My doc in San Antonio ( I live in Austin ) will take patients banded by others but he does not take insurance i do not believe. its Dr Jorge Rincon in San Antonio . I personally would have SW Baratrics review your records, As long as there is nothing wrong in there they should take you on a as a patient. I have a few friends that have gone there and are very happy w/ them. I would get your records to them ASAP ! HTH Mindy

okay I have exactly 7days b4 surgery and not doing well....
coltonwade replied to nikki_b335's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The " last super" syndrome is quite normal . I think most people do it . What people ( Myself included) do not realize before being banded is that you will not have to give up that much food , you will just have to give up the QUANTITY and what you DO give up you replace w/ QUALITY Food . As for the pre op diet. Picture this ,,,, Going in to the OR , expecting to wake up with a band, having been cut on and waking up with NO BAND . That is what will happen if you do not follow the pre op diet and you do not shrink your liver !! You will have gone through a Surgery for NOTHING !!!!! The pre op diet is hard, yes, its not easy , But its only for a short period of time, its not there to tourture you its there to help you not DIE !!! The shrinking of the liver is for a reason . its to keep the liver out of the way so the surgeons can see , so they do not KNICK your liver and cause a MASSIVE infection . IF that is NOT ENOUGH To keep you on track personally i do not know what will be . It was enough for me !!! Suck it up and get through the next few days, have the surgery and follow the post op diet to a T and then enjoy the rest of your life skinny !!!! Mindy -
Thanks for the comments on my pictures. Yep it felt AWESOME to put on the 6's the first time !! Even better when i put on the 8's and 2 weeks later they were too damn big LOL
Thanks again !

Start off good then get too tight...help
coltonwade replied to cantweight2go's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just thought of something else. If you happen to be on the pill. You could maybe get on the pill that you take that causes u to NOT have a period. Seasonal i think its called ? That might avoid the situation all together. HTH mindy -

Does your doc know you do this ? maybe u can talk to him about slightly unfilling you during your period ? You must swell really bad during the TOM ? You are risking slipping your band if you keep throwing up like that. Plus its not a good thing. If you have not already i would talk to your doc about getting slight unfills if not total unfills during your TOM . My doc is INSISTENT that you avoid throwing up at all costs. if you get the flu you need to get unfilled so this would be similar ? HTH Mindy -

Lyssa, I am sorry you are having a hardtime. I hope your surgeon can find something. The fact that you are wakign up w/ reflux seems to me that your either A still too tight or B have acid reflux that needs to be treated ? did you have any problems w/ it before the band ? I hope you find something out . keep us updated Mindy -
Good you can be my guinea pig and let me know how it is LOL

afraid I think my band has slipped
coltonwade replied to mommomgrandma's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I understand that , but I am relaying what nearly ever other doc says. you CAN SLIP YOUR BAND PRIOR TO A YEAR . ANd to think you CANT is reckless !!! Of course its best to stick w/ your own doctor. But its also important to relay accurate information . I understand this is what your doctor told you but everything i have read, this is just not accurate. Mindy -

afraid I think my band has slipped
coltonwade replied to mommomgrandma's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Slips CAN happen at anytime, espically if your not following the rules ! So do not let the"Mostly later" give you any form of security , if your not following the rules and your throwing up you put your band in danger at ANY Point. And depending on your band, the placement ect ( and IF YOU followed rules during Post op diet ) it might not take A LOT of throwing up to slip your band. Too tight does not have to be you cant swallow your own spit either. When i was totally unfilled I was able to keep liquids down . -
I just thought of something.....
coltonwade replied to Cleo's Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you get the stomach flu and your throwing up you need to get to your band doc ASAP and get an unfill ! Throwing up should be avoided for any reason when you have the band. it WILL come up through the band , i will tell you when I THROW Up throw up , and not just PB It hurts like a SOB . But it will come up , that's why you have to get to the doc ASAP and get at least a slight unfill most will totally unfill you if your throwing up often . I have to have a constant supply of zofran due to migraines, i throw up from them . So I have it on hand all the time. HTH Mindy -
Honestly I was not ever a binger , However I had a total unfill in June and I have NEVER EVER been so hungry in my life. I was hungry ALL THE TIME . I could eat a FULL meal and 30 mintues later eat ANOTHER ONE . I was always a grazer. But i remember thinking " If this is how i was BEFORE Surgery NO WONDER I GOT FAT " But it has been so long i cant remember. But i agree w/ you I dont think its all in our heads i think part of this is physical . Mindy

