Welcome , glad you found the site, is this "THE Answer" no , is it A tool that works , yes . Was it MY answer ? yes . can it be YOUR answer ? Sure. Although I understand what you meant I dont want people to think this is a miracle , has it been MY miracle so far yes, however it requires work . its not easy . For example I see a personal trainer 3 days a week, there was a girl there working out before me and my trainer said something about my up coming fill, the other girl said " that sure does seem like an easy way out to me " my response to her was " I dunno how easy is it , I had surgery AND im still here busting my ass working out just like YOU , so is it an easy way out ? " she pretty much shut up . :speechles Dont look at it as altering your life, look at it as altering your lifestyle to live forever !. it requires some change , but the band pretty much forces you into those changes and then they become habit , no biggie, it really has been pretty easy for me at least. I LOVE my band i tell anyone and everyone who will listen about my band. you can do it . research , research and research some more. You wont regret it if you get it . Love Mindy

my favorite cook book actually is called the Sneaky Chef, I got it for my kids but it works for me too. it has things like " spaghetti" with hidden veggies in the meat balls so your kids cant taste them, good thing is I CANT either . or cup cakes w/ wheat germ and sweet potatoes , you cant taste them , its easy to make , my kids love them and healthy . So i eat the stuff too LOL Mindy

I was told not to drink out of a straw, it can cause air in your stomach and cause your stoma and stomach to stretch . Similar to what carbonation can do . Jettti..... You might want to get in writing what the nutritionist suggested , show it to your doc and see if there is anything he wants you to change ? that would be the best bet i think ? Mindy

Most likely no , i cheated on my 2 week pre op diet , i was high protien low carbs, just get back on track. My doc said my liver looked fabulous! , it shrank just fine. Next time, take your own food with you . But get back on track NoW LOL Mindy

Why can I eat???
coltonwade replied to justwant2lose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes but its natural sugar, from the fruits, plus when your getting NO calories for nearly 8 days post fills, I could care less about sugars, or no cals from post op . its worth it Mindy -
I think its a good idea if a nutritionist will over see it. I think that is an important part . the eating well after WLS cook book would be better if it had more " common" recipes, if they took less time to prepare . I am a mom of 2 boys, a wife , a company owner, i need healthy quick recipes that book just doesnt cut it . Mindy

did you consult your doc about going to another nut before hand ? if I were you i would make sure before hand . Bascially they go over what your suppose to eat how your doctor wants you do eat after surgery . that's why im a little surprised your doc would allow you to see someone other than who he works with . they tell you how to eat post op , how many times a day , what foods have more Protein , how much protein , that kind of stuff. It really is ( or mine was at least) doctor specific. Just my input Mindy

I have a serious but kind of gross question!
coltonwade replied to cookielover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Amy , I really doubt you did any damage, but I would call the doc just to make sure. trust me im sure they have heard it before. they wont think you are silly or anything, its better to be safe than sorry . HTH Mindy -
I'm going to have to force myself to eat.
coltonwade replied to anonemouse's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i have to do the same thing and still do the same thing. My doctor allows me to eat 4-6 times a day so I usually eat about every 3 hours . Im getting better but I was having a hard time getting in 1000 cals a day It was usually more like 8-900 . I started using sparkpeople.com to track what im eating to see how many cals I get in . that helps. planning helps too , meal planning. I basically eat when im hungry . HTH Mindy -
I would say it is some "speciality type stuff" i dont know if it is things you could not get at your local HEB ? for instance here are some of the recipe names... Bluefish w mustard horseradish glaze Pork Tenderloin w/ fresh plum sauce asian turkey filled cabbage dumplings Mandi , did you order the book already ? if not your welcome to my copy to see if you like it . Mindy

I ordered this book too and really the food is not " everyday " type food I would normally eat. I guess some people eat it but its not for me . I can list some of the recipes if ya'll like ? Mindy

for those of ya'll on liquids post op , or any time really you have GOT to try these, my friend told me about them and OMG are they good, they do NOT taste like your regular ' Protein shakes , each bottle has 29g of protein . the chocolate one tastes like a frappacinno from starbucks. Im in LOVE with these now and the fruit smoothie ones are YUMMIE . <br /> <br /> Bolthouse Farms "Juices"<br /> <br /> They will fill you up , im on my post fill diet , liquids for 6 days ( I know its extreme but it works so i now live on these. <br /> <br /> HTH<br /> Mindy PS not all of the beverages have 29g of protien so make sure you choose the right ones, they will say "whey protein " on them . -

