  1. Have you gotten any relief from some of the OTC antiacids? Mylanta or the other pill that actually keeps your tummy from producting acid (forget the name)?
  2. I have had one fill in 4 visits. They have been so pleased with my rate of loss, they tell me I dont need one. I really dont have much restriction though. Just after that first fill I had some, but mostly not now.
  3. In 1994 I fell 30 feet and hurt my back. I went to all the doctors, did all the therapy and no relief. Then on a fluke, I was shopping in B&N and came across a book called Back Care Basics. I purchased it and started doing the stretches (it is basically light yoga). I got better. After all the months suffering, all the time stuck in doctors offices feeling helpless, such a simple thing worked for me. Have you tried some yoga or stretching?
  4. If you cant get satisfaction from the bathroom scale, look for it in other areas. Start walking or running or lifting weights and set goals to either lift more or go father. Meeting those goals will help you feel some satisfaction.
  5. I have grilled or baked fish or chicken with veggies 2x a day. I still do a lot of Protein shakes (even though I know I should move on). For Snacks or in between larger meals I eat fruit and cheese or cottage cheese. And I also eat Breakfast cereals like barley, oatmeal and quinoa. And yogurt, eat a lot of yogurt. I am probably too dependant on the Protein Shakes. But they are so much easier than having to worry about what to eat.
  6. Beef isnt appealing me to at all anymore, no idea why. Even the smell of it cooking makes me feel sick.
  7. I felt mine. Especially the tubing, it felt "snakey". I asked my doc about it at the first check up and he told me eventually scar tissue would form around the band, tubing and port. So far it seems to be true. I do not notice the feelings of movment inside me anymore.

    Cereal?

I just want to ask people to do some research on MSG. It is what they use on lab animals to make them obese so they do research obesity. It is a horrible, horrible thing. They synthesized it here in the US and that is when it became a problem. If you look at the proliferation in our food supply, it matches the increase in obesity. It is especially dangerous for children. I am really not trying to push my beliefs on people, but it is just so important. McDonalds is always a terrible choice.

    Mii and my Wii!

The ladies are great at Curves. It isnt as hard a workout as my guy puts me though, but it does get me moving.

    Cereal?

If you are looking for a breakfast out, try Starbucks vivano Protein drink. Or they sometimes have a Naked brand Protein Drink (only drink 1/2 at a time). Not to preach but McDonalds is full of MSG which is addictive and causes your blood sugar to spike. McDonalds is the second worst offender with the MSG after KFC. Ever wondered why you CRAVE it like a smoker craves a cigarette? :smile2:
  11. No idea. I could tell you what he did, but in the end I have no idea why he looks so good. Luck, genetics, melanin, hard work, diet? I guess all we can do is the best we can do and go from there.
  12. My guy lost close to 200 lbs (without the band) and doesnt have the loose skin I have seen on other who have lost less. As for me, I dont think I will be that lucky. I am older, was overweight longer and have a fair complexion. Right now I am not planning on having it, but I just have to wait and see how much difficulty I have once I have stabilized at goal for at least a year (my criteria).
  13. I have only vomited once and havent pb'd at all. I ate 2 greenbeans too quickly and they had to come right back up. It wasnt a full on vomit, but it was bad enough I learned my lesson. Made a true believer out of me.
  14. This isnt even true. Jesus. And arent you the one who was telling everyone else how "invalid" their opinions were? I know for a fact this isnt true because my STD has gone down due to low incidents. My current coverage costs me 11.96 per paycheck. Last year it was 15.92. Just looked it up cause I recall vividly getting an email telling us it was going down due to decreased claims. And that doesnt even take into consideration companies who self pay insurance as mine does. They simply pay an insurance agency to process the claims they pay. My LTD comes thru my union and it has gone down 4 years straight.

