Having trouble keeping items down
coltonwade replied to Tanikaye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes i understand. But Pbing leading to more Pbing leading to not being able to keeping liquids down , you can end up into a cycle. Meaning you PB , eat thinking your ok , but your actually still a little swolen , so you PB Again , get a little more swollen , think your ok to eat , eat PB AGAIN then you cant keep liquids down , the pb's can even be days a part. You still need a slight unfill if you cant keep liquids down . maybe im mis understanding you ? That is why i said anytime even if its not RIGHT after a fill you cant keep liquid down you need an unfill MIndy -

anyone have a spouse that is not on board?
coltonwade replied to kplant's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My husband NEVER said anything negative about my weight either, Had he we would not be married now . The only thing he ever said was " if YOUR unhappy do something about it other wise stop bitching " Our sex life became no existant by MY choice. He has no problem w/ it . But in my mind I was thinking " He's just having sex w/ me cause he's a man and well they have sex w/ anyone " he told me over and over he found me attrative still and I thought and told him he was lying there is NO WAY , I mean SERIOUSLY Look at my before picture ! PLEASE he was lying through his teeth LOL Our marriage suffered mainly because of MY insecurities. Like aubrie our marriage got better and better after surgery . Its probably at a point where it would have been had I not gained all the weight. I am very lucky. I hope that anyone who does not have a spouse on board gets them that way ! -
Having trouble keeping items down
coltonwade replied to Tanikaye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say the first yr anytime i had any issues or PBed I called my doc and let him know . you think " EVERY TIME You Pbed you called" Yes I did . The reason , they are your doc they need to know . Because if you PB and get swollen and all of a sudden cant keep liquids down and end up in the ER and you DONT call the docs going to be like what the hell is going on all of a sudden , but if you DO call they will know " Oh ok this is probably from the PB episdoe the other day " At the VERY least you might save yourself a total unfill. The boards are GREAT for support , they are NOT A place for medical advice, even from vet bandsters, If you are concerned about this or ANYTHING you need to call your doc. HTH Mindy -

I have a very sensitive stomach , Fills affect me differnetly than others. HOWEVER Anytime you cant keep liquids down you NEED An unfill ! If you cant keep them down for a day , Ok that's fine see how it goes for the next but if you cant keep liquids down for more than 24 hours you need an unfill i dont care what the reason is !!! Claritain is like candy ! I take Prescription singular daily . If i dont i'll drown in my sinus drainage in the morning . If its not working for you try getting an RX from the doc. I Live in Texas allergies are a way of life. There is a thing here called "Cedar Fever" , people are SO allergic to the cedar trees during certain times of the yr they have to literally leave town. My husband gets so sick every yr its like he has the flu but its from Cedar Allergies !

Flying is known to change the band as well. Some docs if your one to tighten up will unfill you slightly when you fly . the cabin pressure can tighten it up . Mindy

Having trouble keeping items down
coltonwade replied to Tanikaye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
See how you do , What i have just done is kind of just treated it like im still going w/ my regular fill . See how much i can eat , if i still have decent restriction then i will just leave it. If i start being able to eat a lot , or gain then i'll go get that amount back in . I usually start w/ the amount taken out put back in . HTH Mindy -
Having trouble keeping items down
coltonwade replied to Tanikaye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was going to say , that typically when this happens to me and I have to get an unfill going back to put that fill back in is not a good idea for many weeks. Meaning , If i have to get a slight unfill , even if it is because i irritated my stoma from a PB episode I typically do not have to get the fill back in for several weeks. And for me ( and im a little odd cause im sensitive to fills ) in other words I normally continue w/ the fill schedule , so if its been 4 weeks since my last fill and i get a slight unfill i probably wont go get that fill back for another 2 weeks or so , does that make sense ? HTH Mindy -
Cold in general makes the band tighten up . That is why if you drink something cold before you eat the band will tighten up . the mucus thing is a whole different ball game. I live in Texas , allergies are BAD REAL bad here. There are some docs if you have bad sinus drainage wont band you because it can affect the band . Here the summer can be just as bad for sinus and mucus build up as the cold. So not saying your wrong but I thinl they can be 2 issues . HTH Mindy

