    4 Day banding surgery experience

Yeah David, it definitely wasn't fun. On the bright side though, it sure gave my weight loss a jump start. One week after the FIRST surgery, I'm down 18#.
  4. So I go in Monday morning 9/21 for my band. All goes well, I'm sipping water a few hours later, try a little broth, all seems good. I check out and go home. (BCBS had authorized inpatient, but I knew I'd be more comfy at home). At home I have a bit of broth, and a nap. A bit of water and broth when I wake and then the pain started. Upper chest pain, hiccups, trying to burp. I assume I drank too fast and will just need to tough it out for an hour or so. 4 hours later it's even worse. The Doc says to go back to the hospital and he'll admit me. At the ER they do an EKG and chest x-ray for precautions. By then I'm throwing up what looks like foamy soap. My Doc decides that the band he installed was maybe a bit small, but wants to see if the swelling will go down. I stayed in the hospital from Monday night until Thursday night with nothing by mouth, not even an ice chip. Finally my Dr decides to install a different band and we got that done about 10pm Thur night. Was out of the hospital by Friday afternoon. All is great since then. I did lose 10lbs during the time I was in the hospital and have dropped 4 more lbs sonce coming home. Oh well, at least I know what awaits me if I ever push the envelope and try to overload my new stomach.

    My 4 day surgery experience...

Travel - He did use the same incisions. Not terribly sore. I didn't have any painkillers yesterday until bedtime. Feeling great today. Thanks for the good wishes.

    men banded in september 09

My date is next Monday (Sept 21). A little nervous, a lot excited. Managing my weight has always been a problem for me. Even when I was hitting the gym 5-6 times a week for 2+ hours I could only get down to 180#. At 5'6" that's still heavy. So, I'm looking forward to having this tool to help me. I really hope to get off the blood pressure and cholesterol meds...and dodge the blood sugar issue that is trending up over the last 4-5 years.

    September 2009 Band Date

My date is Sept 21. Can't wait. No idea if there will be a pre-op diet, but the doc only does those with very high BMIs, so i should be ok. 225 on my way down to 165!