    Attack

Start replacing those old bad food habits with healthy habits. Next time you find yourself obsessing with food, get up and take a walk, do some exercises or meditations. In the beginning you will have to do it on will power, but eventually your brain will take over and you will do it more on instinct. When I first started, I got up and took a walk when I felt the urge to eat that wasnt physical hunger. It has really helped me tremendously. You have to start replacing those old bad habits with new healthy habits and now is the perfect time. While the restrictions are fresh and more sever, it is easier to make better choices. For me anyways.
  16. First step, find a good doctor with lots of experience. They will have the insurance requirements down. They know all the ins and outs and how to best get a yes from the insurance company.
  17. Pick yourself up, dust off your ego and start again. We all have missteps. But so much of this is mind driven. If you keep telling yourself it is a struggle, it will be. Start telling yourself, "I got this!" and then do everything in your power not to make a liar out of yourself.
  18. I know this is late but wanted a chance to add a different perspective. You seem to think the change in interpretation of policy is based on you, but there is a chance that it is based on someone else. We have uniforms at work. I was wearing some self bought womens pants (rather than the company issued male uniform pants). I have worn them for years. Suddenly I was being told I had to wear the company issued stuff. It didnt have anything to do with me or my bosses perception of me. It had to do with someone else who WAS dressing innapropriately getting counseled on their dress. That person felt singled out and it made them force everyone to follow the letter of the law (so to speak) on their uniform policy. So, dont take it so personally. There is always the chance you are being drug into someone elses battle. Ask for the written policy and just follow it. Best way to keep yourself out of trouble and out of the limelight.

    September 2009 Band Date

I over ate for the first time tonight. Ugh, I feel miserable. I stopped at a diner and ordered a bowl of chili and I was sitting eating and reading a book. I was trying to finish the book before I went home (because I had stuff to do and didnt know when I would get back to it). The waiter without asking and without my noticing picked up my empty bowl and sat a new one at my table. I ate two bowls of chili and am really feeling it now. When I was checking out I told the waiter that it wasnt sitting well on my stomach and he said he probably shoudnt have brought me that second bowl. I was was like . Dammit!!!! I gotta be more mindful.
  20. You do realize that by telling people their opinions are invalid because they dont have MD behind their names, it pretty much invalidates your own argument, right?

Does anyone color their own hair?

If it were me, I would live with it for at least a week and see if it doesnt change enough on its own. If after that I still couldnt stand it, I would try a temp shade over it. BUT....I have really long hair and keeping my length is my priority. And I have lots of gray and still use ash tones. I dont mind the woodsy green brown. My eyes are a strange combo of green, gold and brown. If I use any color with gold or warm tones, it brings out the old and they look kinda pea greenish (not at all flattering). Ash brings out the green, much better for me.
  22. I saved up my paid vacation to use for post surgery leave. I have short term and long term disability but it honestly never occurred to me to use STD. I am so use to covering my sick leave with vacation, sad isnt it?

    The Card...Do you have one?

I dont have a restraunt card, I have a medical ID card. It has information at by band and my surgeon. At the very bottom it says "Note to restraunts: Please allow this person to order smaller portions, as the amount of food this persona can eat has been greatly reduced". The package I got from the doctor on surgery day had a punch-out temp card I used to go onto the Lap Band manufacturers site and register, and then they sent the permanent one. While mine does have the restraunt note on it, it is basically a medical alert card so in case of accident or emergency, they know I have a lapband, its size and my surgeon.

Where is the love on here

I too felt/feel like I was talking into a canyon and gettin nuttin back but an echo. This site is very clicky, imho.
  25. I dont like the artifical sweeteners either. Like someone else posted, agave nectar is nice. I also use Stevia. I had to get use to the taste of it though. And if I absolutely have to have some sweets, sometimes I do go on and eat the regular sugar sweetened stuff. I just do so carefully and limit them. I have real adverse reactions to the chlorinated sugar sweetener (cant recall its brand name right now). So I have been avoiding the artificial sweeteners for several years now. Well before I was banded.
