Everytime I have a fill I have to drink the barium swallow. I dont find it that horrible though. mine tastes like Milk of Magnesia . Is the consitancy of it as well. I dont have to drink but a few sips of it . I only have to take very tiny sips , and a few at at time and im good. but I do have to do it , if your doc uses Flouro for fills your gonna have to suck it up and drink it . Think of it as milk or something. HTH Mindy

Nuke how many CC's does your band hold ? Thanks Mindy

Each doc is different, I would call the doc in the am and to be on the safe side only drink something. My docs office does not allow any food only clear liquids before a fill . But others allow you to eat before a fill. So If you can try to call even if its on the way . My fills are always at 3pm to i cant eat anything all day long on my fill days HTH Mindy

How many of you felt you might fail at first?
coltonwade replied to SueSue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sue Sue, Also please do not feel like this is your fault either. if anything you may want to consider a new doc. I think your doctor has done a real injustice to you if he truely did not give you the proper diabetes education you needed to manage your health. If you feel you can not get that education then you need to find another doc. HTH Mindy -

Your a diabetic ON Insulin and you do not know how to use it ? Then you need to go to your doctor and tell him you need to learn EVERYTHING about diabetes and insulin . Do not take this the wrong way but as a patient you HAVE To learn to advocate for yourself. If you do not know how to do something you HAVE TO speak up ! How long have you been on insulin ? Mindy -

Sue Sue, Im not sure if you need any suggestions for new things to eat. But I just bought the biggest Loser cookbook , it has recipes that come from the show, they are REALLY good, and really simple ! Im not much of a cook but I really like this cook book. Just thought i would mention it . Im not sure how diabetic friendly it is but it might be worth a look ? Mindy -
If your paper work says at week 4 start a new stage then that is what I would do . I know the new stages can be scary . They were for me . And I know you probably want to make sure your doing the right thing, i was the same way . There is no reason to stay on the stage your on now if you do not have to . But it wont hurt to double check what you think is right with your doc . His staff will/should know the regime as well . That's why some of us suggested you go ahead and call the office anyway . Carry a measuring cup in my purse? ADVICE needed...
coltonwade replied to MamaJava's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always ask for a to go box when my meal comes as well and i put half of it in the box. Before my first fill I really did not worry too much about how much i was eating . I ate until I was satisfied and did not worry much about the amount. Once you get restriction you will be able to eat much much less. If you are worried about it maybe worry about calorie intake ? Make sure your getting in ENOUGH calories, right now its easy to not eat enough espically if your worried about how little you can eat. After your filled your band will tell you when enough is enough . Until then try the using your fist as a measure or a deck of cards if you want to measure ? HTH mindy -
Steph, do you use something like sparkpeople.com to track your food intake ? I dont normally track calories ect. But I do use it when i slow down on weight loss to see where I am at . You might want to try that because it will show you if your getting in enough protein , calories, ect. I have a hard time with the slowing down eating as well. Its always a good idea to review the rules and I think we all have to do it from time to time. Also something else are you switching up your work out routine ? Sometimes your body needs to be confused with the work outs. Good luck let us know how it goes. Hope you see the scales move soon and no more pb's Mindy

Jack , I like your statement " since you have reached half your goal you are not in the failure category your in the freak out category " I Think that is where I am at now ! Thanks for that ! I needed to hear that myself ! Mindy -
NO she does not need to SEE her doctor. but my point was she has questions , she DOES need to ask her DOCTOR not the boards if she has questions. Someone is usually on call even if the doctor is out of the office . Doctors all have different instructions for reasons. This is not the place to be giving other people medical advice even with something as simple as when to start liquids mushies. People need to get into the habit of asking their doctors ! Mindy

I think its a good book if you like to cook , i found the recipes a little much for the Busy type person I am . I like quick simple recipes and I didnt find these to be like that. Maybe I need to go back and revisit them again . I have 2 kids and own a business so I dont have much time . I like quick easy recipes, If i remeber right this one had recipes like rack of lamb LOL not very quick. I bought the biggest loser cook book and it has recipes that have 3 or 4 ingredients and take very little time to cook . I'll have to give this one another look . Just my opinion Mindy

How much food do you eat at your sweet spot?
coltonwade replied to dustout's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sometimes its a very short time sometimes its a few hours. Im sure a lot of it is head games and I know its me thinking " that surely was not enough to keep me full so I SHOULD Eat more " So I do and pay for it later. right now I am pretty sure i need a fill i get hungry with in 1-2 hours of eating a good size meal . But the time i was speaking about was right after a fill when i could only eat a few bites. Thanks Mindy -
I agree your probably ok to start mushies. But is the ENTIRE office out of town ? Normally someone is in the office and they can answer quetsions for you > when in doubt ask the doc . Mindy

Try tracking what your eating . make sure your eating what you should be , make sure your not eating TOO many calories, make sure your getting ENOUGH calories. Not getting ENOUGH calories can cause you to stall your weight loss too. Are you exercising ? Go over the "rules" again make sure your following them . Are you taking small bites , are you taking 30 mintues to eat, are you NOT drinking when you eat , are you waiting at least 30 mintues to drink after you eat ect ? When was the last time you had a fill ? Are you sure your not too tight if your Pbing a lot . If your PBing constantly you need to give your stomach a break and allow it to heal . Call your doctor go over things with him/her or the nutritionist in the office that's what they are there for . PS DONT DO THE KRISPY CREME Thing , you will get STUCK and SICK and possibly Damage your band ! HTH Mindy

Which Dr. ????? San Antonio
coltonwade replied to ronwifey's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I just sent you an email . The best thing to do to see which doc is in your network is to call your insurance and see which names they give you . You will probably have to call them , Lap Band docs most likely will not be on their websites under Baratric surgeons , So calling is probably your best bet ? Or if you calling docs in the area and asking them if they take your insurance. HTH Mindy -
Just FYI I bought this book and I find it does not have a lot of " everyday" type recipes in it There was not alot of recipes or food in it that I would normally eat. So you might want to check it out before you spend the money to make sure you will eat those types of foods . Just FYI mindy

The best advice I Can give you , is if you have questoins about what you can and can not eat you have to ask your doc. So many docs have so many different policies you HAVE TO ASK YOUR DOCTOR ! If you feel your doc did not give you adequate post op instructions call him and DEMAND THEM ! That is your right as a patient, You should have instructions for the next 6 weeks of what you can and can not eat. As much as LBT is here for SUPPORT it is not the place or to replace medical advice ! My port incision's was sore for quite some time. Again though if you think your port incision is sore Ask your doctor about it. YOU paid GOOD MONEY for this surgery take advantage of y our doctor and call and ask questions ! HTH Mindy

How much food do you eat at your sweet spot?
coltonwade replied to dustout's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
For those of you who eat 1/2 to 1 cup of food plus small Snacks and have good restriction , did it take ya'll a little while to wrap your head around the fact that eating that small amount of food SHOULD be enough for you ? For instance, I was eating about a cup of food my last fill , I found myself thinking " that is not enough for me to be full " So i would try to eat MORE then end up getting stuck " I ended up getting a slight unfill because I was just not comforatable, I was probably a tiny bit too tight. I need another fill now , But im worried now if i get to the 1 cup meals again i wont b e able to wrap my mine around " this IS enough for you " does that make sense ? Does it take you a while to get use to that ? and does that amount REALLY keep you full ? Do you have to get over the head hunger still ? Thanks Mindy
