Kirstin, I will start my pre-op diet in two weeks and am really dreading it! I too will be banded my Dr. Ortiz. Is the pre-op diet really bad? I was told that you can eat dinner the night before surgery, is that correct? I think they just don't understand how hard being over weight is. my husband was always supportive as were my children but some of the other family members weren't. They think I will change somehow.Some think you have to be fat to be jolly! I may be jolly on the outside but it's killing me inside, plus all the health issuses we have with being over weight! My family,( husband and kids ) are very supportive but some of my other family and friends arent. I find the ones who are over weight give me the hardest time, maybe its because with me being fat it dont bother them as much, I dont know, sometimes it really hurts my feelings by what they say, like " you should think of your kids, what if somthing happens!" well hello! I have diabetes and hypertension. I could die of a stroke or have kidney failure any time! Sometimes I think people just dont get it. I was going to be banded by Dr. Brice but my insurance would not approve me,so I will be going to Mexico the end of this month. Dr. Brice was great, as was his staff, I wish things could of worked out but it was going to be hard too come up with $1500. So I chose Dr. Ortiz and I think I will be very pleased.

Thanks everyone! That helps a lot. I also take a time release med and was worried about how I was going to do it. I really don't want to change medications but I guess I will if I have too. This is such a great site, I love it! I feel like I know all of you. okiegirl

I was just wondering how do you take medication after being banded? Does everything have to be in liquid form? What if the medication does not come in liquid.:confused: okiegirl

Hi pjk! I did everything( physical,psyc. eval.,sleep study, cardic and stress test) THEN my insurance denied me! I was sooo mad. My BMI was not high enough (38) So anyway I decided to research Mexico and found Dr. Ortez. I am scheduled for Sept 1st. This is self pay but so less the hassel. I hope your insurance goes through with no problem. Good luck! okiegirl