I paid $4K cash and financed the rest I financed mine through Medicredit , If I remeber correctly My credit score was around 625 at the time and they pulled equifax ( I can check on that for sure ) to check your credit, they do not pull all 3 credit reports everyone uses someone different. There is also several others, But Medicredit financed me even with a bankcruptcy less than 2 yrs old on my credit , so I would have to say they are one of the "easier' ones to get financed through . My interest rate is HIGH though its like 20 something percent BUT if I Pay it off in the first yr any interest I pay will be refunded, so basically interest free if you pay it back the first yr . There is also CareCredit Patient financing Payment Plans for LASIK, Dental and Vision Financing Cosmetic Surgery, Dental Procedures, Vision Costs and more: Healthcare Financing monarch finance group There might be a few others I can find as well. Let me know if you need any help. what i would suggest is go to myFICO - FICO Credit Scores; Get a Free Credit Report Online with our Score Watch Trial and pull your fico scores. You wont get your actual FICO Scores unless you go to myfico.com . Pull your scores and find out what they are . If they are anything above 600 you should be good to go . If they are below 600 I can tell you what to do to get them up enough to get a loan . I waited so long just to get financing . It wasnt until I fixed my credit that I was able to get my band . I know how frustrating it is to have to wait. Let me know if I can help you in anyway , this group has been so helpful to me i enjoy paying it back anyway i can HTH. Mindy

I have not read all the posts but I skimmed thru them so forgive me if this was covered. But It sounds like your doctor needs to be more involved in your care. Even if your seeing a PA he still needs to over see the care of his patients, why after almost a yr you said ? Or the first fill is he just NOW going through your chart and looking over your progress ? That should be done after EVERY Visit even if its done w/ a PA . A PA is just that an ASSISTANT to the Physician NOT A physician , therefore the MD still has to over see your care. <br /> Had he done that he would have seen your progress as it progressed and what you have been doing all along and it might not have seemed so drastic to him ? . I think maybe you need too make a point to maybe SEE the doctor every visit even if you see a PA and at least take a few mintues to speak to him , even if you cant do a whole visit w/ him or do every other visit with him so hes involved with your care a little more. <br /> <br /> Just my input <br /> <br /> Mindy PS I also wanted to tell you that you are doing a wonderful job and you should not let your doc or anyone else make you feel bad for the wonderful progress you have made ! Keep up the great work .

My mom does the same thing in a different way . Shortly after my surgery when i got on solids we went to eat at a burger place, I ordered a chili cheese kids burger w/ no bun and had 2 onion rings from my sisters plate. My mom says " SO you can eat that " I told her " I can eat what ever i want , the fact of the matter is THIS IS a better choice than what i would have made 3 months ago which would have been a regular burger and ALL of it and a WHOLE order of onion rings " I tell her ' YOU worry about what your eating and i'll worry about what im eating. I do find alot of it though is curiosity , my mom is surprised i can eat relatively "Normal" and still loose weight . which i can understand . But i still hate it . Hang in there and tell em to mind their own business LOL Love Mindy

Ok so tonight im moving into semi solid foods after my first fill, and i was hungry not paying much attention ,i thought i wanted some cheese w/ some cream cheese on it . I took 2 bites not very big and decided i didnt want that . then i saw some milk and thought " i'll drink that " OMFG BAD IDEA " as SOON As I drank something this HUGE Pain shot across my chest and I began to what I thought was choke. I know this I COULD NOT BREATHE. My husband heard me and comes running in and started to do the hemlic i stopped him. IM GUESSING THIS IS why they tell you not to drink right after you eat something . Either that or im probably tighter than I thought ? Since im just now starting to get into food ? I did puke up a little slime , I guess I got stuck ? My chest is a little sore im going to go on liquids again tomorow , GREAT On my bday . Any ideas ? Thanks in advance Mindy

I noticed a change in my tastes the right after surgery , I had heard your tastes will change but I thought it would take a while. Sweet things like popsicles were WAY too sweet , tea (unsweet) tasted like coffee grounds. in fact the one day i had a mental break down was the day i could start things like creamy Soups. I had dh make me cream of potatoes Soup. I was all ready for it, when i tasted it I about threw up . It has changed back a little bit but things still taste strange some times. Sweet things still taste REALLY Sweet !!! HTH Mindy

Giving up smoking..........
coltonwade replied to toots2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The other reason for quitting smoking is because smoking causes your blood to thin . Smoking also slows down the healing process. I was a smoker for 15 yrs and quit a little over a yr ago for surgery ( i thought i was going to have it before I did ) I quit cold turkey and using nicotine patches. Like someone else said the first 2 weeks are the hardest , once you get through that its a piece of cake. I feel so much better not smoking and now having lost a little weight post op ( Im almost 6 weeks post op and 27lbs down ) I feel REALLY WELL. GOod luck you can do it . Mindy
