Who is that in the mirror?

Oh my, it is me! I am on my way back to being someone I recognize! Hello Gorgeous!! (lol) I can't believe it, as my face is thinning it is revealing the old me! I am on my fourth day post-op and I am starting to feel half way normal. This is due to my DH's ”miracle broth”! He made a homemade chicken broth and beans, then he pureed them in the blender and ran them through a sieve (I am on a liquid diet), this is the heartiest thing I have eaten. I actually feel as though I am being nourished, he is so sweet I am lucky to have him. My pain is almost gone; hardly any stiffness in my legs and my tummy is feeling better. I was wondering what I had done to myself the first day after surgery. I thought I made a big mistake by doing this, but now I know I am doing the right thing and I am excited about my future. This will be a future I am a part of, not just a bystander! I feel as if I am taking back the control of my life and it feels wonderful!

    Frustration or Starvation

NO MILK NO SUGAR NO ALCOHOL NO CAFFINE NO CARBONATION EVER Two weeks prior to surgery I was on a liquid diet, I lost 10 % of my weight 24 lbs. I was excited for the loss, but I am still on a liquid diet for 1 week post op, no protein shakes. At least pre-op I had the protein to fill me up, but I am so hungry now 3 days post-op. I am weak, grumpy and not happy at all. This is my Dr.s menu, I wonder if he has ever tried to survive on this little. I know I am complaining, but I am so frustrated!:tongue_smilie:

    What should I do?

My doc said that if you can't take in fluids you will be dehydrated (needing to be hospitalized) in about 12 hours. Call your doc and let them know what is going on, only your doc can fix this.
  5. I, too, feel like roadkill from a Mack Truck!! I went to the ER today to see if all the pain in my legs was due to a blood clot, thank god it's not. They said, at ER, sometimes you are positioned in odd positions to get the cathader in during the surgery. Most likely my pain and soreness is due to a frog like position that they use. :scared2: Also I haven't been taking much of the narc. just because I don't like the way I feel on them, but the Dr. said to use as directed until this pain goes away. As for the chest pain, mine isn't that bad, my gas moves easily when I walk. I am so thankful for this forum. You are not alone in this, you can always cry on our shoulders! :crying: Good Luck~

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Yesterday I checked in the hospital at 5:30am and didn't get called back until 10:30am. I waited in the back until 12:00pm, but finally I was in surgery and wow I can't believe I did it! I was allowed to leave the hospital yesterday if I was feeling good so I ended up getting home at 8:30pm. What a long day! My hubby was grumpy through all the waiting so early in the day I sent him to my moms for a nap, he was alot happier when he came back. I felt really well yesterday, I was able to burp if I walked around so I did lots of walking. Since I am home now I had to wake myself up every three hours for a walk and drink and pee, dr.s orders. Today I am sore, like I have been in a car accident, everything hurts, achey pain. The soreness in my chest feels alot like plurasy and it is hard to remember to take deep breaths so my hubby keeps reminding me. But seriously this is not bad at all, I thought it would be alot worse. The meds help, i.e. my rambling, and walking makes me feel better. To all you who are about to go into surgery: Be Nice to the anesthesiologist he/she is very important and they can make things alot easier. Good Luck everyone!:rolleyes2:

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Hey Feb-sters~ OMG today I had my pre-op appt. on the phone. It was pretty simple, she took my meds. and their doses, she made sure I knew of someone that could help take care of me for the first week and she told me about what happens on the surgery day. I am so excited and nervous! One more visit with the surgeon and then I am off to surgery! I can't believe that I am doing this, I know I couldn't do it without reading all these posts. I thought I was the only one that is nervous about the LAP-BAND® and worried about if it will work for me! Thank you all for updates of what your doing getting ready for the big day. How is everybody doing with their liquid diet, if you need to follow one? I am having a problem with diarria it's aweful I drink a glass of water and boom I am back on the throne! Sorry about being so blunt, but I need to know if this is different that others so I can talk to my doctor if it's not. We all have great inner strength to do this, don't forget who you are doing it for and why, it will be totally worth it in the end. Good Luck To You
  12. I was given a huge list of vitamins and now on my pre-op diet I am taking them, but I have one problem. How am I going to swallow the powder out of the capsules if I can only drink sips?? It takes like 3-4 gulps of water to get them down now! Is any one else having the same problems?

    Swallowing vitamins

I'm having the band. My docs nutritionist told us to start taking vitamins like we are having gastric bypass because we won't be getting the nessicary vits. from the amount of food we are eating (or drinking). They also said that when we are on a regular diet again we will take like half as many. Isn't everyone required to take vits.? they told me my hair will "thin out" if I don't get the nutrition my body needs with these suppliments. Basically they scared me into submission, oh yea, and they don't sell the vits. Do you have to take any?
  14. I've been doing the pre-op for 6 days and it gets easier with time. I get alot of headaches, I dream about eating, but during the day I keep my self busy so I don't think about it. Good Luck and don't forget variety is the spice of life... drink alot of different things and you won't get bored with what you are drinking so fast.

