would be ok w/ sticking to your diabetic diet ? So hang in there , things will be ok . you will love this forum its great. Love Mindy -
OH WELL that is just GREAT ! ROFLMAO Thanks for the heads up . I'll be looking forward to that. :faint:NOT LOL Mindy

Do you find it difficult not to drink with your meal?
coltonwade replied to luvinke's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have had a problem remebering lately what time I finished eating. SO I bought a time that sticks on the fridge. I set it for 60 mintues when it goes off I will then get something to drink. I have a horrible memory thanks to some meds that in on for my migraines so the timer really helps Mindy -
Do you find it difficult not to drink with your meal?
coltonwade replied to luvinke's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This was the hardest thing for me to get use to as well. I was banded on 7/16. What I do is if im at home is I got some of those glasses that have the liquid in them that you freeze, sort of like beer mugs but they are plastic . I got them at crate and barrel outlet . Anyway , what I do is I put one of them in the freezer ( I dont keep them in there ) By time im done eating and its time for me to be able to eat the glass is cold and I poor what ever I want to drink in there and let it get cold. Its kind of an informal timer. Its just another habit i started to get myself out of drinking while im eating. When i go out i order a drink and sip it while im waiting for my food, when my food gets there I ask them for a to go cup w/ no straw. So its kind of closed off dont touch ... then I take it with me , usually by time i get home its time for me to drink it. At first if i had a hard time i would ask them to remove my drink from the table. The waiters looked at me like im nuts but it worked. You will get the hang of it , I personally just think ya have to find something else that " works" for you . Another routine . HTH Mindy -
I just saw this on my local news. remeber the 12 yr old from Austin that had Lipo done last yr ? Here parents took her to Mexico to get a band ? After seeing the reaction and the interview from her mom All I can say is STUPID ! Remeber the 12 yr that had lipo ? GUESS WHAT ?
coltonwade replied to coltonwade's topic in Rants & Raves
Umm lets see Ide have to go back and find the original story ... I think she was pretty over weight .. Lemme see . Says at age 12 she was 5'5" and 220 ABC News: 12-Year-Old Girl Has Liposuction the recent article says her weight is 193 which makes her BMI 31 which is probably a reason (That and she's 13) no one in the US would touch her. This article gives a little more detail. Pflugerville teen follows liposuction with Lap-Band surgery | News for Austin, Texas | kvue.com | Local News HTH Mindy -
Remeber the 12 yr that had lipo ? GUESS WHAT ?
coltonwade replied to coltonwade's topic in Rants & Raves
Kellie, I see your points and I agree w/ them for the most part. And I dont know that im not 100% against a teen having the band . For instance on Big Medicine there was a teen that Dr D agreed to do a band on . Like you said he said this boy would have a life time of yo you dieting and the weight he was now , he was on a path of being bed riddin I think the problem I have is that no doc in the US would touch her . Now I know people here go to Mexico to get banded but its not because ( in most cases i guess ) because US docs wont do it , its becasue of money reasons. My best guess is they said she was too young , So why not wait until she's older and more mature and will be able to be a better canidate and possibly have more success w/ the band ? Honestly most teens if you tell them " DONT Do this they will do it becasue you tell them NOT to .... I sort of seeing that happening w/ the band and this girl. The other problem I see , as you pointed out is the lack of follow up care and counseling she is going to get. I just see all kinds of problems w/ this . The fact that a 13yr olds mom allowed a TUMMY TUCK is sick if you ask me . And im a pretty liberal parent according to my friends who have children . The child i dont think is the issue she is just that a child , the mom I think is the issue in this situation . I Hope the child all the success in the world , I hope she IS mature enough to handle this awesome responisblity . But I know adults that are not . So I hope she does well Just my input Mindy -
I have PCOS so my periods are normally induced my provera. I usually do it every 3 months or so . I just had one prior to surgery , keep in mine my periods hardly EVER COme on their own . I was JUST Feeling better, stoped my heprin shots and was able to get around on my own and WHAM there is my period. I thought LOVELY just what I need now . I Hope you find out what is going on and its nothing. I agree w/ the others its probably an adjustment Mindy

