  1. I was banded in Feb. 10, I lost almost 30 lbs. before and 20 lbs. after, all was going well until I plateaued for 3 months. I started throwing up all the time and was thinking that I'm just doing something wrong, also I lost alot of hair and got depressed. So I started to eat what my body seemed to want CALORIES! I still threw up, but if I ate chips I didn't, so now here I am 25 lbs. heavier and scared! I want to go back to the diet, but I am so afraid of being sick all the time, I need some words of encouragement. Has anyone else fallen so far off the wagon?

    Looking for support...

I am here with you. This is so hard, to say that I'm having trouble, I feel like I failed in some way. I go back to the dr. in two weeks and will see if there is an actual problem with the band or with just the way I am eating. My life has been pure CHAOS for about 7 months, so getting back into the groove of this is hard! I know medication can hurt your weight loss efforts, I gained most of my oringal weight on morphine! I figure if I take one day at a time, and just make better decisions for the day.... maybe I'll get back to where I was, maybe we both will. I totally understand where you are coming from!

    Post surgery depression

I had post-surgery depression and the doctor raised the amount of webuterin, also told me to crush it and that has helped it get into my body. I was afraid to ask for help for the depression at first, I'm just coming around to admitting I had a problem. This is a hard thing to go through, just like having a baby or starting a new job, you need to keep your support strong and CONSTANT updates to your doc, so you don't go a long time (like I did) without help. Good Luck!

    Carb withdrawals

I made different flavors of sugar free Jello and put them in those little dixie cups for 1 serving. I know it seems like forever without a decent meal, but this is the time you lose alot of your weight. Good luck, I fed my cravings and I am up from my best post op weight! Advice from someone who's been there, find something else to do when you want to snack or eat what you aren't suppose to, like crochet, knit, wash dishes, take a bath, and remember this isn't forever.
  5. Isn't stage 2 Mushies? I ate soup, but not the liquid part, just the chunks because they are really soft. Applesauce, Oatmeal with babyfood fruits in it (it is actually pretty good), if my soup has less liquid I would blend it all up, hope this helps. My doc says no dairy so I had to stay away from it, but yougart is pretty popular and so is cottage cheese.

    Tighness in chest

First I want to say: if you are really worried about it and it disrupts your breathing go see the doctor immediately. But... I feel the tightness in my chest too. At first I thought it was heartburn, but when my doctor fills and unfills and fills at the office I FEEL IT WORSE! They put me back on some heartburn meds. for one month and then we will try to go back off, but I don't think this is heartburn. I think I am just more aware of my body, maybe you are too?

    Protein suggestions

My hubby realized that I was getting sick of the protein shakes and made me a protein soup. Just alot of beans and veggies with a little chicken stock or veggie stock (maybe a ham piece for flavor) and then blended it all into a thin soup with no chunks. I loved that soup... it was a great break from the shakes.

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

I totally feel you on the hair loss, I'm drinking protein shakes 30 grams a shake 3 meals a day and I still lost hair. Totally not attractive, but this is just a bump in the road and they say by 1 year your hair will be back to normal. Don't get too discouraged, I've been wearing hats. Also new haircuts with layers add more volume to your hair so it looks like more than it is. As for the protein there is a whole bunch of ways to get it in, add unflavored protein powder to your drinks. Unjury has a chicken soup flavored protein. My favorite is cookies and cream by Oh Yeah! You just have to keep trying them to find one that is yummy to you, vitalady.com has samples for sale if you don't want to buy a whole tub, just want a taste! Good luck and keep in touch about the hair issue... it happens to alot of us!

