  1. I am really curious to know if any one had Dr. Hornbostel from Sedalia, Missouri? Especially using Medicare insurance? Thanks so much, ~Patti
  2. Just a question on these same grounds...does Medicare have a mandatory supervised diet, and if so... how long?? That would sure help me kill the time! lol ~Patti

How do you stand the wait?

Thanks for the help you guys, you are awesome! I know that when I get into classes on the 23rd I will not have time to even realize I am waiting! That is a great idea to practice eating like banded, I never thought of that! <duh!> I hope that I don't get denied and have to appeal on top of everything else :cry . I will just keep my chin up and think positive! Thanks for the support, glad to know that I am not alone! ~Patti

    Quit smoking for before WLS?

I am proud to say that I quit smoking on March 18th and am very very very proud of myself. I did not use any quit smoking devices, I quit cold turkey. I know how hard it is to stay quit in times of stress, I just always try to remember that my stress doesn't go away when I smoke, just my lung capacity does. LOL I smoked three packs a day for 15 years, no small habit to quit. Last month I buried my father, he died of lung cancer. It was a horrible feeling to be standing in front of my daddy's casket thinking I desperately needed a cigarette. However, the sad irony of it did make me realize exactly how hard the drug is to quit! I wish all of you the best of luck and if you are lucky enough to have your Dad, hug him for me! Good luck you all!! ~Patti

    Clothing exchange

Hey Vinesqueen, you might have her check on e-bay as well. I get all of my clothes on e-bay and have always had lots of luck getting cheap clothes there. Size 16 short or petite is actual a pretty common size on there as well. I wish her the best, I hope that helps. ~Patti

    80% Divorce Rate!!!!!!!!!

Hi All, I just wanted to add that we have to keep in mind that divorce rates among NON WLS are also elevated. As part of my Master's program in Psychology, I deal with a lot of statistics and I can promise you that they can vary as much as 30% depending on where you get the stats or whom you speak with. Non WLS divorce rates have been stated as anywhere from 55% to 80% (depending on many variables such as years together, # of children, etc)...this rate will then increase by as much as 32% if this is a second marriage. Anyway, this long post (sorry! lol) was to point out that I don't want those WLS stats to scare people, they are probably relatively the same as the risk of divorce in non WLS. Hope this helps! ~Patti :nervous

    Hi everyone!

You guys are awesomely helpful!! I have to say I really needed the help on the numbers and some initials! DH was driving me crazy!!! I kept thinking, how many of these guys play baseball??? And why do they spend time with the designated hitters.....HEHEHHEHE SURE, NOW it all makes sense! LOL Thanks so much! Patti:biggrin1:
  10. Hi all! My name is Patti and I have just attended my seminar and started my paperwork. This forum has been such a huge help for me, you all are an inspiration! I have spent countless hours lurking in the corner and was going to wait until I had my banding...but common sense says it may take a really long time to get my date, so I wanted to come in and say hi and meet my new friends and support system! Hope to be a big loser soon!! ~Patti

What does everyone do for a living?

Hi all, I am finishing my Master's in Industrial Organizational Psychology. I work at the college I attend as a Psychology, Math, Biology and Physics tutor. My "main" job is spending lots of hours studying! I have managed a 4.0 throughout my entire college career and I am determined to stay that way. It helps that I went back to school older! lol I attend the same college that both of my kids attend (it doesn't bother me, but they aren't doing back flips over it! LOL) I am getting banded so that I can get a job when I finish my education, without size discrimination! ~Patti

    Hi everyone!

Hi Cindy! Thanks for the welcome! I saw someone use initials on a post....I think it was NVS? I can't remember exactly. Would you know what that stood for. Sorry if I have the wrong initials! lol Also, sometimes there are 4 sets of numbers by a name, and sometimes 3, what is the difference? Thanks for the help! Patti

    What am I doing wrong?

Okay, I have to ask...How do you all know all of this info on food??? I know that you learn as you go, but does everyone who has the surgery get diet info and perhaps a dietician? I just want to make sure that I absorb as much info from you all as I can so I will be successful for my banding! Thanks so much! Patti

    Medicare certificate of excellance

Hey NeNe, did you go to the seminar in Aug in Sedalia??? If you did, I was there too!! I live in Warrensburg, MO. and attended the seminar Tuesday night. I don't know if there is a way to E-mail on here?? I would love to chat. I am sorry if I made that post a little too personal, I was not sure how to get in touch with you. : ) I would like to add that it is wonderful for me that I have Medicare and a center for excellence only 28 miles away, after reading all these posts...I see how lucky I truly am to have the center, and so close! ~Patti

I Passed Out During My Fill

I can't wait to get approval to get banded, but I am really afraid of the fills. I don't mind needles unless you have to move it around under the skin (like your experience). Is there anything I can do to avoid this from happening? I know I am putting the cart before the horse (since I am not even banded! lol), I just don't like surprises and am just a little uncomfortable with the thought of laying on the floor like a rug! lol Thanks! Patti
