Should I be worried ? Anyone who has had a slip ?
coltonwade posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ok I have been dreading this post ! First a little background. My doc discovered that I am VERY sensitive to fills due to an esphogial problem that I did not know I had caused from YEARS of throwing up from migraines. So .25cc's of a fill for me is like 1cc . I can get tight very easily and quickly. For the most part If i get a fill i find out im too tight in about 7 days go in get a slight unfill im fine. No biggie. IF I PB however I have a tendency to swell as well very quickly and it takes me a bit longer to recover than "norm" So to now, About 3 weeks ago i threw up pretty good. Got swollen went on liquids did ok for a few days , then started all over again ( put my self back on liquids every time i PBed , Finally called the doc on Monday , he said go back on liquids for 3 more days call me Wed if your not better. I did told him im good , can keep things down fine, He said progress to mushies, I did today , I PUREED CHILI and IM STUCK !! I basiclaly have not had solid food in almost a month now. Should i be worried i have a slip ? I have a call in to my doc , he is going to want to see me Monday , this was my second fill BTW ( last month ) from a total unfill ( From the same thing ) back in June ! Im very worried, scared and frustrated, Im only 20 pds from goal !! and now this ? Any thoughts ? Sorry so long Mindy -

Saw my doc yesterday . He checked my band NO SLIP and NO DILATION ! Everything looked good . He took out half a cc so that was good no total unfill , i told him " I AM prepared to kick and scream if you want to totally unfill me " LOL He laughed and said" Not needed " He told me when i am ready for a fill we will just do .25cc's . SO 6 more days of liquids and we'll see how it goes. Mindy -

First off i would drive the 200 miles and be seen . Second off i would tell the doc what the Nurse said ! taht's BS My response to her would have been YES YOU CAN THAT IS YOUR JOB !!!! I would call ask if there is an office manager and let her know what is going on and how you are being treated as well !!! I dont care if she's over worked or not ! Mindy -
I sent you a PM ! talk to you soon Mindy

I understand about money trust me . Honestly though , if your doctor is good , I do not know what i would switch . Good docs , and good fill docs are hard to find. And if you go somewhere else your doc may not take you on as a patient anymore. you might want ot talk to him before hand, see if you went somewhre else for fills if he's " ok" with that. Good luck Mindy

are you at or were you at your goal weight. Yes you need a fill. That is what the band is there for , but you have to use it . Not to be mean but there is no way i would have allowed myself to gain 20 lbs with out getting a fill before hand , unless there are circumstances where you could not get a fill for some reason . Your just causing a yo yo affect and there is no reason for it w/ the band . for instance, I get fills when i start to be able to eat a lot. Some people get them when they can eat a lot AND are not losing weight , some get them when they can eat a lot and teh weight loss stops. I chose to not weight for the wieght loss to even slow down and get them just when i can eat alot. Again it does sound like you need a fill . In my opinion , unless your at or near goal ( and even then ) there is no reason to NOT get fills when your gaining weight . Good luck Mindy

coltonwade replied to Losing_It_In_Texas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i still think ground beef is one of those things that you need to ask your doc if you can have or not . Its a go either way thing, i think if you puree it its better but i would still check w/ the doc ! -

Doctor in Austin Texas?
coltonwade replied to hopefortomorrow's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I know i am late on this , but if you are still looking , I used Dr Jorge Rincon , he's in San Antonio but only 45 mintues from Austin , he's awesome. I cant tell you how great he is . I looked into some of the austin docs and was not impressed, plus being self pay they were quite a bit more expensive than Dr Rincon . I am happy to give you more info if you like. His self pay price is $12,000 includes 6 months of fills and follow up care. his website is .: Welcome to San Antonio Weight Loss :. I am down 110 pds in less than a yr ( im a yr out now but I lost 105 in 10 months ) he's great !! Mindy -
Stomach Swelling& Reflux with Fill. Advice Needed

WOW they want to charge $600 a FILL ? Holy Crap ! Where do you live ? I dont blame ya then. I was just wondering about that . At the very least i would call and talk to your doc . W/ the GERD it might be something that is caused by that if your on meds your meds might need to be adjusted a bit , if your on meds then maybe you can start to get on it for the GERD. I would start by talking to your doc. Have yo spoken to them about a cheaper fill ? My doc doesnt even charge that much for patients he see's that were banded in mexico . that's ridiculous !! Good luck let me know if you need anything . Mindy -

Stomach Swelling& Reflux with Fill. Advice Needed
coltonwade replied to NeenBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You may need another slight unfill, What i consider my sweet spot and what others consider I think might be 2 different things. BUT what i consider is when I have decent restriction can eat solid Proteins comfortably and I am losing weight. HOWEVER that Sweet sport goes away as you lose weight. So just becasue you have not gotten there yet does NOT MEAN you cant get it back. Also you have had your band for 2 yrs and only had 3 fills ? Now as if your too tight or not ? the best thing to do is call your doc , I have ALWAYS found ( and I have issues too , I am VERY sensitive to fills i have had more unfills than fills ) that if I THINK Im too tight i probably am . BUT Slight unfills are not necessarily going to make you lose total restriction. So i would discuss it w/ your doc. Mindy -

Did your docs office give you a list of suggestions for each stage ? each doc has a different idea of what is ok . Its best to ask them . Email me if you want i can give you some more suggestions that might help ? Mindy -
I think you should ask your doctor to be more specific as to what he wants you on and for how long ? each doc is different. My doc requires 3 days of each phase (Clear Liquids , full liquids, mushies , semi solids ) after each FILL and unfill no matter what ) others require no liquids , others requires 24 hours and so on . So I think you should ask your doc to be specific ! mindy

something I have to get off my chest.....I HATE PCOS!!!
coltonwade replied to ThinDolphin3's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You do not have cysts all the time. I have had sonograms and had no cysts and I have had them and had as many as 110 cysts in each ovary , If you have a sono and have none go back a different time of the month and you will have them . Chances are they just never caught the cysts when you went in for a sono. Th eproblem is since people w/ PCOS do not know typically when the ovulate you cant go in of or a sono to check for cysts at the right times. HTH Mindy -

Just a quick update. I took my meds this am fine, that's usually a good or bad sign if my meds do or do not get stuck. My topamax is the size of a birth control pill so if that sucker gets stuck i have issues. And it went down fine this am ! So looks like i'll be in the office on Monday . Thanks for everyon'es help Mindy -
Who eats Carbs and is banded
coltonwade replied to coltonwade's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The same thing happened to me . I lost the majority of my sweet tooth ( I still have a tiny one lol) during my pre op and post op diet. Once i started on my "regular " food intake and had gone at that point 10 weeks w/ out "bad " carbs I realized how much better i felt and how little crap i craved. So i thought " Why start that again " . I realized just how TRUE that was when i was totally unfilled and ate the carbs again and felt like crap . its not for everyone but Its worked for me and I think its a part of my weight loss. Mindy -

thank you Susan , I really appreciate your input. I am very careful to not keep myself too tight. My last fill was 8-25-08 and I did not have any issues w/ it at all. And when i threw up it was not really violent but its the amount of times i have done it since then that concerns me. My other concern that I watn to bring up to him is that I do not get stuck , meaning when some people get stuck and stay stuck , I dont, I throw up . (PB) because of my esophagus problems, i just throw up I have to work and work and work to NOT throw up . SO I need to see if there is ANYTHING I can do to fix that ? Thanks again i'll keep ya'll updated !! Mindy
