am I slipping??
coltonwade replied to KayleighsMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sort of agree that if its gonna slip it gonna slip . I believe that If your band will slip it will have a MUCH LIKELIER chance of slipping if you have not followed "orders" than if you DO follow them . No one scolds anyone like a 5 yr old on here ! UNLESS they act like a 5 yr old in my opinion !! There was a post on here ( I linked it in the beginning) that said something along the lines of " I cheated HA HA , I know people follow directions to a T but that's not my THING" So HA HA its funny she cheated and HA HA She's not going to follow directions . Sorry acting like that I WILL Treat you like a 5 yr old !!! If you want to act like a doctor because you know more than them then go to school for 12 yrs and BE ONE !!! But until then I Personally will follow what the man who spent half his adult life in school to learn how to do this says !!! I respect the fact that you said you did not follow directions but would not come here and tell anyone to do what you did. THAT irrtates the crap out of me when people say " I DID IT YOU Will be fine " So i apprecaite that you dont do that. thanks Mindy -

Oh well thank you . Im glad some of ya'll appreciate me LOL When I first came on this board i was not even banded yet. As I became banded I appreciated the honesty from the vet bandsters. I realize more so now than then JUST HOW MUCH good they did me . They would have done me NO GOOD by telling me what i wanted to hear not what i needed to hear . So i try to do the same. Sometimes its not easy to hear what is needed. Does not mean we are being ugly mean or hateful it just means its not easy ! Mindy -

If your too tight i would stay away from breads , rice and pastas. They expand in your stomach and cause you to get stuck It still sounds like our too tight. HTH MIndy

Hang in there and do the best you can to make the best choices. I do eat "Crap" on occasion and im ok w/ it . I dont feel guility when i do it . Why ? Because i eat pretty darn good the rest of the time. Do i do it every day ? Every week ? NO I Bet i do it 2 times a month . You can do it we all can ! Mindy -
Sounds good. Dont be afraid of unfills. I have had more unfills than fills due to a problem i have being very sensitive to fills . Unfills will get u to where you should have been w/ the original fill. Lots of times people wait too long to get unfills because they think it will be too loose then , That's not necessarily true. . Good luck hope it goes well Mindy

you are correct. If you follow your docs advice and they say solids at 3 weeks your not cheating . Bella I dont think made that clear when she said she ate pizza at 3 weeks post op , she clarified that later. Slip rates are rising for a reason . Personally i think if docs are differing from ANYTHING other than what the manufacture of the band recommends Is treading on thin water. But that's just my opinion on it i have nothing to really go on . I think the band makers have research to back up WHY they should be placed certain ways and why post op diets should be certain ways MIndy -

I agree we are all going to slip up and its so hard. But my point is DO NOT SLIP UP DURING POST OP !!! its SO IMPORTANT . Slipping up is different than going against medical advice during your post op diet . there is a HUGE difference ! Im not perfect I eat crap now i should not . THATS A SLIP !!! Or THAT"S Cheating. I guess i dont understand it or get it cause i was self pay or that's just not my mind set or cause my doc educated me enough or cause i read so much and knew how important that phase was for the life of your band ? I dont know but that never crossed my mind to not follow my docs orders. If you DO feel like you cant make it and need to progresse your diet at least call your doc and ask them if you can . A lot of times theyw ill allow you to go to mushies earlier ? Mindy -

I chose my surgeon based on his experience and his stats , which are little to no complications . The post op diet was not a concern of mine , i knew i would follow what ever he gave me becasue i was doing this to stop Eating as much food as i have in the past and to lose weight !! I believe ( i would have to go back and look for sure ) I was on liquids for a total of 3 weeks , full and clears . The way I look at this is as i said before. If you cant control yourself for 6 weeks post op ( really its more like 3 or 4 before you get on solids) and you cant follow doctors order for a few weeks to have a better quality of life then you reallly need to THINK before you have this surgery . People think , I'll get the band and i can eat what ever i want do what ever i want and things will be fine" NO you can can cause SERIOUS damage to yourself and your band if you over eat, constantly make yourself throw up and do not comply . chose your docs based on the stats not the shortest amount of post op diet, becasue I really honestly do not think that SHORT post op diets are a good idea. I have heard Dr K is very good. If i had known about him at the timei had surgery i mgiht have gone to him . But over all you HAVE To pick a doc that YOU think you can follow their instructions. Just be careful is all im saying . The "easy" road is not always the best road ! Mindy -
no the bigger concern is the fact they might be too tight ! They could loser their band , cause a slip , if they stay too tight ! Mindy

