What do you wish someone had told you BEFORE your surgery?
minimeme replied to Jennerator's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish someone would have told me how much I might hurt after surgery. It was very, very painful for me. I wish someone would have told me that my insurance might be billed close to $200,000. While my out of pocket didnt increase, it does take away from my life time limit. I am a long term employee who will probably be in my job until I retire and there is a very good chance I will run out of my health benefits prior to retiring. I wish someone would have told me how scary and painful it is when food gets stuck. I have only had one episode which resolved by my throwing up 2 greenbeans, but for the short time it was stuck it was very frightening. My doctor did stress this is only a tool and that people can gain their weight back. They also did speak about how many people only loose a fraction of their needed weight with the band. Most wont loose 100% of the extra weight like the bypass and sleeve patients do. I am thankful they were honest about it. -
Starbucks banana chocolate vivanno Protein drink. 1 oz white cheddar cheese, 1 oz summer sausage, 1 small clementine. Naked protein drink Bowl of Carrabbas Mamma Mandolas chicken soup with the Pasta picked out and 2 pomegranit martinis. Would have been an excellent day if not for the martinis. :tt1:

After surgery, what items could you have not lived without?
minimeme replied to krstjump03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The best thing I bought post surgery during recovery was sugar free jello pops. I cant tell you how those cold things helped my sore stomach. -
I have some chocolate granola cereal I eat with chocolate almond milk when I get a craving for chocolate and/or crunchy sweet. If you are able to control potions, it is good for an occasional snack. But if you are still having problems with portions, buying a single candy bar might be a better choice. But the granola is really, really good and satisfying.

Cheating..No, not with food!
minimeme replied to kimalicious's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My first husband cheated. He wasnt just looking for a bit of tail, he wanted a whole nother household. He wasnt looking for the sex on the side like most. I have never been able to understand his malfunction. I could understand a mistress more than a second household. And it had absolutely nothing to do with me. It wasnt that I wouldnt/couldnt/didnt do this or that for him. I was good, WE were good. He was just damaged in some way I have never been able to understand. -
I love the cold weather. My thermostat is set at 55-60. Living in hell, I mean texas, I have to enjoy the cold weather for the few days it is here.

Why are you losing weight?
minimeme replied to btrieger's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have lupus and after each episode it became harder and harder to get around. I was afraid there would come a day when I couldnt get out of bed. Being overweight makes it so much more difficult. I actually am one of the few people who never hated being overweight. I think I look just fine. And it helps to keep away the insincere people. -
September 2009 Band Date
minimeme replied to ashleysara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am officially more than half way to goal. A quick look on this thread and it seems most are half way there, whether they needed to loose 80 or 180 lbs. I guess the first 3 months or so are the honeymoon period where it just comes of maybe? Hope everyone is healthy and happy. Keep working towards your goals and keep your faith. -
Anyone start with a BMI over 50 and not be successful with Lap-Band?
minimeme replied to Spaz80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you should find people who are at least 2 years out from banding to see how "successful" they are. My BMI was over 50 and I have lost a great deal of weight. But that doesnt mean I am successful. Success, for me at least, comes after maintaining for some time. There are days when I wish I would have looked harder at the sleeve. It seems it would be a much easier lifestyle. But then again, I have no experience to draw from on this. -
So women are valued for their attractiveness to men. Nothing new there. It goes on right here on this very board, even amongst us women.

I had an uncle years ago who was an alcoholic. When he finally decided to stop drinking, he started gambling. He actually became a bookie and would sit in front of 4 TVs watching all the games with a bank of telephones (this was pre-cell phone days). He use to brag how he wasnt truly an alcoholic because he was able to give it up. Even at my early age I recall thinking he didnt give up anything, he simply switched vices. food has been my vice for years. All of my family is slim, but most have alcohol or drug addiction issues. Mine was always food. It has worried me some that I might just pick up a different vice, rather than truly give up over eating. Luckily so far I have been able to control my behavior and exercise (at least for now) seems to be my drug of choice. Has anyone else had any issues with picking up another bad vice post obesity surgery?

I use Tangerine, but there are several. Here is a screen shot of the Tangerine...

Hi, we have about the same amount of weight to loose. I hope your journey goes as smoothly as mine has so far.

I have a program that makes play lists for me. It is a beats-per-minute counter. I put in my ramp up time, my max time and then my ramp down time and it makes a play lists to fit it.

This is the only one I belong to and I have to say from reading some of the threads on this forum (especially in the rant and rave section), some are obviously bouncing off the walls on the internet. Posting on this forum has got to be one of the most mentally and emotionally taxing I have ever participated in. The trade off is information I need. I see a lot of control issues being played out on the forum.

Is your goal weight still considered 'overweight'?
minimeme replied to juliansmom2003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yeah, my goal is 175 and I am 5' 10". So my BMI would be 25.1. I was 135 in high school but I just dont want to be that thin again. -
How Do You Log Your Calories?
minimeme replied to zobee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Lose it and Fit Day. -
When I eat chinese, I order a side of steamed veggies instead of rice. I can eat it several times if I take home the left overs. I eat less than 1/4 of what I would have before surgery. Romanos macaroni Grill has a simply salmon diner that I can eat 3 times. It is grilled salmon, broccoli and asparagus. The total calories for the diner is around 400. I also eat at Carrabbas and have either their grilled salmon or their chicken gratella with the brocolli and/or the spinach. I can eat them 2 or 3 times also. But I do have issues with the left over chicken being almost too dry. Most of these places are about $15 a plate. With tip, you are looking at about $20. But I can eat them several times, not just once and I am saving on drinks because I cant drink and while I am eating. If I go with my sister or another person who doesnt eat much, we will split a plate.

Guiding Light (US Soapopera) just started a storyline with the lapband
minimeme replied to TheGh0st's topic in The Lounge
Here is a link to her weight loss with pics. She lost over 100 lbs. Caitlin Van Zandt On Shedding Nearly 100 Pounds -
You have to know when someone tells you are someone it is probably half truth by the time it gets to you. LOL :blushing: I dont think the band can cut the stomach, never heard of it personally. But it can erode into the stomach over time. There is plenty of information out there about lapband complications. Check out the forum here or google it.

Should people barely over 200 lbs or below 200 get Lapband or any WLS...?
minimeme replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I voted dont know and dont care. Everyone is an individual. Let the doctors decide. I had a close girlfriend who was the same height and same weight as I was. She wore a size 32, I wore a 22. Personally, I think BMI is very rudimentary. There is so much more that goes into health than weight/BMI. -
First off, are you able to get rid of all the food in your cabinets that is off limits right now? It is much harder to cheat if you have to work to do it. Also, you went thru such a serious operation, now you got to just buck up and do it. Now is the most important time. It is easy to fall back into bad habits, start making some good ones instead. Next time you feel like you are gonna eat something wrong, go take a walk, ride your bike, do some meditation/prayer exercises, do anything but just dont eat.