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Hi everyone, it's been a long time since I've checked in. I am so excited for everyone... good job! I'm plataued badly at 204 I think it's because I'm inconsitant. Most of the time I eat my 2 oz. per meal, but every once in a while I sneak in a snack and I am totally craving all sorts of food when I follow the instructions to a T: 3- 2oz meals a day mostly protein a little veggie, no dairy, 3 30 g protein shakes and lots of water. This diet is totally leaving me lacking...:smile2:. I am so hungry. Sometimes I eat too fast and I have to P.B. YUCK, but it's become a problem with my teeth. The dentist says the acid from my stomach is wearing off the enamel of my teeth! So be aware, you may need to see a dentist if you are p.b.ing once a week or more. What kind of diet are you all on? Is it as scaled back as mine? Are you allowed fruits at least once a day? I'm only allowed 2 times a week as part of my 2 oz. meal. I need to find out if there is a different way of approaching this.. more forfilling. Thanks for your help!:bolt:

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Welcome to the club!! I have been a member for about 3 weeks. I think the stomach swells after you PB so it is really hard to eat anything for a couple of days without getting the same result! Does yours hurt like the DICKENS??? Mine hurts when I am PBing. I think this whole issue has been the cause of me not loosing any weight lately, I can't seem to get enough good calories in when it hurts to eat anything. I hope you get over yours soon!:smile2: It sucks!
  12. The last couple days I have been trying my hardest to be happy and upbeat, but it seems impossible to shake the frustration I am feeling. I am losing 3 lbs. a week, so I know that isn't it. I am on anti-depressants, but the doc who is in charge of those said it is too early in this change to tell if I need to change doses or something. I was wondering if I am in this boat alone, or are you feeling similar???

    Feeling Moody

Here is a theory from my Dr. Women store estrogen in there fat, so when we lose weight that estrogen starts to effect our body and moods until we are able to dispose of it. Basically we are doing a big DETOX right now and all that built up chemicals are going to run their course through our bodies. So we all may go through mood swings, but it might not all be from losing our dear friend (food). This information helped me realize that I am not just becoming untolorable, but I am just having hormonal mood swings. Hope this helps you all too!

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Hi everybody! I am now down 40 lbs. and that is so great since my surgery was Feb. 9, but now I am have serious chocolate cravings. All of a sudden I get moody (almost PMS like) then the chocolate cravings come in. I have eaten chocolate during these cravings and I feel out of control. I don't want to stop losing, but I feel I may be resorting to old habits. I am scared I am going to fail. I keep telling myself that today I will be good, no sweets or anything on the naughty list, :blush:but out of nowhere I find myself eating things I shouldn't. My goal is one day at a time, try to go back and eat like the dr. told me. Proteins first, then veggies and fruits, then carbs last. I don't want to gain back weight and it looks like from the postings that I'm not the only one! People keep saying how strong willed I am not to go off track, but I am not. Maybe I am having a bad week, since I am starting more regular food maybe I am just trying all the things I've been missing. I hope I can move forward through this, Thank You all for your support!

    Feeling Moody

We definately have a lack of sunshine, here in Washington. That could be it. Thank you for the ideas, I am going to go walk as we speak. Thanks for all the support!

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

First Fill Today! I had my first fill this morning! At first the Dr. put in too much and then asked me to go drink three glasses of water in the waiting room. I got 2 sips down and the 3rd one felt like a lump in my chest (ouuchhh). He readjusted it a couple of minutes later and I could actually feel the water drain from the pouch. Now I have a liquid diet for 2 days then I am on soft foods! I am so excited, I can't wait to EAT something. My weight has come off really quickly so I expect it will slow down alot once I get eating again. I have found that the weight will come off quick, then it slows down for a while. So if you are worried that you are not losing quick enough, hang tough, you will be soon! Much <3, miss_seeann:thumbup:

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

I am so JEALOUS, it sounds like everyone else is able to eat already! I am going to be 4 weeks post-op on Monday and then I can move to mushies! I am so hungry, I was so good on this diet, until now, but I feel like I want to cheat. I am having alot of low blood pressure readings (96/53) and that makes me feel sluggish. Also I think my blood sugar is low, I'm depressed sometimes and dizzy! So I tried to add a little applesauce (so yes I did cheat) and that helped, and some V8 juice made me feel alot better. :smile2: I am worried about the PB's with adding mushies, is there any mushies that would be good to stay away from? (my Dr. says no dairy, no sugar, and no caffiene EVER):smile2: Thanks to you all for being here to lean on, this really is a life changing experience and sometimes that scares me. Good luck and Great health to you all!

