About Me
I was banded in Houston, Texas in February of 2009. By August of 2010, I had lost 66 pounds. I had to be unfilled in August 2010 due to pouch dilation. I had been having pain and acid reflux at night for about a month before my unfill. One day, I tried to eat and nothing would go down, not even liquids. I went to see my doctor the next day and did a barium swallow which showed that nothing was getting through. I think I was overeating and eating the wrong things. Also, a few days before my unfill, I found out that I had been accepted to vet school. I had been selected off the alternate list. This was wonderful news but I was extremely stressed since the school was in Oklahoma and it was only a week and a half before school started. I had to find a place to live, get my books, and get loans. I think this stress also contributed to my bad eating choices. Anyway, I promised myself I would not gain weight while my band was unfilled. I was told that I could get some fill put back in after about 2-3 weeks. I found a lap band doctor in Oklahoma that I really liked. In a little over a month of being unfilled, I gained 32 pounds back. I now have a good amount of restriction but I am still abusing the band. Vet school has made me stress more than I ever have and I have been eating to try to make it better. I've fallen back into old habits. I really want to get back on track this summer so that I have some better habits by the time I go back to school.
I'm currently in my second year of vet school at OSU. I'm loving it. I grew up in Houston, Texas. I love animals. I have a 1 year old mutt, Callie, a 14 year old calico cat, Jemima, and an 8 year old Goffin's cockatoo named Leo. If you want to know more about me, let me know. I would be more that happy to answer any questions or talk more about my experience.
