Nearly two years ago, I fell in a rock pool and broke my thigh and foot, as well as ripping out my knee. Although I did my rehab, I gained 40 pounds -- in part because I'm an emotional eater and in part because I spent 2 months laid up and 10 months on crutches. Although I binged sometimes, usually I ate a pretty healthy vegetarian diet -- although French fries are definitely vegetarian! Finally, although I weighed 148 when I fell and wore an 8-10, I weighed more than 200 pounds and was too heavy to do the exercise that was essential to my staying healthy. I have nine kids, six of them adopted. I am a writer for a living -- so I spent a great deal of time sitting. As my weight increased, exercise became excruciating.I am not looking for a quick fix, just a chance to see my kids grow up. The weight was not only hideously unattractive -- to the point at which I would avoid social gatherings so as not to be "seen," but it got in my way. I couldn't get into a bumper boat with my five-year-old. I rarely went outside these last two summers. I can't stay this way forever.....
