Pregnant and Banded...come join me!
juno610 replied to raynie's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Raynie - awesome idea for a roll-call. I'll start one on the main page. -
I am downright jealous of all those who can bring up food with a mere burp! :smile2: My PBs have all included outright retching to the point where I thought my lower jaw was going rip off. It's been awful. BUT, as soon as it's out, I feel a million times better. Mine are almost always preceeded by that golfball feeling in the chest, back pain, sweats, and dizziness.

Marshmallows!? That's pretty cool. I could probably deal with that -
Hey everyone! I haven't had internet access for a few days and it's been killing me! LOL! Everything here is going good. All is well with the pregnancy so far. I am starting to feel my band tighten up at times, so I'm sure another unfill is looming in the near future. I still haven't gained anything yet. I'm a little ashamed to admit I am absolutely terrified of gaining back everything I lost over the past year. I'm hoping to keep my pregnancy weight gain to under 20lbs, which should be fine since I still weight 235! I haven't really discussed it with my OB yet, so I'm curious to what she'll have to say. The good thing is, now that the tiredness is starting to wear off, I've actually been feeling like exercising. I got some Leslie Sansone tapes from my mom, and I'm going to try them out 3 days a week. I'm restricted to walking for exercise, so I figured the Leslie Sansone workouts would be sufficiently low-impact. It's too damn crappy to go walk outside, and it's too frigid to walk on my basement treadmill. I can't wait for spring! Tonya - yes I'm taking my vits! I even got my OB to give me chewable prenatals! BGB - good to see you back here! Lynn - can't wait to hear about surgery. Sending thoughts and prayers your way!

Am I the only one that demanded a chewable prenatal vitamin? There is no way I was going to even attempt to swallow those horsepills! -
How long did you wait for a baby??
juno610 replied to AppleSmith1226's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
We were about a year out -- might've been sooner, but it took me almost 9 months to get pregnant. My surgeon never mentioned a specific wait-time for pregnancy. In fact, I was told I could have the band even if I was planning on getting pregnant right away because it would help with weight gain during the pregnancy. -
Angyl -- you look AMAZING!!!! Wow! I'm so thrilled for you to be so close to goal. That is so great. I know it doesn't help, but I can see myself having the same body image issues when I get there too. We just have to work through it I guess. Somehow I think that feeling of being "the fat girl" will never really leave us.

What's considered "reasonable"
juno610 replied to MrsFlipFlops's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I've been on the pill since I was 19. I just found out I have PCOS when we started TTC. It took about 7 months of nothing, then I started on Metformin. 3 weeks later... preggo! I wish I had some words of wisdom for you on other BC methods, but the pill is all I've ever used, and I totally understand why you wouldn't want to go with that. -
At the time I was taking Lexapro, Avapro, and Zyrtec. I laid off the Zyrtec (I could deal with Allergies for one day), but the other two were OK'd.

HELP! New problems with throwing up
juno610 replied to 2bslimsherri's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In my experience (and everyone is different), it usually takes an hour or two before I'll actually throw up. The bummer is, I feel like absolute dog doo for the entire time and the barfing usually comes as a relief. The quickest I ever went from stuck to barf was way back with my second fill after I ate some rice. That was about 10 minutes total. Never. Again. I will add that I've never actually thrown up at a restaurant, but I have taken a huge pile of napkins in the car with me and slimed into them the whole way home. Sorry if that was TMI! -
Dr. Meguid and Dr. Hawasli are in St. Clair Shores. Here's their website: Eastside Surgical Specialists, PC And here is Meguid's profile on obesity help.com: Bariatric Surgeon Profile - Ahmed Meguid M.D. They came highly recommended by my surgeon (who has since moved out of state, otherwise I would have recommended her!). I have just started seeing Dr. Krause at Royal Oak Beaumont for aftercare. I've only seen him once, but I like him so far and I've heard good things about him too. Here's Dr. Krause's profile from Obesity Help: Bariatric Surgeon Profile - Kevin Krause, M.D. Hope that helps!

A tummy sleeve is this wide stretchy band that pretty much covers your whole tummy. The idea is to hold up loose maternity pants (yeah right!) or to help hold up your regular pants if you are wearing them unbuttoned. I'm hoping it will also smooth out some of my lumps when I really bump out. I really wanted a Bella Band, but Motherhood had a knockoff for half the price. -
They had wanted everyone to pick up their records before she left (back in October). I'm not sure what the process would be now that the office is actually closed. There might be a way to contact her via the old website (Michigan Bariatrics Surgery Center of Excellence P.C Lap-Band). Good luck!

