Really frustrated- hardly any restriction
716KellyG replied to Carriedaway78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A lot of people feel that way- it is called Bandster Hell and it is the point you are at until you find the sweet spot. Hang in there- it will get better. My doc is aggressive with fills- had 2 cc during surgery and 4 cc's at first fill at one month. -
What do you do for exercises?
716KellyG replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use my Wii Fit and am going to the gym--- 6 days a week I do cardio (treadmill mostly) 3 days I also do arms/legs on the machines.... 1 day I work out with my trainer--- Just started with trainer yesterday- can barely move today! LOL I am down 30 lbs since July 6th... -
banded 8/11..still so weak?
716KellyG replied to sweetkissez42061's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Really? Really you "dislike" the band already? That is insane! You just had SURGERY. Did you think you were going to be out playing dodge ball the day after surgery? Your body needs to heal. Some of these posts I read just blow my mind. Did you not ask about how long recovery would take when you talked to the doctor? Come on- rest and let your body heal. -
VERY discouraged....

slgrimes- let us know if you contacted your doctor about the vomiting. We are only being hard on you because we CARE about you and you being successful! -
VERY discouraged....
716KellyG replied to slgrimes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK First things First...you need to call ur doc and let him know that you are vomiting daily. 2nd thing, you can not expect to lose weight if you are not eating the correct foods.... you knew going into this surgery that this was a TOOL to help you lose weight... so now you need to get your head in the game. Protein FIRST- that should take up at least 3/4 of your day to do depending on your weight. Then veggies then GOOD Carbs---- fats should be on the very short list.... you should be eating eggs, chicken, fish, cottage cheese... yada, yada, yada.... sweets, breads, junk food should not be in your diet at this point.... I am following this Protein first rule, drinking my water (crystal lite), and walking daily and I am down 28 lbs in less than a month- like I said you knew what you were getting into when you got the band..it is only a TOOL.... you have to do the work for it to work.... I get extremly frustrated when I see people complaining about it not working--- there is no such thing...YOU are not working. Your diet should be appox 800-900 calories per day and you should TRACK every bite you put in your mouth...try Livestrong.com's daily plate--- great TOOL. I am being hard on you because the "hang in there it gets better" line is a crock of crap.... you have to be willing to do the work.... if you want this as bad as you wanted it xyz months ago that you had surgery you will get down and dirty and bust your butt to get the job done. YOU CAN DO IT!!! -
what is DDR? I have wii fit- almost broke it when it groaned when I stepped on it! LOL.... and then again when it cheerfully told me I was OBESE.....Really!

Banded 6/12/09 and losing patience!!! Anyone else..
716KellyG replied to suthern_gurl83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi guys- Water, Water, Water....make sure you are drinking your water... also Protein first... then veggies and then carbs (good carbs)...personally I am staying away from carbs except once per week. It is a lot of mind over matter. Plus I am walking 1.5 to 2 miles per day every day. This is a tool- I have issues with my back but walking doesn't seem to bother it too much... anyway- I hope I helped a little...I am down 28lbs since July 6th (day I started pre-op) and I have no fill yet. I just tell myself that I need to do this and get it done!! Good Luck to you all! -
any one banded 7/15/09
716KellyG replied to donnapa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded July 16th...first fill is Aug 25th....I am not starving....sometimes hungry but if I drink my water I am usually good. I am down 28 lbs as of today (that includes the 10 day pre-op I did). Thanks! -
Nancy- its me, Evie, I found 3 more docs in your area that do the surgery. I will call them while I am on the road today to see if any take Medicare and what you need to do to transfer over to them. Which doctor are you going to now? I will try to swing by chat during the day but I have a lot going on at work today....we will get you square! Evie

Anyone else NOT have to be on preop diet?
716KellyG replied to kimber1701's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't understand the doctors who do not require pre-op diets. It is for your own good, it shrinks the liver making it less fatty so when they move it around during surgery it is not tore. No doctor is "that good" that they can't have these issues. Plus if you are serious about losing weight and following the post op diet why wouldn't you do a low calorie diet before hand? I lost 12 lbs on my 10 day pre-op diet and it just helped to kick start the rest of my weight loss...I am now 4 weeks out and down 23 lbs. Good Luck! -
A little bit embarssaing
716KellyG replied to darksyd1809's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Sepf-pay needs advice from post-op insured bandsters
716KellyG replied to ncarreras's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was self pay and was required to have psych eval, nutritionist appt, and 2 week pre op diet...everything my doctor requires of all his patients......trust me the ins co are not making people jump hoops because it is the right thing to do--- it helps elimate the ones who are not dedicated to the process.... -
Are co-workers going to notice?
716KellyG replied to slufmuffin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just remember that one lie leads to another leads to another...remember Star Jones? She never outright lied but she didn't tell the truth either.... I have told everyone...keeps me accountable...but if you choose to keep it to yourself don't mislead people but saying you are just counting calories or hitting the gym hard...because someone may try to follow your lead and fail and be even more discouraged.... teach people about the tool you have and be proud of the choice you made to have a better life...but that is just my opinion....I would rather tell the truth once then figure out my string of lies...who did I tell what to...ya know? Good Luck!! Kels -
