Bad bander, but curious question!! ha ha
coltonwade replied to Ebeth0013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have people tell me all the time they "tested" their restriction w/ a pizza or a piece of bread !! DUHHH Even after they have had a fill for a while and want to "see if " they still have restriction or see what lack of restriction they have they will "test" It . you "test" it by if you can eat MORE than you normally do . THAT"S testing it and telling you you need a fill ! -
Well " Lap band surgery is the best in the world " is an OPINION !! And why its better i suppose is a matter of opinion . If you ask a DS patient they im sure will tell you DS Is better. PERSONALLY I think its a matter of which surgery you feel you can be successful with . Best advice do your research and decide which surgery YOU think is the best ! Mindy

Yes its the barometric pressure. When the barometric pressure is high the band gets tighter . I thought it was nuts , but when I bought a Barometer and started paying attention to it. If the pressure falls below 30 i am tight. You can track the pressure online . So if your tight one day check the pressure in your area if its 30 or higher watch out for the day you will most likely be tight . HTH Mindy -

Lisa, Do not feel bad. its been a yr since I was banded and I still am trying to get the hang of my band. the band can be fickle , one day your tight the next day your not . one day you can eat a certain food the next day you can not eat that same food. I too would not change my journey and I have had my fair share of issue w/ fills and unfills. Mindy -

I dont get the comparison ? your talking about people who PUT Their band at risk because they are scared of not losing weight, because that is what happens when you keep your band too tight and you start to PB because of it. . Vs People who DO NOT Put their band at risk by following Docs orders because they are scared they DO NOT Want to screw things up ? I dont see how that is the same ? Am I following you or is it too early LOL Mindy -

Diva, The "Scared out of my mind" attitude is to thsi day what keeps me from doing things wrong, keeps me accountable i guess ? But I was SO worried to mess things up post op I followed everything to a T . Being self pay made me MORE worried to screw things up . In fact I had to be told to eat MORE because i was stopping myself before i should have from eating because i was worried i was going to tear, stretch screw something up . So the worried, scared part IMHO is a good thing. I still have it to this day to a point. HTH Mindy PS Dont stay in lurker mode come on out girly !! -

I wish everyone success w/ the band . If it was not for this board and this band I would not be 105 pds lighter in a yr than i was this time last yr. I also did not get here by doing it my way . I will support anyone willing to help themselves. Im sorry if "my way" seems mean . Its not meant to be . So Lets just drop this from this point and like smar said move on !! Mindy -

coltonwade replied to KayleighsMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sometimes a person needs tough love. I am not going to hold someones hand if they are doing stupid crap . Sorry not happening !! Just because you do not like my "approach" does not mean its wrong. I also beleieve different people require, needs different kinds of support.SHOULD a person be 100% ready and commited to have the band when they have it ? I BELIEVE SO 100% ABSOLUTELY! Does that mean they are not going to change things and its a slow process ? Of corse things will change. BUT I believe they have to be ready 100% to ATTEMPT to do this or dont do it ? Just my opinion what do i know ? Mindy -

coltonwade replied to KayleighsMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
U will see what with THIS post I did do that And Since i now talk to the OP Every day I WAS Supportive of her . In other posts when its a JOKE that they cheated and make jokes out of cheating I have no pitty . sorry that's just me. If your not going to take things seriously why should I ? And I wll say AGAIN Once you get PAST POST OP and you "cheat" I have no issue w/ that . MOST PEOPLE Slip up .. NOT EVERYONE DOES do i On occasion YES . I HAVE ISSUES W/ those who go against medical advice and eat BURGERS AND CRAP days , ect after having a MAJOR MEDICAL Procedure then say " BUT I CHEWED REALLY WELL !!! IF YOUR DOC SAYS TO DO IT YOUR NOT CHEATING I DONT HAVE ISSUES W/ THAT !!!! I HAVE SAID THAT OVER AND OVER . I DO NOT SUPPORT GOING AGAINST WHAT YOUR DOCTOR SAYS !!! PERIOD !! I WONT DO IT . WILL I SUPPORT YOU and tell you that YOU WILL BE OK IF I THINK YOU WILL BE OK YES . WILL I TELL YOU TO MOVE ON GO PAST THIS GO TO THE NEXT DAY YES AND I DO THAT . LOOK AT MY OTHER POSTS !!!!! BUt im SORRY if someone is making jokes out of this and saying crap like " HA HA I cheated HA HA Im do things my own way i dont follow orders " WHY SHOULD I Feel bad for them ? SERIouSLY ? WOULD YOU ? that's not the case in this case . And I will say again too . IF YOU WERE NOT READY TO AT LEAST MAKE A DAMN GOOD ATTEMPT TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE W/ this band then MAYBE It was not the right time !!! If you cant hold off for a few weeks and cant control yourself and follow doctors orders on what you can and cant eat then MAYBE it might not be the right time for your surgery !!! The people who CONTINUELY try to say "THIS IS OK " are the ones who are NEWLY Banded. Come back in a yr and see if you still feel that way !! im tired of people saying the TRUTH Is NOT SUPPORT !! I treat everyone on this board as I do my friends !!! HONEST and DIRECT Im sorry if its not what people want to hear all the time !! Mindy -

