I was never a skinny kid. Always referred to as "thick". But I didn't have an issue with that for the most part because I was really athletic most of my life. Throughout high school I was an athlete. I played volleyball, basketball, and softball. Athletics was my drug of choice. But because I had such a high level of activity I never was forced to learn to eat in proper portions of food types. When I turned 19 my father deemed it wasn't in my best interest to play sports at the local Jr. college. Instead he felt that if I had spare time I should get a part time job. Things with my father had never been easy. I met an older man later that year that lived halfway across the country. We fell in love and I moved away from my comfort zone and tried to strike out on my own at the age of 20. Turns out that man wasn't such a bad bet. We've been together for 15 years and married for 13 with three great kids. My weight has never been an issue for him, though he worries for my health as I have family medical conditions that are not good. Both my brother and mother died in their forties and my other brother has suffered two strokes before the age of 42. After devoting myself and my body to my family and my children throughout my twenties I decided it was past time to take the time to put myself first. It's been a struggle finding time to make this all happen. I work full time and travel for work as well. I love my job, but it can be very stressful as well. That, as well as trying to juggle a family life and maintain the spark with my husband can be daunting at times. But this is my time. And I think by taking that approach I will live longer, live happier, and live stronger. I'm excited about the journey ahead.