anyone have a spouse that is not on board?
coltonwade replied to kplant's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Coming from someone who was thin when i met my husband then gained 100 plus pds then lost 100 plus pounds the weight changes you . The weight changed my personality , before my weight gain i had a up beat, fun loving, out going personality , After wards i was nearly a shut in . Did not want to be around people, did not want to go anywhere, did not want to be seen . NOW If you ask my husband ( and people have ) how does it feel to have a thin wife or how do you feel that your wife have surgery . his answer is this " I got my wife BACK" And that is exactly how i feel . I am my old self and then some. So if your spouse asks you if your going to change its not fair to tell them no , becuase i can all but guarantee you you will. BUT You can tell them " I will be more fun, more active and more myself , i will be the real person i was meant to b e " If you feel like your an outgoing , fun loving talkactive person now , you will be that once you lose the weight and THEN Some. If your sort of a home body now , you probably will not want to sit at home anymore. If your spouse does , that is usually where the problem comes in . So counseling before hand is a good idea if you think you will become different ( and different is not bad ) than what you are now . Mindy -

anyone have a spouse that is not on board?
coltonwade replied to kplant's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I personally think that a spouse should be on board for surgery , however , if my spouse had not been i would have done it anyway . BUT I think it woudl have caused some major issues if he had not. Most of the time when the spouses are not supportive its because they are scared and insecure. I personally find it a little ridiculous that a friend has to fly in to help you w/ your kids, i am assuming they are HIS kids too ? . Your husband cant or wont ? I think maybe some more "Schooling " of the band might need to be done w/ him and the band. How far out from surgery are you ? The closer to surgery i got the more my husband realized i was doing this and the more supportive he became. Most of my husbands issues were him being worried in general about me having surgery . other spouses , espically those who have been married to someone who have been over weight the whole time tehy have been married are worried of what the other side will bring. It might be a good idea to get into some consueling BEFORE surgery . Post op divorce rates are pretty high w/ WLS . HTH Mindy -
I am not sure what your asking ? But I will give my 2 cents . Ketosis for short periods of time is " ok" But contrary to what diets like Atkins will make you think it is NOT GOOD to be in Ketosis for long periods of time. W/ the band during certain periods its " Normal" to be in ketosis because your not getting in enough calories, such as the pre op diet and post op phases right after surgery . However you do NOT want to PURPOSLY PUT yourself in ketosis. It can cause organ damage. What are the dangers of ketosis? - Doctors Lounge I am not sure if this is what your after or not ? If not let me know if you need more help , questions answered. HTH MIndy

I have a 4cc band , I know someone who has 4cc's in the 4cc band . The bands actually hold a little more than their "Max' for instance a 4cc band can hold a little more than 4cc's if i remember right.

For me its the Barometric Pressure. I am a person where the BP affects me , a change in it will give me migraines. So it also affects my band. If it drops below a certain number my band gets tighter. I have a small barometer in my house for this reason Mindy

Having trouble keeping items down

If you cant keep liquids down and you have a fill in your band your too tight you need to get a slight unfill. your risking slipping your band and your putting your band at risk. Even if its off and on ,your too tight. Not being able to keep liquids down is NEVER GOOD ! You should call your doc asap ! Mindy -
Start off good then get too tight...help
coltonwade replied to cantweight2go's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Why can it take up to 2 weeks for fills to kick in ? because your stomach is being manipulated every time you get a fill . Every time you get a fill your stomach swells. Each person is different , each person takes a different time for the swelling to go down in order for the true feel of the fill to kick in . My fills typically kick in from 4-7 days after my fill. I also swell A LOT after each fill. does that answer your question any ? Mindy -
Have you had any luck ? Any news ? Mindy

Start off good then get too tight...help
coltonwade replied to cantweight2go's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just read your post again . The band is meant to be used as a tool to allow you to eat SOLID FOODS normally just less of them . If your haivng to BLEND your food is that "normal" to you or is that how you want to eat food to lose weight ? My guess would be NO . that's not what the band is for. If your tight off and on , and are blending food to eat in order to keep it down YOUR TOO TIGHT Go get an unfill before you slip your band, plain and simple !!! It wont hurt your weight loss but it WILL Hurt your band if you do not !! Mindy -
Start off good then get too tight...help
coltonwade replied to cantweight2go's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you are a person that Stress affects you in your stomach , you get headaches from stress, you get stomach aches from stress, if weather affects your body , you get headaches from weather change, your back hurts when its cold ect, you can almost bet those things will affect your band. Example, if your band is tight check the barometric pressure in your area. The lower it is the better chance your band is tight. For me , I get migraines chronically , if the barometric pressure drops i get a migraine. If i get stressed i get a migraine. The same things that affect my migraines affect my band. BUT if im SO Tight that the stress wont allow me to eat I have to get an unfill. You said you wanted to not jeopardize your weight loss. Your putting your band in jeopardy by keepign it too tight if you are. If your too tight and you get a slight unfill, you will still lose weight. Mindy -
OHH I saw that show that was SO interesting ! I was amazed at how that worked out. Mindy
