What food causes you to PB or get blocked?
gmdod replied to Mickey527's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Quick question about the meat that gets stuck, is it because it is not being chewed up enough - or is it just another reason. I am trying to wrap my head around why it would be so difficult. I was banded on the 3rd of December so I have not had any problems. Well except for one. I was grocery shopping with my boys and they wanted the soft breadsticks with cheese, kinda like a cheese bun but long and narrow. So I picked up two of them, broke off half for each and just like the old days I took a big bite and started chewing away, it goes down I do not feel anything - so I say well I am not supposed to (on mushies) but I will have just one more bite :willy_nilly: Well I thought I was going to die. The pain was really intense but strange for what was happening - it felt like someone was trying to drive a spike right through my abdomen right where the band is (or where i think it is), so my next instinct was to grab Water, I take a big sip  wow never thought a sip of water could be so painfull. I just sat down, with my kids really worried, I did some breathing excercises and the pain slowly went away and I was left with terrible hiccups that also hurt alot. All that to say, I do not know if I can ever eat bread again in my life after that. Maybe this is the behavioural modification function of the band? -
reality check after banding

Totally agree, I am a recovering food addict. Food is really like any other maladaptive coping mechanism - Alcohol, drugs, shopping - just like anything that will keep your mind off whatever you don't want to think about. The difference is it is so socially acceptable. You cannot have a drink at your desk at lunch, but no one will question a double burger and fries. I am dealing with why I eat and this has helped me tremendously. I am getting banded on the 3rd of December and am really excited. -
Right now I am 358lbs, down from 376lbs, but up from 225lbs when I met my wife. I am going to be banded in 3 weeks. I am 30yrs old. Horny as hell. But I'll tell you what, Sex can be hard when your big, forget about all the hormone stuff etc.... It can be hard to breath, hard to have the stamina, there is sweating, back pain, arm pain, shoulder pain - maybe he is just embarrassed or ashamed of this and would rather forgo sex so as not too feel humiliated. Me personally I could care less most days - but every once in a while I am like screw this, it just isn't worth it. Oh and I agree with everyone else that says you need to communicate with him and not necessarily with a bunch of guys who are really thinking, Hmmm if he wont please you, maybe I could..........

Hi, I just had a Consultation with Dr Miller of Spa Diva Medical in Montreal. Since I have gotten a lot of usefull information from this forum, I thought I would give some back. I live in Ottawa, I found Spa Diva through the Internet and found out that Dr Miller was an old Colleague of a Surgeon friend of mine here in Ottawa - He came highly recommended by this friend as well as my Family Dr. I am 30yrs old, with Hypertension, Depression and lately some serious low back pain, as well as all the other pains that come with being 376lbs Spa Diva is a really nice facility, very posh if you like that kinda thing. I do. Another plus is that it is surrounded by great shopping so your Wife or Husband can keep themselves busy during your surgery. The staff is very friendly and proffessional. Dr Miller is a typical Surgeon, he is very direct and no nonsense. He did a thorough investigation of my medical history, explained the benefits of the Lap-Band® and discussed how I was a good candidate. I decided to go ahead with the Surg and booked for the 3rd of Dec. (i had decided pretty much before I got there) I then met with the Nutritionist - very bright and informative. This is where you get most of the answers to questions you may have about what to excpect and what to eat, etc..... The surgery cost's $16,000 - I am sure they have some type of financing if this is needed. Pre-Op diet is X6 Boost (diabetic formula) shakes a day and one cup of vegetables. last's 14 days. Like a lot of other people I am going to post how it went, and what happens after. If anyone has any info about Dr Miller or Spa Diva they would like to share - that would be great.