How long before you ate lettuce salads?
coltonwade replied to grannytwinkie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I dont eat a lot of salads becuase they are sort of empty calories to me. Unless you load them up with a lot of crap , that contain Protein they are a waste as my nut calls them . They do not contain protien so they are not going to keep me full. So i generally do not eat many , unless its w/ a meal maybe. HTH MIndy -
OMG I am laughing in real time over the licking the drive through window. THAT IS GOOD !!! And your right it is actual hunger . I actually just emailed the OP and told her the key to not beign as hungry is protein ! Drink as many of those shakes protein what ever it is you can get as you can are allowed ! First day does suck a$$ . Then it is almost as if your stomach goes numb LOL Mindy

Honestly , I am sorry this is going to come out rude ... That is THE WORST ADVICE I HAVE Heard given on here in a LONG TIME !! You just told someone to go AGAINST HER DOCTORS ORDERS and screw it , they dont know what they are talking about . Just like the POST OP diet has a reason so does the PRE OP DIET. DO you think they just want to TORTURE US ? THERE IS A REASON . THE REASON ? To Shrink your liver so they can A. SEE It and get to it. B. Its out of the way and they do not nick it and Bile does not POISION YOUR BODY and you DIE !!!! SO YEAH SURE GREAT ADVICE THERE !!! Are you KIDDING ME ? is it hard YES ! IMPOSSIBLE ? NO !!!! Is it easier after surgery ? YES . My docs post FILL Diet is 3 days Clear Liquids 3 days liquids ( YES that's 6 days ) 3 days mushies 3 days semi solid foods 12 days NO SOLIDS. GUESS what I can do a month of liquids w/ both hands tied behind my back now ! Am I perfect NO . I would NEVER IN A MILLION Years tell someone " CHEAT GO AHEAD " Its not even cheating its going against MEDICAL ORDERS !!! Geesh !! Mindy

Could not agree more . Its only a week , Its easier to deal w/ after surgery , But your almost through the first day !

Yep that's all ya gotta do . Ladybug I LOVE your name it cracks me up . Super cute ! OH and GIG EM !! -
First off hang in there you CAN do it . Second off look at it this way .. its ONLY a week . Some people have to do 2, 3, 4. What is a week of discomfort for the rest of your life ? What are you allowed to eat ? what is your post op diet ? is it liquids ? MIndy

How long before you ate lettuce salads?
coltonwade replied to grannytwinkie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Lettuce was something that scared the hell out of me after being banded. I did not eat it for many many months. Finally i asked someone and they said " NO NO issues, just chew it well like anything else. I personally make sure its crispy . This is something that I would have THOUGHT would give you issues but it does not . Unless im really tight ( which does not happen often ) or having issues already . So if your doc allows it ( meaning your far enough post op ) I say go for it . Mindy -
It sounds like the band has just loosened up since your last fill. But FYI Instead of playing with "Fire" and risking Losing your band by causing a slip by keeping it too tight, Just go in next time your tight and TALK TO YOUR DOC !! tell him last time there too much was taken out and you could eat too much ask him to take out less. how is he suppose to know that if you do not tell him ? Instead you are risking your band ?being so tight you have heart burn is BAD NEWS. But it sounds like you know that. Good luck , Sounds like you have decent restriction nwo Mindy

afraid I think my band has slipped
coltonwade replied to mommomgrandma's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sounds like your were sliming . Which can happen if you get stuck . Which is "normal" although it does not look or feel normal at the time . I am glad you can feel the port. You know my band one day (Like yesterday) It allows me to eat an entire hamburger patty , the next day ( like today ) I cant eat but one small chicken nugget. You will think im NUTS for this but if you track it you will find it has ALOT to do w/ your band if your a person this affects. The barametric pressure can affect your band. It affects my migrines and also affects my band. Good luck and your welcoem for the help anytime !!
