newbie to this site...banded 1 year ago
juno610 replied to baj3mac's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Phyllis! Glad to have you here! I also have a very supportive family -- couldn't do it without them! Maria -
Wowee... I overdid it for the first time today. I had a little too much refried beans for dinner. Shame on my for eye-balling it and not measuring. I didn't PB and I'm not in pain, but I have that pressure in the middle of my chest. Rather unpleasant but bearable. Live and learn, right?

Question- After Post Op but Before 1st Fill
juno610 replied to Nella337's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first few weeks after surgery is all about healing up your stomach. I was told not to worry about weight loss until after my first fill. Hang in there! I'm also 2 weeks out and on mushy foods. I decided to keep track of calories and such just to keep a handle on things. I don't want to gain either! Maria -
Checking in for the day... I've been settling into the mushies pretty good. I can definitely eat more than the 1/2 cup I'm supposed to, but I'm doing my best to restrain myself. I AM definitely satisfied with just the 1/2 cup, so there's no reason for me to eat more. It's one of those old habits I gotta break! I found a really neat little food/exercise journal. It's called DietMinder. I have looked at a ton of these, and this is the only one that I really felt fit what I was looking for. Check it out. I decided to pick this up because I am required to keep journals of food and exercise for my fill appointments. I figured it would be easier to have it all in one little portable place. Everybody keep up the good work! Maria

Hi Lisa and welcome! Good luck with all the pre-op. It will go by so fast. :rose: Maria

A thought about gastric flu
juno610 replied to GC53's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to get myself to ER ASAP and get anti-nausea meds if I ever throw up. My husband made the point that it would certainly be alot less volume-wise. Sorry if that was too gross -
My sister is having a Super Bowl party this weekend. I wanted to bring a dish or two that would serve as meals for me and Snacks for everyone else. It's not a big crowd, so I don't need a ton. I saw the pimento cheese ball on the recipes thread. I thought that might be a good idea. I also thought of making a 7 layer dip. I could just eat a little by spoon and everyone else can have chips with it. So, any other ideas for me? Maria

Banded yesterday..lots of questions
juno610 replied to waitingtiljan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Stacy, Yes, you sound normal! I had the very same feeling in my gut. It even hurt to laugh! My gas pains weren't too bad either. They never did hit my shoulder, just my chest. Sore throat sounds right too -- it's from the tube they put down there during surgery. My doc told me I could have sugar free popsicles for that. You definitely do not want to get dehydrated, so keep drinking! The first 3 days I wasn't able to get down more than 2 oz in 30-40 minutes. You just have to sip sip sip all day. Switch it up too. Don't do just Water. broth should be fine. I also sipped on Pedialyte and thinned creamy Soups. The first couple days I did count my ounces of liquid meds as part of my "sips". If I tried to drink something right on top of 2 oz of tylenol/maalox, I'd get that pain you mentioned. Just give it some time and then start sipping again. Hope that helps! Maria -
Hello! I was banded on the 22nd too. Come check out the January Bandsters thread under General Lap-Band Discussion! There's a ton of us

Warnings, And Precautions
juno610 replied to kbattal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not that they are bad for the band, it's just that they can irritate the stomach, and that is something you would want to avoid. I've been told something along the lines of the medicines sitting in your stomach ABOVE the band and irritating that part of it before it moves through the stoma to be mixed with stomach acids and such. Hope that makes sense. -
Good afternoon January bandsters! I am feeling like a million bucks today. Got almost 12 hours of sleep last night and didn't wake up once! This is a first since surgery! I had my one week post-op with my surgeon and nutritionist today. Both were very pleased with my progress. Best part? MUSHIES!!!! I got home and had a small lunch of hummus and baba ghannoush! YUM!!! Haha, can you tell I'm excited? I'm going to do my best to keep my arse off the scale for a while and only weigh once a week. I get two weeks of mushies, then two weeks of a soft solid phase. That's when I'll get to add ground meat and canned tuna or chicken, pasta, rice, etc. I don't get to add dry crackers or full meats until later. No problem here! Good luck to all the peeps getting their bands this week! Whoo-hoo! Maria

Had to share this with you all... So, the last couple days I've been having this weird pain on my side. I notice it more when I'm sitting down, and because I was sitting I couldn't figure out exactly how far up/down it was coming from. This whole time I'm thinking to myself, "Hmmm... am I ovulating or something? Ovary pain?" because I had to go off the pill for surgery. Well, today I was standing up and moved a certain way and felt it again. All of a sudden I was like, DUH, it's my PORT!!! LOL! I'm such a dork

Why not just ask? I do stress testing and we usually have all ladies remove their bras. But, if they wear a sports bra and request to leave it on, we always let them. As long as there is no metal, I can't see why there would be a problem. Good luck!

Lap Band Seminar meeting it tonight
juno610 replied to airwayman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a Word document made up of questions I took to my seminar. PM me if you'd like it. I'll email it to you. It's all spaced out so there is room to write answers too. Maria -
Oh man, I should not be posting at 4am. I hate when I leave typos like that!! I only noticed it because Tulip quoted me. LOL. Thanks Tulip!

Speaking of overall heating pads.... We got a heated mattress pad for Christmas. It is the best thing every! It's really helped my back at night, and it makes the covers nice and cozy to crawl into at night. I highly recommend it!

The gas being talked about.....
juno610 replied to FurEllie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine came out the rear end. Fortunately, I didn't have a plane ride to deal with. However, it didn't really smell like a fart until about 4 days out. Just my experience. I've read where others say they burped alot. I haven't been able to do that at all. Hope it goes well for you! -
Banded 1-24 and so far so good--but the gas!
juno610 replied to mama124's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It will  Mine didn't start to let up until about 6 days out. Gas-X is the key! -
Hey there. I'm about a week out, and still not hungry. Don't worry about what has not happened yet. Just take it a day at a time. About the scale, try not to get on more than once a day. Your weight will most likely fluctuate a lot during the day because of fluids, so why drive yourself crazy? I weigh almost every day in the morning as soon as I get up. Hang in there! Maria
-
Marissa - It is VERY expensive. If I wasn't required to do it, I would've found another way.
-
Has anyone ever requested to have the rolls cut a little smaller? I wonder if they would do that...
-
Sherilynn, it's all relative. I do envy you your filet and lobster tail. I had been on Optifast for 4 weeks, so my appetite was far gone. My "last supper" the night before surgery was 1 cup of whole wheat noodles with tomato sauce and a small bag of doritos. LOL! Boy was it good!:hungry: Maria

All that gas chest pain... I had it too. I am 6 days out, and I can honestly say this is the first day I have not had any. Hang in there everyone. It will pass! My secret weapon was chewable gas-x.
