I agree with everyone else sounds like you need to commit to yourself , commit to taking care of yourself. And honestly I dont think a doc closer to you has ANYTHING to do with it . I think its an excuse you have told yourself. But if you think it will help then do it. But NOTHING Is going to help if you dont want this for YOURSELF. I would suggest counseling though . It sounds like a good idea. Good luck Mindy

Mexico versus US for cash patients
coltonwade replied to socaldixiegal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was self pay , wanted to stay in the US . My surgeon was Dr Jorge Rincon in San Antonio TX . his price is $12,000 includes fills/aftercare for the first yr. Price includes everything except pre op testing which runs about $600 . Cliick on my Sig line ( my fill info ) and it will take you to his website. Dr Rincon is AWESOME. I Highly Recommend him . I agree with you. I knew sodas and smoking were going to be REALLY hard to quit. I gave both of them up nearly a YEAR before surgery . I thought I was going to have surgery at one point in time ( even then i gave smoking and sodas up what what have been close to 6 months before surgery ) and ended up having surgery the following yr , this yr . I did not want to be worried about either of them anywhere near surgery . And I think your docs answer is probably the reason for most pre op diets, to shrink the liver and "test" your level of commitment . Mindy -

I agree , I dont see the point in it either. Im glad my doc did not require it. one of the reasons I chose him . It sort of proves for those of us who go on low carb high protein diets to shrink the liver and the ones that go on liquids , when the livers are shrank the same , that its not needed. Personally I think the docs do it to see if we will comply post op . Which if that's the case I understand but say that ! Mindy -
totally agree with Gayle, You will feel like you can eat " normal" food and normal portions. Like she said , Just because you can doesnt mean you SHOULD Mindy

Well, I agree w/ you to a point, I think it depends on where your at in the process maybe . At the time pre op SURE seemed hard. and a lot of people seem to have ( in my opinion ) a hard time sticking to pre op diets. I do agree with you about restricting caloric intake, I find it SOOO GOOFY for people who are banded and then say " Im on the Atkins diet or some form on diet" What is the point of getting a band if your going on a diet or restricting your intake ? I dont watch my caloric intake other than making sure i get ENOUGH calories in . My doc is good about being flexible with my post fill diet and was with my pre op diet, i wouldnt have gone with someone who wasnt so , I agree with you as well on that , she should talk to her doc about something that is doable for HER. So I think im agreeing with you LOL Mindy -

coltonwade replied to Whatnow24's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I kept thinking that too I didnt have to do a liquid only diet i had to do a low carb high Protein diet and I was really hungry on that, so i cant imagine doing all liquids. Although I do have to do 6 days liquids post fills, something i would NEVER Think i could do . I was VERY Worried about my liver and i cheated twice in 2 weeks. nothing major just one meal . So 48 hours before surgery i went on all liquids instead of 24 hours. My doc said my liver was fine. It does get easier and I agree with Happy Camper, mix it up with something else , if you can have Soups do that, soup for some reason makes me feel more like im "eating food" Mindy -

A lot of it is head hunger. Look into what others have been able to do as "liquids " and what your doc allows. KEEP DRINKING keep fluids in you that helps A LOT . Post op is easier, its not that its not hard at times however, i wont lie to you . It gets hard , but you also have the fear of not wanting to mess things up . Also keep in mine post op you have NO RESTRICTION until you have a fill, so dont fool your self into thinking " I will have the band to help me right after surgery " that's not really true, you have to be realistic. Drink the optifast as often as you can . if you can have other Protein drinks such as boost or add Protein powder to drinks do that. Drinking Water all the time helps. Things like Spaghetti sauce is considered "Liquid" for my doc. you CAN DO THIS . It gets easier keep your eye on the prize mindy -

Sorry I dont think this is fair. We all know pre op diets are harder than post op , or at least they are for MOST of the people on this board from what I have read. I dont think that statement was fair to say . Does she need to know NOT To do this post op YES. Does she needs to know it gets a little easier after surgery becasue the fear of screwing things up are there YES . Just my input Mindy -

My doc uses flouro for my fills and I still got too tight this last fill and had to have an unfill 3 weeks later. Mine didnt really affect me for over a week. Mindy

