    September 2009 Band Date

I was scheduled for a fill today but they said I was doing good and didnt need one. This was my 3rd appointment and I have only had one fill. My goal was 60lbs a year. I honestly hope it starts slowing down some. I would rather go slow and come out looking better than to go super fast and wind up looking worse for the wear. I am still doing a lot of liquids. The liquids are pretty much out of laziness, I dont have to think about what to eat.

Not losing weight - very frusterated

It is an unfortunately truth that the less you have to loose, the harder you have to work at it. I have a lot to loose and it is falling off much, much quicker than I am comfortable with. I am sure once I get down to my last 50 lbs it will be a struggle much like you are going thru. If you read on the official site for the lap-band, I believe somewhere on it I read that the band really only helps you loose 80% of the excess. The last 20% is much, much harder.

    Possible erosion...

Hang in there sweetie. Wishing for the best for you.
  4. LOL, thats cute. I have had knee surgery where they didnt put me under. But I slept thru it anyways.
  5. No, first on me. But I was concerned because I am allergic to metal. Even some surgical grade metals break me out. Thankfully, no issues for me.
  6. You cannot control what other people are gonna think or say. This is gonna be one of those things where you will get nothing out of holding on to. In fact, it will do you harm to continue holding on to the ill feelings.
  7. My suggestion is get up and go exercise when they come in to eat. My friends and family tease me all the time, I just keep a sense of humor about it and when it gets to be too much, I go for a walk.

    Advice with giving up soda?

I gave up soda several years before banding. It is amazing how much better I felt once i stopped. Now I do teas. Iced tea can be purchased pretty much everywhere here. And herbal teas at home. Hibiscus tea is one of my favorites.

i cant sleep on my back

Definitely ask your doctor. I was having pain and snakey feelings inside and he said until the scar tissue forms around the port, I would have some pain and weird feelings.
  10. I am in the beginning also. What I do is I take a walk when it happens. I am trying to break the habit of eating and replace it with exercising.
  11. I was going to go to my families, but decided not to. I volunteered to work so some others could have it off.
  12. Oh, just wanted to add that walking really, really, really helps. So dust off those walking shoes because you are going to need them within a day of surgery.
  13. I hurt! OMG, I hurt! No one told me it was going to hurt so bad. And I do have a high tolerance for pain. I walked around on a broken foot for 3 weeks and the doctors couldnt believe it. I broke my pelvis. I know what pain is and this was definitely painful for me. Thank God for opiates. I wish I would have had people tell me it might hurt because I sure wasnt expecting it. It felt like I got hit by a truck. They had to give me pain medication in my IV before I could walk, and then they gave me to drink before I left. And I filled 2 bottles of pain meds and drank them both within the week.
  14. 1. Remembering the pain. I hurt after surgery! I WONT do anything that will cause me to need more surgery. So I limit my meal size even though I could physically eat much more as I have only had one fill. 2. Limit carbs, especially bad carbs. Some things spiral my hunger out of control. Out of control hunger is a dangerous thing for me. 3. And do not drink with your meals. You will defeat the affect of having a band. liquids will wash the food past your band without triggering your satisfaction. And if no one has told you yet, that satisfied feeling is so wonderful. I havent felt that in decades. But it is still an effort because my habit still wants me to eat.

    Solids....Now what?

I eat 1/2 a cup 5-6 times a day. I cant take the hunger when I try to stick to only 3 meals. For me, the important part is to limit the size, 1/2 cup only, and eat more frequently to keep the hunger at bay. I also try real hard to limit my carb intake because it really affects my hunger. I was drinking 4 oz of unsweetened cranberry juice in the morning with my Vitamins and had to stop. It was really triggering my hunger bad. I also noticed when I try to eat the frozen diet dinners, they spin my hunger out of control also because most are calorie limited and high in carbs. But I could be doing this all wrong. I am just trying to do the best I can and make it thru the day. If I get too hungry, I tend to gulp and get into trouble.

    Totally disgusted

Sweetie, if you are frustrated now it is only gonna get much worse before it gets better. Once you transition to solid food, before you get enough fills, you are not going to be loosing hardly at all. I have read where people say not to step on the scale every day, but I do. Each morning the first thing I do is weigh myself. I also have a cheap set of ring sizers and I size my fingers when I am bloating (so I can tell how much Water I am really carrying). The daily weighing helps me to keep on track. If I see the scale go up, I know to reevaluate my daily meal plans. And, if i didnt fully understand what they were telling me when they said this is simply A TOOL, I do now. All it does is help me eat less and be more mindful of what I put in my mouth. But the daily decisions of what I put in my mouth are still all mine. This isnt a gastric bypass. It is different.

  18. I was just thinking about how my breakfast has changed. Every morning I would go to McDonalds and eat a McSkillet burrito and a large iced coffee. There were over 900 calories in my breakfast. Today i start my day with a Starbucks Vivanno and it has 270 calories. Today I had the Vivanno for breakfast at 270 calories, ate the simple salmon with grilled asparagus and brocolli at Romanos Macaroni Grill (ate half and saved the other half for dinner) for about 600 calories. And my snacks were a drinkable yogurt for 60 calories, and half an apple with a slice of cheddar cheese for under 200 calories. My intake for the day is about 1200 calories.
  19. I have had 2 different types of stuck. One was where I ate 2 green Beans quickly and didnt chew them properly. I was so sick until the vomited. And it was a horrible sick. I was sweating and had a terrible pain in my chest. You get a very sick, panic-y feeling. I threw up foam and finally vomited the 2 green beans. The second was eating the wrong food. I ate one bite of a chicken briand (french puff pastry with chicken) and it immediately got lodged in my throat. I didnt vomit with this but it was fairly painful for a good 30 minutes or so (as compared to the few minutes on the green beans). I have to make sure I dont get over hungry. I am just so hungry all the time and if I go more than a couple hours between eating something, I eat like a starved dog and gulp. Believe me, once you have an episode of food getting stuck, you dont want it to ever happen again.
  20. Did you drink with your meals? My doc said no drinking with meals but never said why. Then I read a book about lap-bands and it says drinking with meals will cause the food to go right thru the band and you wont get your full sensation. I have had one fill and I can tell I am restricted only when I do not drink with meals.

So, no one has any words for me?:seeya: Not even a "hope you feel better soon"? My stomach is really hurting with what can be best described as hunger pains.

    September 2009 Band Date

Tonight I started getting hunger pains really bad. I have been sitting at my desk playing games when my stomach started growling. It has gotten increasingly worse. I tried drinking some tea. Then I tried a shake and it only seems to be getting worse. It is making very loud growling noises. Anyone else with this problem?
  23. Thank you for showing your pics. You will never know how much it helps to see someone has done what I need to do.

  24. I was so very afraid also. I am now 4 days post op. I am glad I went thru with it, but I have to be honest n say that it was more painful that what I thought it would be.
