Where can I find the questions to ask the surgeon?
juno610 replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a word doc with all kinds of question. PM me your email and I will send it to you. I have it set up so that there's room to write in answers, so print and you're ready to go! -

web - I think you can definitely make that goal. I lost about 35lbs my first 4 months out from banding! I also did not have any time limits about when to get pregnant. I was banded in January, started trying in May, but, as it happened, didn't get preggo till December anyway. So, I was almost a year out, but not by choice and not by dr restriction. I also was not required to get a complete unfill. In fact, I wasn't required to get any unfill at all -- the only reason I did was because I got super tight in the 5th or 6th week. He only took out about .5ccs. All has been well so far. I guess my point is, don't stress about your doc's suggestions being different than most others. If you look in some other areas, docs differ about all kinds of things -- from post-op diet to post-PB suggestions. There's a million different schools of thought with this stuff. But at least you can know that you are not alone with the kind of suggestions your doc makes -- they are mostly on par with things I was told. So, all good! :huh2: -

Wheetsin - thanks for posting that fish oil info! I ended up getting some softgels from GNC, and so far my band is tolerating them. I do feel some restriction coming back gradually, so I may be looking for something like for my next batch of DHA. -
Where did/do you go for maternity clothes?
juno610 replied to Wheetsin's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I like the higher waisted pants too. I did break my rule on that yesterday though. It's been so warm here in Michigan the last few days, so I finally bought a pair of shorts and capris. The capris are the low-waisted kind, but I figured when it's really really hot this summer, I might not want the extra layer around my stomach. Have you tried any of the secret-fit belly style pants from motherhood? They are truly great! You can't even tell where they stop. I like not having that big 'ol "here are my pants" line across my belly. -

OMG!!! Is it so weird to know it's just a few days away? Wow! I wish you all the best. I can't wait to see pics of your little bundle! As for me... all my testing came back normal. No gestational diabetes, no preeclampsia for now. Whew! -

I've heard the maternity stuff from Lane Bryant is crap and not worth the money. So far I've only shopped at Motherhood. I wear a 20 normally, and I fit in their 1X size pretty good. I was actually rather pleased with the fit! I do plan on ordering some stuff from the JCPenney maternity catalog. I agree though... it does irk me to no end about stores not carrying plus size maternity clothes. The KMart's and WalMart's around me used to, but apparently they are phasing it out. Nice! -

Is a complete unfill NECESSARY during pregnancy??
juno610 replied to Jennie1976's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Jennie - I think this really depends on each individual's situation. For instance, my band really tightened up on me when I was about 6 weeks pregnant, so I went in for an adjustment. In the interest of keeping me from ballooning up in weight, my surgeon only took me down from 1.9ccs to 1.5ccs. This was enough to get me eating normally and comfortably. I also have not had any morning sickness or vomiting, otherwise I'm sure I would have required more unfill. I was told that unless I tighten up again, I do not need to be completely unfilled before delivery. Six weeks after baby comes I can start getting filled up again. Hope that helps! Maria -
Well, being pregnant has definitely put a wrench in weight loss, but I plan on getting mostly to goal before I get pregg with #2. So, I think I'm looking at about 3 years out to get all the way there.

The fish oil is for DHA, which is supposed to be important for baby's brain development. My OB had me start on a DHA supplement at about week 12. So far I've been taking Expecta Lipil (made by Enfamil), but it is quite pricey. I asked my OB if it mattered if the DHA came from a fish oil source or not, and she said fish oil is fine. The good news about the fish oil is that there are a few companies that make an orange or lemon flavored capsule, so you don't have to burp up fish nastiness all day. I plan on switching to these when my Lipil is gone: Barlean's Healthy Mom -

So, lucky me, I get to do the 3day/3hour glucose tolerance test. I have to follow a high carb diet (well, just get in at least 150g) for 3 days before the bloodwork. Then, I sit in the office for 3 hours, so they can draw blood. When I looked over the sheet of food lists, I was thinking, Holy Crap - how on earth am I going to fit all this in! Seriously, there is little room for protein, considering my restriction is coming back with a vengeance. I made grits for breakfast this morning, and even though I made them thin, it was still too much for 8:30am. I'm in gurgle city right now! -

Hey girls! Jodie - hang in there! My friend has had two babies weighing under 5lbs, and both are fine and thriving! I will send some prayers your way. So, I went to the OB yesterday. Seemed like forever between visits. Everything is good so far. I had the glucose tolerance test, and my results came back a little high, but I won't find out till tomorrow if I have to go back for the long test. I also have to do that test where I collect all my pee in a jug for 24 hours. My husband is completely grossed out that it has to be kept in the fridge! I know, ew! I get to go for my next ultrasound on the 23rd, and I'm so excited. We are hoping to find out the sex. With my luck, baby probably won't show us the goods, so we'll see! Hope all is well with everyone else! Maria -
It seems every surgeon's instructions are different. I, personally, wasn't given any rules about timeframe. I started TTC 5 months after I got my band, but it took another 6 months to get pregant, so I ended up being almost a year out.

So, I had my first preggo PB today. In front of my in-laws! I was so embarrassed, but they are the sweetest people on earth. My FIL was worried about me all afternoon, even though I tried to explain that once it's out, I'm 100% better! Ugh. So, liquids for me today. I'm sure another unfill is imminent. I'm blaming the whole thing on a nasty piece of steak at TGIFridays. Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. It's actually 60 degrees here today! -
after delivery problem w/band?
juno610 replied to momof1's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I think that the majority of the really active users on this particular board are currently preggo, so we don't have answers for you just yet. I'm sorry you aren't getting more replies! -
My mom told my grandma about my surgery, and my grandma replied with, "Why doesn't she just wear a girdle?" Nice.