Remeber the 12 yr that had lipo ? GUESS WHAT ?
coltonwade replied to coltonwade's topic in Rants & Raves
I dunno. Its hard to take her comments about the "Red tape " of the pysch evaluation and sleep apnea testing" out of context. She made it sound like even there was MORE testing that was done , she just couldnt remember the names of them all , what kind of mom doesnt know what all her daughter does to get approved for surgery ? Granted she may have been nervous. But those things were pretty clear cut . It doesnt take a whole lot of tape for me to see ignorance . Just my opinon though Mindy -
Remeber the 12 yr that had lipo ? GUESS WHAT ?
coltonwade replied to coltonwade's topic in Rants & Raves
First of all both docs that performed the surgeries on her should have their licensed pulled . The doc that did the lipo and the tummy tuck should because he performed it on the a 12 yr old AND because he went around after wards advertising it as a " weight loss Method Or tool" . Basically he did it because they paid him to do it . DESPICABLE TOTALLY . He disgusts me . I have a friend who wen to him and he talked her into more lipo than she wanted by saying " You really need work here and here she said she left there feeling MORE self conscious about her self than she did when she walked in " . The doc that did the lap band should be shot as well for doing this on a 13 yr old. Again Money talks and BS walks . He did this for money . I really think this mother needs to be investigated by CPS . She's allowing her daughter to get what ever she wants regardless . I agree the mom is not having her daughter take responsibility for anything . IF she has a compulsive eating disorder deal w/ THAT . Everyone in this situation makes me SICK . I knew when I first heard of this girl last yr this would happen , i knew she would end up w/ surgery I didnt know it would be this soon because I didnt figure anyone would touch her until she was 16 at least. I would ask your doc when he/ she gives the ok to "workout " for me my doc said walk the day after surgery . But no working out for until 6 weeks post op, no lifting anything more than 20 lbs for 6wks post op . So like others have said start walking now , Ask your doc though when he/she gives the ok for work outs more than that HTH Mindyh

Surgery Jitters
coltonwade replied to justwant2lose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree I would say the worst part was the gas pains up in my shoulder. I had one day like i said my 3rd day of surgery that was quite painful. I walked and walked around my house and up and around my drive way . Really it is not bad at all. Its going to be fine and what we are all saying and what your reading is the best advice, we have all been through it. Love Mindy -

coltonwade replied to justwant2lose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You know how after you give birth you forget how painful birth was at the time and you just remember the great parts of the birth and how wonderful it is to have a baby now ??? THATS exactly how getting the band is . At least for me. Even though its only been 3 weeks since my surgery I have forgotten the pain and I just remember the great part of having the wonderful band . I too am a control freak and the best thing i can tell you is if you trust your surgeon just give the control over to him . Being a control freak myself something that helped me is watching a lap band surgery , ( I also like the medical stuff so that interests me too ) If you havent done it if you think you can handle it it might help. Why u might ask ? Because you will KNOW what is happening . It helped me to know . If you dont want to know then dont watch . But I wanted to know everything. Anyway , I HTH Mindy -

I had a sleep study several yrs ago for my sleep apnea. Its a breeze a little weird to try to sleep w/ those wires attached to you but its fine for one night. You will see once you have your date it will fly by . I got my date and went " WAIT a minute Am i REALLY ready for this " LOL Then I couldnt wait . Let me know when your date is Love Mindy -
Banded Yesterday!!!! Questions already..
coltonwade replied to wanabthin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
my doc said no lifting anything over 20 lbs for 6 weeks. My friends daughter was over there the other day and shes' 15lbs , So I was just watching how much I was lifting her. I would say if she's under 20 lbs then your probably going to be ok. But you might want to double check w/ your doc. As for the hunger , I really was not hungry for about a week after surgery . Are you drinking lots of water ? I was constantly drinking after surgery . HTH Mindy -

Do a search for Kaiser , Look under the insurance responses, There is quite a bit of info on them . It looks like it goes either way depending on where you live and what policy you have . You can get some good info , My suggestion would be find someone in your area on the boards that has had luck w/ approval and tap into their resources on how they got approval . Good luck , I had to pay $12000 self pay for my surgery . I hope your insurance goes through Mindy -

I felt fine the day I came Home as well . I didnt sleep either. The 3rd day for me was the worst and only day i felt pain. I was up walking around my house all week. As for hunger ,,, I didnt really get hungry until the saturday after my surgery and I had surgery on Monday . I made sure like Kermit said and drank all the time .. But hunger didnt set in until after about a week . The only time I has soreness or pain was like Kermit said getting up and down , I found that it went a lot better if I had my husband pull me up and I did not use stomach muscles at all. HTH Mindy