    Liquid Diet

I have a couple ideas. First of all what is it about the shakes that grosses you out? If it is the wateriness I would suggest using less water, some of my shakes taste great with only 4 oz. of water and others I do 6 oz. that seems to be less watery and a little thicker. Or is it the flavor? I am adding sugar free espresso syrups to mine for a change, think not just chocolate but chocolate caramel. They still aren't wonderful, but it does improve them. Another idea is add a little extra sweetener, some think it takes better that way. And last but not least my favorite is to add 4 oz of hot water and 1 oz. of cold to Vanilla protein then I add a little nutmeg and a sprinkle of cinnimon.... Yum .... almost like a chai tea without the tea. Hope this helps, if not I am sure the nutritionist at your weight loss center will have some ideas.

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

I totally feel you on the headaches!!! I am so jealous about you being able to have milk, my doctor is anti-dairy, we can only mix our shakes with water! Yuck!

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Hey Foxy Peoples! I have been doing the liquid diet since January 26 th and my tummy isn't very happy! Is anyone else having tummy aches? Anyways, I started the protein shakes a month early instead of eating 2 meals and I lost weight pretty fast and I am starting to get the hang of flavoring these things. I have learned to add cinnimon, nutmeg, vanilla, and espresso syrups (sugar-free) to make the shakes bearable also adding an extra pack of sweetener helps. Oh yea, and you can make them as warm as coffee maker coffee and they are alot better. I keep dreaming of eating though, and when I wake up I am not sure if I did or not. I just don't want to screw this up. My loving support is going out there to all other Feb. Bandits this is not the "easy way" this is the healthy way and honey there isn't nothin' easy about it!

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

#1. Surgery date? Febuary 9th, 2010 (I can't believe it's almost here!) #2. State you live in? Washington #3. Doctor/Surgery Center? St. Francis, Dr. Oh and Dr. Hirai #4. Insurance or self pay? Medicare and Tricare #5. Age and height 34 years old and 5'6" #6. Current weight and goal weight? I have been dieting to try and lose my 10% but my starting weight was 247, now 230 and my goal is 145-150 #7. What was your deciding factor for having this surgery? I am sick of taking so many medications and I want to be able to keep up with my son who is 11. #8. Do you have the support of family and friends? My immediate family knows and they are hesitant but supportive, and my friends are supportive, but I haven't told some of my family because they are judgemental. #9. Concerns and questions? I am worried I won't lose the 10% before the 9th and my doctor does cancel surgeries if you aren't successful. I really hate that fact I have to take my meds in powder form instead of pills, it is so gross and the Vitamins aren't any better. I just don't know how I will be able to take them after surgery because I won't be able to swallow alot of Water fast... do you have any good ideas???

protien for clear liquids post op

Hi, I think everyone has different tastes, but I agree with an earlier reply that the ones from Biggest Loser are aweful. I have found that Nector brand "Strawberry Mousse" is really good and Stack brand "Chocolate" and they are even good mixed together. My doc told us to make sure we are taking in 30 g of Protein a shake(2-3 shakes a day)and to check the sugar in them and make sure they have less than 6 g per serving. Also you can make them with 4-6 oz. of water, that is easier to drink than a big watery shake. There are tons of flavors out there, so I found a store that lets me taste test them, if you are interested in getting samples from her then write me back and I will email you the website! Good Luck and remember your tastes will change after the surgery!
  20. Just today I noticed my skin breaking out in a rash from my watch, no matter which arm it is on. My mom suggested I might have a latex allergy. Is having a latex allergy a problem with the LAP-BAND® surgery? Has anyone out there had a latex allergy and still went ahead with the surgery???? Thanks!

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

:tongue_smilie:I am definately having issues with losing weight, but isn't that why we are getting banded. I think that if I could lose the weight on my own I wouldn't need this. Anyways I am eating a little more than I would like to be, I think it is nerves also. I feel like I am being deprived already, my mom says it is the carb addiction. That I am just afraid. So my plan is to have a Protein shake in the morning for Breakfast and try to eat less carbs throughout the day. I think we should keep in mind that in about 1 year we will be sporting a new and improved amount of energy and that will be well worth it (or that is what I am trying to convence myself).

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

I can't believe it, but I have a date January 14, 2010. Wow, now I really have to be good during the holidays so I can continue to lose weight and shrink my liver. All I have left is Pshyc. eval, nutrition course and a pre surgery test ( I don't know what that is). I have really been questioning this decision for a month I even went off my diet because I thought I didn't want to do it. I talked to friends and my therepist and they encouraged me, I want to like to have my picture taken again. I have been hiding behind this weight for too long, I am turning 34 next week and I don't want to wait any longer for my life to change, it's time I took control and changed it myself. I am scared, but very excited!:tongue2:
  23. I have been going back and forth with the idea of the Lap-band now for months, I understand it, but I am scared. I don't know if I want to give up carbs for good... What if I want a bear claw next year and I can't have it? I know it would be good for my health to loose this weight and not have back problems and pain management problems, but how do I know that this is the answer for me? I think I have been approved and tomarrow I will call to make sure, but I told all my family that I wasn't doing it, and now I might be changing my mind? Does everyone waffle this much? I guess I am scared!
  24. miss_seeann

Should I go through with it?

Can't you get it reversed if you are that uncomfortable? That is pretty scarey if you can't!
  25. :confused:I had my EGD on Friday, and what scares me is that I didn't go to sleep for the procedure. I don't know if that is bad, but they seemed like it doesn't happen very often. I don't know if they will even consider putting me fully under if I had issues with the EGD, so what is next? I meet the Dr. this Friday and get the results to my EGD, but a thousand things are going through my head, what if come surgery time I don't fall asleep and I can watch the whole thing???? Creepy! Has anyone else had this happen?