You will have to ask your doc, docs are different typically its 6 weeks post op. You have no restriction right now , so nothing is going to keep you feeling " full" other than what you eat. Your GOING To feel Hungry , that's just the way it is right now. follow your doctors orders. what I did because i was allowed to per docs orders was I ate when i was hungry , i actually found i was not eating ENOUGH . So keep that in mind. I was stopping myself before i felt full because i was afriad of messing something up . So if he lets you eat more than 3 meals a day , like 3 meals plus Snacks eat that , eat as often and as much as you can and drink liquids. Hang in there until you get your fill. Its not a magic band you have to hang in there for a while. MIndy

first fill on 11/8/07 weird stuff happening
coltonwade replied to magooz07's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First off, you cant compare yourself to anyone or everyone else. You are an individual and your loss will be different than everyone elses . The gym will help your right. About your restriction , how big of a band do you have ? If you have a 10cc band then 6cc's might be right . But it takes time for the restriction to kick in , it also takes several fills for you to find the proper restrcition . If you just had your first fill it sounds like some patients is what is in order. it all takes time. As others say "the weight didnt come on over night its not going to come off over night" IF you are getting the "golf ball " feeling in your throat for me that is my " your full stop eating " feeling and that is when I know to stop eating . If you feel that feeling stop eating. If you feel that AND you have saliva come up and you food comes up and you throw up THAT Is pbing. PBing nothing more than throwing up really . IF you can not eat solids with out geting that feeling AND the saliva coming up or throwing up your too tight and need an unfill most likely . BUT since you just had a fill sometimes after fills we need to focus on the rules again , make sure your chewing your food, taking small bites and eating slowly . If your having problems with the fill call your doc. HTH Mindy -

Did you look on her site ?? Mindy -
I follow the same rules with drinking, I found if i wait 30 mintues to drink after a meal i will get hungry faster and sooner. So i wait an hour after i eat. I do drink right up until I eat ( more so when im eating out and then I do not even drink half of a glass , usually half of half a glass LOL ) But if I drink after an hour of eating I stay full longer . HTH Mindy

Here you go : I agree with the others and think you should see your doc . but here are the symtpoms . Mine were a little different than some of these , mine felt more like labor pains LOL . HTH Mindy SYMPTOMS OF GALLBLADDER PROBLEMS People can go for years with digestive symptoms and never realize that they may be related to a gallbladder problem. That's because they are so inter-related with other digestive symptoms. Constipation is one of the most commonly missed ones. The list provided here may be related to gallbladder but bear in mind that it could also be something else. The first four mentioned I feel are most indicative of gallbladder issues. It is not necessary to have all or many symptoms to have gallbladder problems but the more you have from this list, the more confirmation you have that the gallbladder is involved. Please note that it is still adviseable to consult your doctor for an acurate diagnosis. Gallbladder attack symptoms are listed below and again with more explanation separately on thehome page. Pain or tenderness under the rib cage on the right side Pain between shoulder blades Stools light or chalky colored Indigestion after eating, especially fatty or greasy foods Nausea Dizziness Bloating Gas Burping or belching Feeling of fullness or food not digesting Diarrhea (or alternating from soft to watery) Constipation Headache over eyes, especially right Bitter Fluid comes up after eating Frequent use of laxatives GALLBLADDER ATTACK SYMPTOMS Please note that if you are in severe pain and particularly if your attack symptoms are accompanied by fever DO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY. The following symptoms are typical of a gallbladder attack. Moderate to severe pain under the right side of the rib cage Pain may radiate through to the back or to the right shoulder Severe upper abdominal pain (biliary colic) Nausea Queasiness Vomiting Gas Burping or belching Attacks are often at night Attacks often occur after overeating Pain will often but not always follow a meal with fats or grease Pain may be worse with deep inhalation Attacks can last from 15 minutes to 15 hours I J Sarfeh, D A Beeler, D H Treble, and J A Balint J Clin Invest. 1974 February; 53(2): 423-430.Studies of the hepatic excretory defects in essential fatty acid deficiency.

OH that is good you found the allergy before a surgery . I did not know mushrooms(fungus) were in anesthesia . I think there was just something similar to this on Greys Anatomy the other night, the guy was allergic to anesthesia, so they couldnt give him heart surgery .
Thanks for the info ..
Mindy PS Im really sorry you have the allergy so bad though . -
