    Couch to 5K

I wear the "Enel" sport bra. Found it after a lot of research. It is amazing....no moving at all when running. Here's the raving about it that convinced me to spend the $54: Featured on Oprah and on the TODAY Show. The folks at SELF magazine say, "Working out can really be painful if you’re not wearing the right bra. For women with a D cup, their breasts can bounce more than 4-1/2 inches while they’re jogging. From all that bouncing, your breast skin stretches, which leads to sagging over the long term. Hands down, this bra tested the best for motion control for larger sizes. Women with a larger-sized chest need substantial fabrics, straps that are at least 1 inch wide, a higher neckline, wider rib bands and a really sturdy cup. This bra really holds you in — you won’t move at all!" Prevention Magazine October 2003 says "worth every penny" On Oprah's personal "O List" of a few things she thinks are just great. As Oprah says, "Once you get yourself hooked into this thing, believe me they're not going anywhere." Real Simple Magazine April 2003 says "Straps won't dig into shoulders and help in controlling bounce... One DD size tester said, "This is the only bra I can do jumping jacks in." Night time snacking problem...help!

We don't have kids, so this might not work for everyone but we've removed everything sweet, salty or junk from the house with the exception of one bag of miniature Dove dark chocolate bars. They're about 40 calories each and if you eat them slowly and let them melt on your tongue for the full "mouth experience" the craving for chocolate and munchies disappear (for us anyway). We allow ourselves 2 per person as an after dinner treat. (DH is banded as well and is as much a chocoholic as me).

    OOH! A new forum!

Hi there Lanie, Congrats on the recent banding! I hear you about the over 40 losing weight issue....the fat seemed to have been stuck on with gorilla glue after I turned 40 :faint:

    OOH! A new forum!

Rose, great plan on getting new bikes! It was about 8 weeks after surgery before I was comfortable on the bike and much longer before my butt quit hurting after a ride :omg:....but it was all worth it. I've even taken up running (very slow jogging if ya wanna know the truth) but I'm enjoying mixing up the exercise. Keep us posted!

    OOH! A new forum!

I noticed there are several who are fairly new in the Forties group. Hang in there, I promise it will get easier and more "natural" over time. This is hubby and I before banding and also during a bike race we were in last year. So far DH has lost about 80 lbs and I've lost 60ish....and we are still losing.

    OOH! A new forum!

Hi all, I'm Lisa, I'm 46, banded since September 2006. My husband is also banded so we have a built-in support system....although he gets tired of my nagging when I tell him he's snacking too much  Glad to meet everyone!

    Discouraged

Please don't get discouraged. For many a big wieght loss will be followed by no loss or even a gain. The body is adjusting to the new food intake, new level of exercise....a lot of new stuff is happening in our bodies. And remember that if you're exercising consistently you're building muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat so while a weight loss may not show up on the scale your body is physically getting smaller. I've been banded for about 15 months and had many times where I haven't lost an ounce for several months....but then the weight loss will start up again. I still haven't figured out what triggers a plateau. So, keep doing what you're doing and be sure to count those NSVs (non-scale victories)!....Good luck on your journey

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

I would agree. But you might want to go to you local bike store, get fitted, see what you like and then hop on Craig's list to see if you can find the same bike for much less money. Lots of people buy bikes that they end up selling after a year or two of hanging out in the garage not being ridden!

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Hi Babygirl, The race was punishing for a 46 year old (did I say that???) :omg: Walking the next day was not fun....but our goal was to finish and we did, so we're gearing up to do it again next year!

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Hey B, We live in Dallas too. Just went to the race for the weekend. Since you're into biking if you're ever in Maui be sure to do the 30 mile ride DOWN the volcano! We were in Hawaii over Thanksgiving and that ride was amazing! The bikes were steel frames and weighed about 50 pounds. At first I thought the bikes were clunkers until we got on....you literally point it down the mountain and fly! It was a trip. The ride was from the top of the volcano (where it was about 35 degrees) to the beach (where the temps were in the upper 70s).

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Thanks B it was a blast. It was at Rocky Hill Ranch which is a mountain biking ranch just outside of Austin. It was an "adventure race" so it was 4 miles of trail running and 10 miles of mountain biking on some of the scariest mt bike trails I've ever been on (granted I've only been mt biking for about 6 month). At the end of the race we had to complete a "surprise event"...we had to take the front tires off of our bikes and run with the frame for another 1.5 miles! INSANE!!!

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Not only are we cycling but we've even done a mountain bike race and came in 3rd in the master's category (the over 40 old farts division) :-) This is us before lapband: During the race:

    Is your wife banded ??

Sorry for invading "the men's room"! My husband and I are both banded. He did his 15 months before mine. It's great being banded together.

    5'6" - What weight/size are you?

    I'm 5'6" and weigh 145 (banded Sept 2006). I wear a size 8 now.
  20. I could drink beer (or any carbonation) until my last fill. Now it is super painful and the bubbles come back up like a mini-PB. Since everyone is different you might be ok with it.
  21. My husband and I are banded and are still both works in progress. Steve was banded March 2005 and I had surgery Sept 2006. Steve's BMI started at 40.1 and is down to 30.2. I started at about 205 and am down to 145ish....and finally a size 8!! But the best thing is we're off the couch and back into life....the last pic is a mountain bike race from October 2007. We finished 3rd in the Master's Group...(that's the over 40 old farts) :clap2: All dressed up At my heaviest July 2007 with our grandson Mt bike race
  22. The day I had band surgery there was a woman at the surgery center to support her friend who was also being banded that day. The supportive friend had her band surgery 15 years ago in France. She looked great and told us she had never had problems with it.
  23. Hi all, My one year band anniversay is tomorrow and I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for such an informative and helpful site. I'm down 60 lbs from my highest weight and would like to lose another 20 or so. The lapband has changed my life and you guys have helped me immensely in learning how to live successfully with my band. I had no problems losing the weight (over and over and over) I just couldn't keep it off. I've gone from sitting on the couch to training for an adventure race (it's next weekend and is 15 miles of mountain biking and about 4 miles of trail running) and I've been asked to be in an infomercial for my surgeon about the health benefits of the band...bottom line; at 46 years old I'm healthier than I've been in years and it's due in large part to Lapbandtalk. ..you guys rock!! :clap2: Lisa
  24. Joanie, I do crave sweets but it's my own fault. I went into this thinking "I'll never have to diet again, this will be a lifestyle"....reality is that sweets and junk slide right down, so I continue to struggle with my love of chocolate. The difference after the band is that I feel I have my weight under control. I was a volume eater, so in addition to the sweets I would eat fast food junk and lots of it. I now can't stand french fries, or anything else that's fried. The taste from chewing to liquid is gross when there is grease all over the food....(my opinion of course) :-) Tracy, I have finally found a truly horrid before picture. It took a while to find since I shied away from cameras...so I'll post before and during pics soon.

Anyone with United Healthcare get LB?

Husband has UHC. His BMI was over 40 and he had one co-morbidity. He was approved and had surgery about 18 months ago. I know some UHC plans don't cover WLS, depends on the company you work for and the agreement they have with UHC.
