What my post-op diet from my book looks like...
Patterba replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you. This is greatly appreciated -
Hi Everyone My surgery was on 5/10, I was a band to sleeve conversion I wouldn't describe day 1 as a walk in the park, in fact it was a bit more intense than I had envision. I am not one for narcotics, but The pain pump and I got to know each other. I would say extremely sore would describe that day 1. The staff was great. I had a prophylactic antibiotics called flagyl and one of the side effects is that it leaves a horrendous metallic taste in your mouth. To the point that each sip was disgusting. And of course they want you to sip sip sip and with each one I yaked yaked yaked. By day 3 this went away although I had a filmy sensation in my mouth Today is day 5 and that has gone away. Also today is the first day that I have been able to consume a decent amount of water. I feel that I am really starting to turn the bend. In that the soreness in swallowing has subsided The place where my port was located is sore but the doc said it would be because the previuos surgeon used the realize band and the way to plant the port was to twist it into the muscle facia. So untwisting it would leave me sore. The remarkable thing is that since Friday my weight is dropping including the 1 week pre op diet I am down 13lbs. Which I am happy about since my starting BMI was 35. I am on full liquids so I still need to focus on the 60 grams of protein. I probably hit 50 today. I think it will get a bit easier. The one big difference from band to sleeve is that the sensation of full is much more noticeable. The band had me purging and I felt I had no control. Bye I got the band in 2008 and did keep most (except 15 lbs) off but it was a battle So I am very excited with this new venture and sense of control

I had my first fill in my 11cc band on Dec. 4th. My surgeon said he put 6cc in... He had me drink Water as he filled.. I drank the whole cup without a problem. So here is my question? I do not feel like I have any noticeable restriction. Could it be that the fill did not go into my band? I know that sounds strange to say, but my first fill 6cc's I would expect that I would have felt something.. Can anyone relate to this? any similar experiences out there and did the second fill make a difference? I don't go back until Jan 21st.. I am thinking of calling to see if I can get moved up in the schedule..

Do u feel the band when you move around?
Patterba replied to Sweet Pete's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome. You are probably feeling the pull of the sutures where the port is attached to your ab muscle. I know I did and it lasted for a good 4-5 weeks before that feeling went away. I know the general area of my port, but I really can't feel it.. the surgeon must have really implanted it deep under my fat!! -
My new life started 9-15-09! I need to add a FEW new friends too!
Patterba replied to Mariposa_N_TX's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Felicia, This group is full of wonderful wisdom. Don't hesitate to ask.. Also, there are many band blogs out there.. if you go to my blog you will see a list of other band blogs (I think I am following around 50 now) that might also have some day to day insight to help you along. Be well. Barbara -
If you want to join this group that Zobee has formed you need to look on the far top right for the words Join Group.. (first time for me doing this.. in case anyone is green like me LOL).

I like the "walking with warriors", it can take on so many different meanings.. I have a blog for my husband, who is a cancer warrior.. so it would be extra motivating for me.. (just my 2 cents worth)..

Question for those who have had more than one fill...
Patterba replied to adagray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow, 2 weeks apart.. that is very generous.. I have to wait 6 wks apart... the only advice I would give you is that it may take you more than 2 weeks to get to know how to pace yourself with the band and different foods.. I guess if you could cancel with no penalty it wouldn't/shouldn't be a problem. -
What weight to start from?
Patterba replied to flychica's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really doesn't matter.. do what you feel comfortable with. next you will look at your clothed weight vs. standed stark naked weight.. when you get close to onderland, you will be amazed at how you look forward to that number and will weigh yourself after an empty bladder.. The point here is that you go in the right direction and feel good about yourself. -
Fill me up, Buttercup...
Patterba replied to zobee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 11cc band and my first fill was 6cc (which took me by surprise).. at first I had good restriction, now not so much.. I get my second fill on Jan 22 (which I am looking forward to). When I did get my first fill, the doc had me stand against a wall, cough so he could locate the port, and then gave me a cup of Water to drink and asked me to give a signal when I felt different.. well. I never felt any different and he said he wasn't going to give me any more than the 6cc's. I only had one pb incident, and that was my own fault for snarfing down triscuit crackers.. believe me, you don't want to get so filled that you can't live your life.. we need to remember it is a tool and not a cure all... Good luck to you.. -
Oh boy, if half a slice of pizza is cheating, then I am subject to being condemned for life.. I realize you are trying to be diligent but you need to live your life too. I used to beat myself up over "cheating" but not any more.. I realize that I am working towards a healthier life style, but everything in balance.. So give your self some credit in that you were disciplined in your eating and were able to stop when you were full (although I would have had the whole slice).

For those who are losing hair
Patterba replied to happy2lose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Happy2, Hairloss was my fear all along.. so I too started to take 2000mg of Biotin every day.. it did not make a difference.. everyday, I can see the hair coming out.. (sigh).. I think the big factor is making sure you are hitting your Protein gram intake every day.. otherwise the body really does sense the dietary changes. I am glad to hear that you are back on the right track.. I am hoping that I am not too far behind.. keep us updated.. -
Does anybody have a fill experience like mine?
Patterba replied to Patterba's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Doc does not use fluoro for fills (that does make me wonder if the full 6cc's went through the band). I am thinking of doing a 3 day liquid Protein just to try to do some carb withdrawal. that does help me control my intake. Anyway, thanks for all of the comments and thoughts on this topic.. much appreciated. -
Does anybody have a fill experience like mine?
Patterba replied to Patterba's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just tried to get in early for my second fill and no luck. Doc really wants to space them six weeks apart..I have little to no restriction. I don't want to be so tight I am pbing, but I would like to go from meal to meal without wanting to eat a cow. Looks like this will not happen until Jan 22 though.. It is so strange that some people can be at their sweet spot at 6 cc's and others feel nothing. I realize that we have different size bands, but so much variation.. in the feeling of restriction is interesting. I definitely want to learn more about why this is the case... -
Ok, how many of you really exercise faithfully, and I mean break a sweat, need a shower kind of exercising? I do not exercise more than a few long walks a week, and am seeing good weightloss... I realize this wil probably slow up soon. But what I am trying to understand is doesn't the restriction and eating less simply enough to make the difference in losing weight consistently? Thanks
-
Elfie, I am relieved to read your post... I had my first fill by my surgeon and he gave me 6cc;s.. well I don't have any restriction. So I suspect that maybe that 6cc's never made it into my band. I can chug the Water bottle and eat without any warning signs.. everything is self control.. I thought how could this be?? Certainly my surgeon wouldn't miss the port fill. but maybe that is what happened. THey had me drink a cup of water and I drank the entire thing without so much as a slow up. I suspected a miss, your post now confirms that this can happen. Hope that you are doing much better...