    a little DiScourAgeD

It seems everyones Dr. gives them a different post-op diet and that may be why everyone loses differently. My Dr. is a strict "nothing but shakes and clear liquids and broth for 6 weeks" and honey I can't help but lose weight when that is all I can eat! Also others are right, the pre-op diet " nothing but shakes and clear liquids for 2 weeks and before that no carbs, no dairy and 60 grams of protein shakes" made me lose most of what I lost! Don't compare yourself with others because all of our bodies are different, just wait it will come off (and maybe you won't have as much saggy skin because you are losing slower it gives your body time to adjust). Good Luck!

    Sick of protein shakes!

I'm not suppose to have soft foods yet, but my dh was worried about me not getting enough protein, so he made me homemade broth with lots of veggies and a can of beans. He pureed the whole thing and ran it through a sieve so I don't get any chunks. Beans have tons of protein. It is wonderful to have another option, not just sickly sweet shakes. You should probably ask your doctor if this would be ok before you do it. Good luck.
  20. I am so sorry that this happened to your friend, that should of never happened. I do believe in Karma though, and that Dr. is sure racking up the wrong kind! Good Luck and Good Health to your friend!

    Special K Protien Shakes

Hey, I also have drank the special k shakes and I agree they do taste good!! My dr. told us that we needed 30 grams of protein per meal and three meals a day. Those shakes have 10 grams per shake. You should refer to the preferences of your dr. , everyone is different. If I were to use the Special K shakes I would need 9 of them a day and the calories would be off the chart! But I do love the taste so I might have one once and a while for a snack. I suggest trying a large variety of shakes, in samples lots of companies sale samples and that is how I found one that didn't upset my stomach and that I actually liked! Good Luck!

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Now 10 days post-op and I feel pretty normal. My incisions hurt if I twist my body the wrong way, and I am frustrated that I can't pick up my dog for six weeks. All in all I am feeling like myself again, but with that comes the food cravings! I am jonesing for popcorn (my go to snack of choice), I keep thinking that it would go down now just fine. My swelling of the band area is gone and I have pretty much no resriction, it is so hard to follow these guidelines for this long. Only 20 more days before I can eat really soft foods, still it seems like a long time. Good Luck to You All and I am glad to hear that most of us are working through this with only little problems. Hooray for us, we are transforming our lives!:w00t:
  23. I thought taking in Protein shakes I was definately going to have the runs. My first 5 shakes proved my worst fear, but then I ordered some samples of Bariatric Advantage and wah-lah no more sick belly. I like the banana and strawberry. I think it just takes trying many different ones and see what works for you! Good Luck!

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

My orginal date was in January, but due to my doc's back surgery it was moved to this month. I know it stinks to have it moved, but just think of how much better of a mood your doc will be in considering he is not in pain anymore. That has to make it a little less stinky! Sorry about your moves!

Who is that in the mirror?

Oh my, it is me! I am on my way back to being someone I recognize! Hello Gorgeous!! (lol) I can't believe it, as my face is thinning it is revealing the old me! I am on my fourth day post-op and I am starting to feel half way normal. This is due to my DH's ”miracle broth”! He made a homemade chicken broth and beans, then he pureed them in the blender and ran them through a sieve (I am on a liquid diet), this is the heartiest thing I have eaten. I actually feel as though I am being nourished, he is so sweet I am lucky to have him. My pain is almost gone; hardly any stiffness in my legs and my tummy is feeling better. I was wondering what I had done to myself the first day after surgery. I thought I made a big mistake by doing this, but now I know I am doing the right thing and I am excited about my future. This will be a future I am a part of, not just a bystander! I feel as if I am taking back the control of my life and it feels wonderful! :frown:
