  1. Also calculate your calories and be sure you are getting in 600-800. If you are below that, your metabolism might have slowed too much. Bump up to 600-800 and see what happens.
  2. It will be helpful if you plan on gong to Mexico for the surgery, to learn at least a little spanish before you go, or take someone with you who speaks spanish. I speak/understand a little, and even so, during the night when the nurses did not know any english at all, it was difficult to communicate several times. The day nurses were very fluent in english.
  3. Some people call Isopure "isopuke". I am one of those people. I added 1/4 bottle to my clear fluids during the first 10 days post op, just to get in some protein...but could not stomach it "straight up">
  4. Norma, How are you doing now?

  5. southernlawyer, I'm with you on the artificial saliva. Sounds too yucky to me. I'll just keep swishing water thank you!
  6. Joon, I don't know if he has any lower limits but you should be hearing from Nina very soon. It does not take long to get feedback after you submit your paperwork. Best of luck to you!

    My Intro/Story

Where there is a will, there is always a way! congratulations on finding your way and I wish you the very best future! Wish I had started on this journey when I was young like you!
  8. Lucygoose, By the way, I love your name. Really cute. Bad news is, from what I've learned most are nasty, or at least leave a nasty aftertaste. Good news is, there are some that are palatable...but people have different tastes. Some swear by one kind and other folks can't stand it. Personally, I love the Jay Robb chocolate whey Protein powder mix. I add a splash of banana extract to it, and mix it in fat free lactaid milk in my blender. Sometimes I add some nutrient-dense fruit as well...papaya is a favorite of mine.. You can get the single use packet at GNC. It does come in different flavors so if you want to try several you can without investing an arm and a leg. It's the only way to get in adequate protein in the first month or two after surgery, when you can't eat much. I hope you find something you like. Read more on protein powders on this forum and you'll find favorites from other posters.
  9. WOW! One week every month! I wish I worked there!:001_smile:
  10. I went alone, and was picked up at the airport by Dr Aceves' driver, he takes you to Mexicali, and back to the airport. No need to worry about any transportation. It was a great package. Do you speak any Spanish?
  11. I've had knee surgery, gallbladder surgery, hysterectomy, and a VSG. The VSG was the least painful, least painful, and was done by the best surgeon I have ever had. It was the only surgery I've ever had in Mexico, and I wish I could have had ALL of them there.

Had a GOOD day today :))

    That is so cool.
  13. Ditto that. But it's a good example of what we do...I know I am guilty...of mindless eating. Before you know it, the whole bag of (whatever) is GONE. Now that I am sleeved, that has stopped for the most part. There have been a few instances where I have taken a big gulp of whatever I was drinking, without realizing it...but my sleeve promptly "woke up" and "screamed" at me....STOP THAT!! I listen, believe you me! Mindful, aware eating is best.

    Jeans

Thanks! I wear jeans most of the time so I'll enjoy them and pass them on when I outgrow them.
  15. The only discomfort was a couple of days when it was very hot outside, my room was a little warm. But I asked for and received a nice fan which really was perfect. The housekeepers are constantly, (and i mean constantly) mopping and cleaning. It was the cleanest hospital I have ever been in, and I'm a 30+ year nurse. There were about 10 rooms on the bariatric wing, and OB postpartal patients were on an adjoining hallway. the ICU was upstairs. It's not a huge hospital, quite new and very nicely decorated. Every room has a TV, a leather sofa where your companion can sleep if they wish and a nice private bathroom/shower.
  16. Jay Robb Whey ProteinPowder. No artificial sweeteners. Uses Stevia. I love the chocolate.

    Friday the big day

That's one reason I did not tell my family, did not want to have to deal with drama and misconceptions. I did my research, went alone, and am enjoying the results. 40 lbs lost!
  18. The most experienced in the USA are Cirangle and Jossart in San Francisco. They do a lot of research as well. My choice was Dr Aceves in Mexicali, Mexico, near San Diego. He also has a great deal of experience and excellent, low complication rates. I was told he has never had any leaks, which is better than the SF statistics, even though theirs are still excellent. I am not financially endowed so with Aceves rates being half that of Cirangle, I chose him. I was very pleased. He seems to be more conservative in that he keeps patients in the hospital for 4 days and performs 3 leak tests. He also oversews the staple line. He is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. See credentials at Bariatric Surgeon Profile - Alberto Aceves M.D., F.A.C.S.

I'm interested! I'll "grow into" them!
  20. Yippiee Hooray for you Chancie. How fantastic. Soon you will have a new, sassy wardrobe for your new, sassy bod!
  21. It sounds like you are getting all the right care to facilitate healing...I hope everything settles down for you soon and your nausea subsides. Luckily you called your doctor early and got this taken care of before it was worse.

    honey question

I don't think honey is a good idea...too many calories...stimulates insulin production which is not good for you...no nourishment...you need better nutrients, not empty calories. Your sleeve told you it did not like it! Listen to that smart sleeve!
  23. I am six weeks out from surgery and have lost 40 lbs. Am at a stall for the past week. This happens...you can expect it so don't get upset when the scales don't move periodically. The body needs to adjust a bit.