I think your weight loss has more to do w/ the fact that you have had it a yr and only had 3 fills ? AND it sounds like you have gone through A LOT in that amount of time . it does not seem like many fills at all for me espically if your not having any restriction . what size band do you have ? if YOU are not able to eat the way YOU like to eat , if solid foods are coming back up then i would say your too tight. Some people like to eat more of a softier diet but i do not i like to actually EAT , and eat solids. But Say you like to eat a soft diet and its coming back up and you cant keep it down , then i would say your too tight. USUALLY If you think your too tight you are. Are you having any acid reflux ? At the VERY LEAST call the doc to discuss the fill and how tight you are . Also have you kept track of what your eating ? make sure your not eating too many calories and that your eating ENOUGH . eating too little can cause weight loss to slow as well . HTH MIndy

Let me give ya'll some advice .. If you have to get a TOTAL unfill do NOT do what my dumb ass has done and eat like HELL . I have gained 8lbs since my unfill nearly 2 months ago and MAN is it not a good feeling. I have done it to myself . I could have gotten filled nearly a month before I did , because i was going on vacation I decided to stay unfilled while on vacation so i could eat what ever the hell i wanted. NOT SMART !!! So the moral of the story if you have to get totally unfilled be smart about what you eat , dont go nuts like i did . Now instead of 25 or so pounds to goal im nearly 35 !!! UGHHH . SMART Mindy REAL FREAKING SMART! I have my fill on Thursday THANK GOD . Because what people do not know is when you get TOTALLY Unfilled. YOu can eat like you do not have a band anymore. At least I can and THAT MY FRIENDS is a SCARY FEELING !!! :frown:

you are 100% right its the person's choice on what to do . I am curious at 3 weeks were you allowed solids by your doc ? Not trying to argue just wondering ? So many docs are different w/ their instructions now . Mindy PS I sent you an email -
am I slipping??
coltonwade replied to KayleighsMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im not trying to make anyone feel bad at all . You or the original poster. Its about what's best for the band , why we all get the band to begin with . For a healthier life. These "Cheating" type posts are more and more common lately and as someone who's been "around" for a long time its unsettling to read and to hear justification for people to continue to do it . My doc is strict on post fills and post op stuff. I dont know if the docs are getting more lax on patients or patients are just not taking it seriously ? Either way it worries me which is why i try to respond so "harshly " I guess ? -

coltonwade replied to KayleighsMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry That's not a valid argument . after EVERY fill I am on liquids for 6 days !! Then 3 days of pureed 3 days of mushies THEN Solids so for 12 days after EVERY FILL I cant eat solid food. I could not eat Solids for nearly 3 weeks post op . Did I/DO I WANT To eat solids YES DO I ? NO !! AM i Perfect or special ? NO There are MANY MANY Others who do the same. The fact of the matter is that for a few weeks out of your life you have to gut it out in order to have ensure the best quality of life for your band. Sorry I dont agree w/ your agrument !! Mindy -

coltonwade replied to KayleighsMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You give your band a MUCH better chance of NOT Slipping by following doctors orders ! My doc would FLIP THE HELL Out if he knew I ate solids at 3 weeks post op ! Yes you have to be aware of your body . But I am pretty sure that Inemeds "instructions" call for solids further out than 3 weeks ? No you did not give persmission . But its sort of like "permission" as a newbie when people see those type of posts and think " OH they did it I'll do it and it will be fine " Does that make sense ? I am quite sure that if you took a poll YES there are people that ate stuff they are not suppose to but im pretty sure there are more that did not ! Mindy -

Docs really should give more ideas for patients on what they can and cant eat. For instance on full liquids .. Spaghetti sauce.. NEVER Would I have thought i could have that , but if you think about it IS a liquid . Also there are things later on down the road that that I would eat such as hummus that i would never have eaten right after surgery . Mindy -
am I slipping??
coltonwade replied to KayleighsMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is my point. That after being banded for less than 3 months you do not know yet if you damaged your band at something you did 3 weeks out . And telling a newbie that you did that is just as much as giving them permission or the next newbie to do it ! The post op diet is for a reason . Its to allow your band to form scar tissue around your stomach so your band does not SLIP now or in the FUTURE !it does that by your stomach not "working" or churning from food too soon ! I dont think you can say or should tell someone else " Your fine" And i dont know many docs that would think a personal pan pizza at 3 weeks post op is OK !!!! Just my opinion ~!~ Mindy