Also it does not have anything to do w/ having an MD or not . it has to do w/ those who have more experience . I am not sure why that is so wrong ? why is it not ok or wrong for some of us who are further down the rd to give advice, our experience to those who are just starting out on this road ? Im sorry but i would and did WANT that from people. I dont want someone to tell me what i want to hear I want them to tell me what I NEED to hear , i dont want them to tell me what i want to hear if im doing something that could possibly harm me ? HOW THE HELL DOES THAT DO ANYONE ANY GOOD ? I do not get why that is being HOSTILE , ugly , rude, anything but HELPFUL . If we all sat back , folder our arms and said NOTHING OMG do you know what would happen ? we would get " WHY DIDNT YA"LL TELL US ? Why would you not TELL SOmeoen not to do that ? Seriously ? dont come here asking , looking seeking advice and get pissed cause you dont like what you hear !!!! -
Bad bander, but curious question!! ha ha

1st fill, and not feeling much restriction
coltonwade replied to LeslieR041906's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here are a few things that I dont think people understand about fills or docs dont explain that might help : 1. normally you will not get restriction your first fill . In fact do not count on it and you wont be disappointed . If you do get it great bonus !! 2. Once you do get restriction from a fill IT WILL Go away , meaning as the fat around your stomach melts from you losing weight you are going to need ANOTHER FILL ! I think people think that once they get the fill and have restriction they will be fine and that's it .. its takes matienence to hold on to that restriction 3. restriction should not and does not "HURT" or "FEEL" meaning you should be able to eat a meal and not feel it go down or have it HURT , If your eating to the point of it hurting your eating too much THAT Is not restriction !! That is you eating too much ! 4. BE PATIENT !!! If you do not get restriction your first fill wait ! sometimes fills take up to 2 weeks to kick in and after your first fill you WONT KNOW That after 2 or 3 days. 5. The weight did not come ON Over night its not going to come OFF over night !! 6. Some days you can eat more than others , some days your tight as a drum others your not I had restriction my first fill . BUT I have had to continue to get fills to keep that restriction . Its not magic it takes time . Also I would say on a good restrition day i can eat around 1 cup of food at a sittting. Everyone is different every day seems to be different w/ the band in regards to what you can and cant eat !! HTH Mindy -
How did you come up with a "goal weight" or have you?
coltonwade replied to Laurinda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was 110 in high school , got pregnant at 16 gained 82 lbs , got back down to 120 and thought i was fat at both weights. I look at 110 now and I was SO THIN it did not look good at all on me . My doc said 115-130 I comrpomised at 125 LOL mIndy -
am I slipping??
coltonwade replied to KayleighsMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will say it AGAIN . the OP did NOT CHEAT I realize that NOW . If YOUR DOC Says solids at 5 weeks then YOUR NOT CHEATING . BUT if you eat pizza at 5 weeks and your suppose to still be on MUSHIES I have ISSUES w/ that SORRY ! I just do not have much pitty for those who "stray" (its not straying its not FOLLOWING DOCS ORDERS ) during that time and its AGAINST MEDICAL ADVICE !!! If you were in the hospital for CHEMO would you tel your doc you were NOT GOING TO DO IT ? NO its the same thing to me. For 6 WEEKS OF OUR LIVES OR LESS For some I THINK WE CAN CONTROL WHAT WE PUT IN OUR MOUTHS TO HAVE A GOOD QUALITY OF LIFE AND BAND !!!! Should i say this another 10 times ?? Mindy -
Bad bander, but curious question!! ha ha
coltonwade replied to Ebeth0013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry but you cant say its "ok" to cheat w/ liquids but not solids . cheating is cheating . If you call and ask your doc if its ok to move the diet and he says ok then that's one thing. for instance my doc told me IF I NEEDED TO because of my migraines I COULD start the first week w/ Full liquids instaed of clears. But i tried it w/ clears and I was fine so i did not adjust anything. But you cant say "I think to some degree you can "cheat"" NOT FOLLOWING DOCTORS ORDERS IS NOT FOLLOWING Doctors orders. You said yourself your doc is a center of excellence . Do you think it got that way by accident ? Seriously ? Or do you think it got that way becaue the System they have in place WORKS ? Not by cheating on liquids a few days early . Thicker Liquids churn your stomach more than clear liquids thats why docs do not want you drinking FULL Liquids straight out of surgery !! Sorry but that's just my opinion . You either follow orders or you dont . its not a half ass thing in my opinion . Mindy -
How did you come up with a "goal weight" or have you?
coltonwade replied to Laurinda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well get to 130 or 140 and see how you do/feel. i can almost bet you will get there and go " HUMM I can do another 5 or 10 pds" At first you cant imagine being under 200 , then you get there and its under 180 or 190 then its under 175 so taking it 10 pds at a time is easier less over whelming !! Good luck Mindy -

Take the weight 10 pds at a time. its more manageable that way at first. If you want/ need to set too goals that's do able too . -
How did you come up with a "goal weight" or have you?
coltonwade replied to Laurinda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My orginal goal wt was 140 . I was 140 when i met my husband and i was happy w/ myself , liked the way i looked. I got down to 160 and told my doc " I think i should start thinking abotu plastic surgery . He said " UMM NO You still have 35 more pds to lose ? HUH ? He told me ' whats the point of settling for 140 when your still considered over weight ( As Jachut said ) whats the poitn of HAVING the surgery to get healthy and STILL being over weight ? (Im only 5ft 3 ) I thought about it and he was right . SO NOW my goal wt 125 !!! I would have SMACKED Someone if they told me 125 was even POSSIBLE a yr ago . But its VERY Possible. My original goal wt was one i was "Settling "for too , it was "All " I thought i could do . So do not settle for your goal weight !! You had this surgery for a reason , to get healthy and not be over weight. keep that in mind I think when looking for a goal weight. You are doing AWESOME so far ! !! Mindy -
