Help...I'm a train wreck!!!
gettingbacktoskinnymini replied to Neener's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not at all unusual to be able to eat a bunch a couple of weeks after surgery. My husband and I were both banded and were shocked that we were both hungry and really able to eat when we got to where you are. Just try and pay attention when you are satisfied (vs. full). And definitely EAT Proteins first. Avoid the carbs. In fact, I'd advise just ruling out pizza altogether. Allow yourself to eat so you're not hungry but at least make sure what you're eating is decent. Our surgeon told us that only 25% of people lose weight in this time period (known as bandster hell because you're possibly hungry and haven't had a fill yet). Good luck! Many of us have been there too! Supposedly it takes on average 4 fills to get to that sweet spot. I've had fills and am often surprised how much I can still eat. But a "pig out" now is just nothing nothing nothing like before. It is worth it! Heather -

3 1/2 weeks post op
gettingbacktoskinnymini replied to beeba7597's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery Aug 4th and I'm super hungry. I saw my surgeon and she said that 75% of patients gain weight between the end of their post-op diet and their first fill. So you're aren't alone. I definitely feel the same way. I've just been counting the days til my fill Monday. I wish I wouldn't have waited to schedule my fill. Good luck! -
band filled 9/4/09

What is the problem with the protein shakes? Can't keep them down? Have you thinned them with water. Mix1 is higher in sugar, but it's a thinner brand. Pure Protein is also a bit thinner. If it's been 3 days since your most recent fill and you still can't even take a thin liquid, i would talk to your doctor. Sounds like he/she is being more aggressive than most doctors. In my opinion too aggressive about fills but I'm not a doctor of course. Good luck! -
Curious

I wasn't actually that hungry the second week post-op, it was more a mental thing. I really wanted to eat. I say get creative with soups but just thin them out with milk. That helped me a lot! -
What size are you at what weight? 14,16,18...
gettingbacktoskinnymini replied to JenFenRen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's interesting to see how different bodies fit the same size. I used to work at Lane Bryant and was always fascinated by the radically different looking people who would all buy a size 18. for me, i'm 5'5 250 lbs = sz 20 235 = 18 220 = 16 190/200 = 14 -
What I heard about lap-band before I had my surgery was that it can be slow, so go easy on yourself. You have lost 25% of the weight you intend to lose and that's a major accomplishment, so keep with it! It'll happen!

I think it would actually be more painful than that if the band had slipped. I'm guessing what you're eating either isn't going down or is disagreeing with your stomach. What about sipping some liquids to help it go down? I'm having heartburn too, but I was eating foods that are acidic and was drinking coffee. My surgeon recommended some Prilosec otc. Supposedly heartburn can be a side effect since the new pouch is so much smaller, hence more sensitive to the foods you put in it... Good luck and feel better!

It might be worth taking it easy at the beginning. I have a sensitive stomach and so the coffee gave me terrible heartburn in the thin liquid stage. Too acidic.

GOOD LUCK! It'll all be over soon and a new life awaits! Congrats on taking the leap! I noticed we're both patients at the same hospital too. So maybe i'll even see you around! -
Caffeine's been an issue for me. I've been having decaf which still has some caffeine in it. I've just been told to limit caffeine. In the short term it might suppress my appetite but after a couple of hours, I'll be ravenously hungry! I'm still on the thin liquids post-op and I'm having fantasies of going to a starbucks for a coffee. Still a liquid! I actually drank flat soda too because i really wanted a diet soda!