First of all, don't beat yourself up about it. We all make mistakes. I want to share two things with you. First, I too used to hide food all the time. To this day, those closest to me have no idea the extent to which I used to do this. I would recommend finding some way to work on those head/food issues. I still see my therapist that I was required to see before banding, and it has helped a lot. Second, I can honestly say that once I got my band and got it to a good restriction level, a lot of that behavior went by the wayside. I'm not saying I don't have my moments, but my hunger truly is dimmed, and I eat so little that I really don't feel the need to hide anything anymore. I'm sure therapy has helped with that, but I gotta give the band it's due. I was terrified it would not work for me and that I would overeat and slip my band, blah blah blah. But, I didn't. I've lost 40lbs this year. I think I would've lost more, but I had some struggles with my band being too tight for awhile. So, hang in there. I know it's scary, but trust in yourself! You can do it and don't forget to take advantage of all the great support here on these boards! Maria

Just had to share... I bought a pair of maternity jeans yesterday. OMG they are so comfortable! And I was thrilled that I fit in and looked OK in the 1x size at Motherhood. I have been terrified that I was going to look awful in maternity clothes or that I wouldn't be able to find any that I felt good in. I also got one of those tummy sleeves -- I'm hoping it will save me from having to buy more scrub pants. -
Lynn - I plan on having at least a tummy tuck and maybe a boob job after I lose all my weight and have kids. I'm having my first in September, so I'm thinking I won't be at the plastic surgery stage for a couple years. I want to wait at least two years before we go for number two. The plan is to lose most of my weight in between the two pregnancies, have another kids, lose the baby weight, have the surgery.

It's funny you say that. I've actually been much less susceptible to colds and such this year. In fact, I haven't had more than an allergy sniffle the entire time! Well, except for a 2-day flu a few weeks ago. But seriously, I've never felt better!

Jodie -- I had just a small bit of bloody stool. I mean to ask my doc about it at my appointment tomorrow. I'm pretty sure it's because I've been straining a little more than usual. A bit of Colace will probably do the trick. My mom was telling me that when she was preggo with my sister, she was so constipated that she had to take a Colace every other day! -
Poll- Pg when did you get unfilled?
juno610 replied to jillrn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
In my 5th week, I got super tight, so I had .5ccs taken out. It has made a world of difference. I'm able to eat normal food (I had been living on chili and ice cream for two weeks), and my weight is stable. My surgeon thinks I will probably need more unfills as time goes on. -

A quick question for you all... did you guys have to do that glucose tolerance test where you have to drink that carbonated stuff? If so, did it bother your band at all? I'm not too worried since I've been unfilled a bit, but I have been religious about staying away from pop since surgery. I have my first OB visit on Monday. Should be interesting! And just for fun, here's my little bean so far: Jill -- Yay! Congratulations! Raynie - No morning sickness yet! Even with the progesterone supplements! There's been a few evening where if I hadn't eaten a lot for dinner I'd feel a little nausea, but I haven't been bad at all. Fingers crossed! Bex - I told everyone at work (I actually had to declare my pregnancy in writing because I am exposed to very small amounts of radiation at work -- this way they monitor me more closely). Today we are telling my extended family at a get-together, and the in-laws will know soon. They are in Aruba right now, so we have to wait till they get back. Candice - My sister was a little over a week late with her first. Tell everyone to just simmer down! m1hocker - TWINS!!! OMG that is so exciting! I'm a little jealous -- twins run in my family and I was so hoping for them, but oh well, maybe next time! -

Jill -- congrats! My first test was a very faint pink line too. I didn't really get to think of anything creative because DH insisted on looking at the test with me. Candice -- whoa! Two inductions! I can't wait to hear of your new arrival! Things are going pretty good here. I'm now 8 week preggo. I had my first ultrasound this week and got to see the heartbeat -- how neat! My first official OB visit is on Monday. I still haven't been very sick (only in the evenings... I get a little nausea then if I haven't eaten) and the cramps finally went away. How's everyone else? -

Seems like there is more of this topic coming up lately, and it would be great to have a place to gather. It would also make it easier for new people with those questions to get answers, or at least to know where to put their question! Thanks! -
Just wanted to pop in and say hello to everyone. I had my ultrasound today and got to see my little tadpole's heartbeat! Pretty cool! So, I am officially 7 weeks and 4 days preggo! My restriction is still hanging in there. I've noticed that I'm having some tight moments again, so I have a feeling that another unfill is imminent. I'm hoping I can hold off for at least another two months. I haven't gained anything yet, despite actually being able to eat, so I'm VERY happy about that! Maria
