Welcome! I know what you mean about the torment that comes with fixing food that you can't eat. I also had to deal with lots of well meaning people offering me food when they forgot I was on liquids. Thankfully today my doctor gave me the go ahead to eat solids, I am 8 days out of surgery so I was suprised but happy! I agree that these posts can be inspirational! It is great to read about what everyone else is going through and how they overcome obstacles!

I was banded on 8/6/09 at San Joaquin Community Hospital in Bakersfield California. The surgery was performed by Dr. Hormuz Irani. I know already that it was the best decision I have ever made for myself! Aside from being bored with the whole liquid and mushy stages I am doing great! I started feeling great and becoming more active on the 3rd day after my surgery. I am a teacher and was desperate to get the surgery done over the summer so that I did not miss work and everyone involved did everything they could to move things as quick as possible. I got my Psych eval 7/02, Nutrition eval 7/14, had my consult 7/17, nutrition and pre-op class 7/28 and surgery 8/6. Just over one month from start to surgery which is fantastic! Good luck to everyone in our banding community! Kristi:thumbup:

Thank you for the support! I have been experiment with the Water thing and I have found that if I am drinking ice tea (with sweet n low) I can sip and be done with 20 ounces before I even realize it! I am going to load some in water bottles to carry with me and take to work. I got the go ahead from the doctor today to eat solids and swim. I am really excited about both. I was suprised since it has only been 8 days!

Anyone having surgery tomorrow? 8/6/09

I had my first follow up visit with my doctor today and I got the clearance to swim, do any kind of cardio, lift up to 25 pounds, and my most exciting allowance is that I can eat solids! I am so excited since it has only been 8 days! I just have to chew extremely good and take it slow. And I have to watch my calories, 800-1000 and get 50-70 grams of Protein. I get my first fill on Sept 15th so I will have to go back on liquids for up to two weeks depending on how I handle everything. My challenge is staying hydrated enough. I found today that if I am drinking tea it is so much easier to get my fluids. I am so excited to be on this journey! I can't wait to see what I look like at the one year mark! -
did anyone start the mushy/pureed stage a day ahead?
kbecker replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On my guidelines they gave me it said at 1 week I could add mashed potatos, cream of wheat, baby food, well cooked veggies, veggie soup, and well-cooked Beans. The doctor mentioned the cottage cheese and scrambled eggs as something for my liquid stage which confused me but I ate it because I desperately wanted to chew and it was heavenly! I also ate the cream of wheat early just very runny and I have had zero problems! I am definetly waiting on the meats until I get the clearance from the doctor. i haven't thrown up yet and I do not want to start! -
Totally commando! No nail polish, deoderant, or anything! Hopefully your surgeon has done enough of these that he/she has seen it all as far as the coochie upkeep is concerned! No wories, they give you some good juice and it is over before you know it!

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor 3 1/2 weeks until surgery and I could use a buddy!

You are going through what I just went through! I had the band surgery on August 6th and I already know that I made the right decision. I have decide to share my experience with friends, family and coworkers but it is completely up to you who you tell! An option can be that you went through a lifestyle change and began eating less and healthier which is essentially what the surgery is helping you do. I have had an outpuring of support from everyone that I have told! I am 5' 1.5" and at the time of my consult I weighed 291. This has been difficullt so far, especially the protein drinks! I have found one that tastes like coffee and goes pretty good mixed with a chocolate flavor. My doctor lets patients taste what he sells. You can also buy powder that can be mixed into anything and is tasteless. My husband has been my only skeptic, more concerned that I will not be healthy due to starving myself! I plan on incorporating as many healthy changes as I can when I cook dinner so that he benefits as well as my kids. I still eat with them (or I drink for now!) and I plan on still enjoying going to dinner and all the other things I did, I just will order and eat carefully, chew well, and plan on having lots of leftovers to take home! Check for a support group in your area where you can talk to other people who are going through the ame journey as you! I have been able to speak to several people in person and I have not met anyone who regrets this decision! Good Luck and Be Strong! The surgery will be over before you know it and you will be well on your way to a healthy and happy life! -

Anyone having surgery tomorrow? 8/6/09

I was just wondering how everyone else is feeling. I am feeling really great!:w00t: I still have soreness when I sit up from laying down but otherwise all I feel is a tightness or pressure. I have begun doing basic housework and even went shopping. I just took my kids so I wasn't tempted to carry heavy bags. I have had zero vomiting and I am really excited by that!! I have my follow up visit on Friday with my doctor and I weigh in this Wed at the support center. I know by my scale that I have lost but I like their scale because it breaks down BMI and fat vs muscle weight. The hardest thing for me has been to drink enough water. I feel full after a few sips, yesterday I almost made 48 oz. I am trying for more today! How do I get one of those weight loss tickers to show up in my post? -

Hi everyone! I was banded on 08/06/09 and released from the hospital the next day. I am not very hungry and everything seems to go right through me. I have been drinking egg flower soup (strained), I also had a yogurt. My pain is very tolerable but I am finding that I need help getting up from the recliner which is where I can sleep comfortably. I usually sleep on my tummy so this is a challenge. I am not sure if I really need the help or if I am scared to hurt. I will be braver tomorrow.
