From the time that I was in first grade I knew I had a problem with my weight. When I was eleven I was diagnosed with hypo-thyroidism and my insurance put me in nutrition classes and referred me to a dieticion. After that, I tried just about everything to lose weight. From starving myself to personal trainers to weight watchers, everything I tried worked, at frist. But without fail all the weight and more would come back each time. I was warned not to take diet pills because of my thyroid condition so the only logical next step was bariatric surgery. When I first told my doctor I was interested I was sent away and told to join weight watchers. I asked my Dad if he would consider loaning me money and he refused. A year later my father saw a commercial and asked if I still wanted the surgery. Together we checked the health insurance policy and saw that weight loss surgery was covered. By this time I had switched doctors and when I asked my new doctor about a referral she told me that I had made a good case and wished me luck. After that it seemed like a lifetime of doctors appointments, ultra sounds, and bloodwork. Armed with the knowledge of 10 years of nutrition and excercise information, along with several failed attempts I was ready for my chance to finally take control. It has been a long road and I have still experienced weight loss challenges post op, but this time I know I can lose the weight for good.
